WHY WE STILL LOVE THE SEIKO SKX
Переглядів 5 тис.Рік тому
8 year review and a look at why we still love the seiko skx.
Break in was brutal, now can wear them for 12 hours straight with no problem. Have two other pairs of moc toe Red Wings. For when I am getting down and dirty on the property or the car I am building they are my first choice of the three. If you get the chance go to the Red Wing store in Red Wing Minnesota, it is really fun.
@@tommahnke that’d be awesome I gotta get down to Minnesota
I had the same problem that a lot of people had with the insole. It made the toe box way too snug. I seen a tip online, and removed the foam on the bottom on the insole, and just used the leather. & it made a world of a difference.
@@murray42076 oh nice that’s a good tip, thanks!
Just got mine in today. Been wanting them for a minute, finally pulled the trigger. They're better looking in person. Gorgeous boot. Can't wait to rock these this weekend. I bought these for casual use. I use thorogood at work as a bricklayer. I wouldn't want to get mortar on these baby's. They're too clean.
@@robmartinez7782 cheers bro 🍻
I also took the insoles out.
@@austinjohnson3977 yeah it sucks they don’t really work
They age extremely well! Glad I got them over the 875s 🙌 So when did you first condition them? 1:19 I'm thinking of using saddle soap + neetsfoot oil and hopefully it retains the natural color.
@@BEASTxMODE I still haven’t conditioned them, I just wipe Them down with a baby wipe, but I actually think that does condition them in a way, because there’s like aloe Vera and stuff in there. It’s weird but it’s always worked for me, all my boots just get brushed off and baby wiped down after I wear them. I got freaked out years ago when I conditioned my round toe copper rough and tough and they just turned a flat brown, I was like😤
@@Watchesnwardrobe I know, I saw how the r&t round toes looked unrecognizable, that's why I thought I'd ask. Thanks for the advice! 👊
Bought a pair 6 weeks ago. Thjey are starting to break in and they are getting comfortable. I wear them every day. I took the insole out. I agree, the toebox is less comfortable with the insole. It's an awesome boot!
@@tccycling heck yeah! 🫡
I still have mine from 1997, stumbled across it when looking for something else! To be honest, I'd forgotten about it! I gave it the seiko shake, and off it went! I have sent it to seiko service centre and am looking forward to wearing it out of nostalgia?
@@Mike-kc8rl that’s so cool
My 1907's were tough to break in. The insole made my pinky toes rub awkwardly on the sides. Once I took them out, the shoe fit much better and became comfortable. Four years in, the patina is much darker, but they look great. I love them.
Yeah I can’t wear the insole either, it’s crazy snug 😩
Love it... just bought my first SKX007K2... never worn, brand new. Absolutely love it, just has thst X-factor which new watches with specs seem to lack.
@@kobuslouw7768 awesome!
Glad to see someone brave enough to denounce waxed canvas 😆
@@Ovenman940 hahaahah! The brave…the few 😂
I've been wearing 1907 for about half a year now. They were so painful at first, and that made my heels and ankles bleeding. Kept trying with thick wool socks and some Bandaids, I now feel very comfortable. It was worth being patient and tenacious to achieve this great fitting.
@@tsuyoshinyc2 wow that’s crazy with the heels and ankles bleeding, but glad u made it through
Beautiful boots. Really helpful to see the boots with the outfit. It looks like they made the leather midsole slimmer in their current version. I don't appreciate that as I like your one better. I've been eyeing the ranch boot but I'm not so sure anymore.
@@anonsurf6640 yeah I agree idk why they changed it. I have the ranch boots got um for super cheap they were renewed they are pretty nice boots
I have a similar build. What white T do you wear. I can’t seem to find one that works for me. Cheers

