If you want a production shot in or near Mexico you need Cartel approval, especially if it _involves_ a cartel in the story... This movie was NEVER gonna get that.

The problem is not that the director is French, it is that they want to romanticize the narco, a narco for changing his sex will not pay for his crimes, that is an insult to all those killed in Mexico by the narco, a week ago 2 children died and their father because they wanted to steal their car, and the ones who do that are the narcos with long guns, The mother was barely able to flee from them, although too late, and the authority blamed the tinted windows of the family's truck, when the tinted windows came from the car dealership.

The geopolitical context currently surrounding the relationship between Mexico and the United States offers much for Mexicans to consider regarding this film and its potential political agenda. One thing that the allied nations of France and the United States share is a history of neocolonialist and imperialist tendencies, underpinned by Eurocentric ideas rooted in white supremacist ideologies. These ideologies place the West as superior to the Global South, maintaining a paternalistic vision and dominance over the latter. This mindset is reflected in the creation of this film, which is one of the reasons many Mexicans are upset. For example, the film addresses a serious issue in a biased manner, failing to acknowledge that the problem isn't solely Mexico’s; it's also the responsibility of other countries. A critical detail, such as the fact that over 70% of the weapons fueling violence in Mexico originate from the United States, is glaringly omitted. Mexico’s image has been tarnished by the media for decades, particularly by Hollywood, which has perpetuated an anti-Mexican narrative and contributed to a negative portrayal of the country and its people. Many Hollywood films, for instance, have used sepia-yellow filters to make Mexico appear backward, dirty, inferior, and underdeveloped. Nearly all films focusing on Mexico dwell on its negative aspects, and this movie is no different. The lack of nuance in its portrayal of Mexico contributes to an anti-Mexican discourse driven by a Eurocentric, white supremacist perspective. It's troubling that in a world where white Western countries dominate, these very nations are the ones applauding and awarding this film, further perpetuating the negative stereotypes of Mexico. This movie is deeply offensive and insulting to Mexico. This criticism stems from various aspects, including the selection and casting choices. In an interview, the casting director was asked why, if the movie is set in Mexico and revolves around the country, there was no Mexican cast. She responded by saying they traveled to Mexico but couldn't find any talented actors for the film. Considering that Mexico has millions of residents, claiming they couldn't find suitable actors is not only highly discriminatory but also more troubling when you think about the fact that the film profits from portraying the pain and suffering of Mexico.

The worse Spanish I have heard so far, as a