Hey man can you share a link to where you bought that strap from?
Love them but unfortunately they don't make them in EE width so it has to be iron rangers for me.
I have IR's in Copper Rough & Tough, and I have not had any of the pain and agony people talk about, I have only had mine a little over a month and they aren't completely broken in yet, but I also don't work a job where I am on my feet a whole lot, I work security and mostly sit at my desk, but I love the way they feel on my feet. When I bought my shoes I got the Iron Rangers, Classic Chelsea and Moc Toes and I thought the Moc Toes would be my most worn shoe but they have actually been my least worn and I thought I would only wear the IR's to look nice or something but they have quickly become my daily drivers. only the first week and a half I had to switch shoes to drive home in. I love them and want the black ones like you also have.
I wear the Grandfather of the SKX, the 7548 Quartz JDM on the Z199 bracelet. No muss, no fuss.
@@jeffwenger5610 oh that’s a super cool watch
Brother I got mine about three months ago. Had been looking around on what treatment to do. Saw some where they polish the leather up and I was concerned because the leather on these was already darkening day by day. And I gave it a little time and now they are darker. You are absolutely right, just a little clean wipe behind the ears and these just go golden. Awesome to see your decade old fellows (hope I can dream that up). Great voiceover, loved the rhythm. Cheers
@@shamshermann so cool! Appreciate you brother!
cant wait to see how my 1907's Patinas would look like in a few months or years.. thanks for the heads up on not putting leather conditioning on the shoes
@@stbalabis no problem and good luck 🫡
Appreciate the review!
@@brad6105 awesome! Thx for checking it out 🫡
Yeah, the waxed jacket overtime looks like something you found in some back alley dumpster. Fades in the worst possible way.
😂😂😂
If red wing would put a wedge sole on those bad boys with the old construction they’d sell like crazy
is a vintage NOS SKX worth more thanks 1997 march? I love the title of this video 🤝
Thanks! I’m not sure but I’d imagine it is
@@Watchesnwardrobe my 97 skx007k1
@Watchesnwardrobe thanks brother I have a 97skx 007k1 ,and 94 7002-7000 both NOS condition and a skx009j brand new with tags. Basically I first saw the design for the SKX and fell in love. favorite watches in my collection.
sashiko type 2 jackets are so sick
Love em
Hi, does the width size changes shoes tip round size?
I believe so
Wish the sizing on this jacket was better. If u have any size or muscle to ya at all , this isn’t for you. Sleeves are short. Back and shoulders super tight. Looks great tho !
Yeah you’re right, I sometimes have to get xxl in rgt tops so they fit me, then the proportions are all wrong.
Got my 1907’s about 4 months ago. They’re excellent. I made a mistake in conditioning them by thinking that it will break them easier… but it didn’t. The copper look got a bit darker. Other than that, boots look cool. I clean the soles with Magic Eraser, too. Thanks.

When I started my apprenticeship with the sheet metal workers I bought a pair of these as work boots still have them today I retired them after 5 years took.wuite.and ass whooping you go by legit "work boots" now and they last a year 2 tops you buy these which technically are just fashion boots and spend the extra money and they last no matter what you do to.them
Orange raven she's a beauty
Cool! I have the RgT Tanker Jacket in Camel Canvas which looks really similar. Got some light fading on it but its still new, just from last fall. How do you like the ISC work shirt? Thinking about getting it but i hear its really stiff?
Thanks! Yeah I love the rgt work shirt, it is stiff at first but not crazy and softens up after a few wears.
how many times did you resole?
None yet, but I need to now.
is there a "normal" Red Wing Leather insole beneath the removable insole? all the best///Troutbumandsam
No, but if feels fine
I might be too late for your question but... normal as in you're standing on a thick chunk of firm leather? Yes indeed. The outsole being soft does wonders for the overall comfort though.

Bought a medium but I'm pretty skinny, 6'3 u think I'm good?
Dang, maaaaybe, let me know how it fits u, I’d be curious to know
what size do you wear?
XL
did it shrink after you washed it?
Not very much, but I did wash it cold and air dry it.
i want a pair not sure between these or the copper rough and tough
I had the same dilemma, if I had to do it again I’d go copper just because the leather is more interesting.
Great review. I’m getting mine tomorrow 🥾
Thanks! Nice that’s gonna be awesome 👏
I’m looking to buy a pair. I fit a size 10.5 sneaker, I keep hearing a size 9 red wing boot fits like a size 10.5-11
I’m only a half size down in these
Finally found a review of this specific boot. Thank you!! Also you have a very chill and relaxing style of narration. Very cool! 👌
Thanks so much! 👊
May i know your ONI Denim model please?
Yeah it’s the 19 ounce secret denim 👏
Mine stink after 6-7 months. Lol The outter leather has a distinct smell. Not sure if it’s just me. But my danners don’t do that. Maybe I need better socks (carthartt are my everyday) or clean them better. But I clean them every week. Properly.
Hmmm that’s interesting, maybe the leathers rotten or something 😁
Do these Sashiko cruiser jackets ever come in different colors besides the black and the blue?
No, not in the sashiko fabric, I’ve seen them in different colors in different fabric though, like canvas, denim and corduroy.
@@Watchesnwardrobe Thanks for responding. I ask because my closet’s been black and blue for decades and now I’m looking for other colors like grays and browns and tans.

If you want these boots to fit, find a local Red Wing shop or a shoe store with a Brannock device to properly measure your foot. I go a half size down with both Red Wing and Wolverine 1000 Mile. I wear a mens 10 US in almost every sneaker made. I was surprised when I found out that my Brannock was a 9 because I assumed I was a 10 on everything shoe related. That is not the case with boots. I ended up getting my IRs in 8.5 and they fit well. My right foot is slightly larger than my left, it was like a 9.2 on the Brannock but the 8.5s work. I recommend wearing them slightly loose on the lace up until the leather becomes more malleable.
I have a pair of hawthorne's for 18 years and 2 resoles further...through the years I've been collecting the best models in a variety of colors . My last purchase are the 9060 beckman flatbox and the 4331 ranger riders room.I really love them all.The rangers are the most sturdiest.
Got an 007 and an 009. I’m old. I remember when they were sub $200 at the mall. Love the video. But. True detective Rust is wearing a Lorus quartz homes. I wish it was an SKX.
Oh is he ?! Dang the internet lied to me 😂
Sorry brotha
Slight discomfort initially is often the price for long term comfort and durability.
Yup💯
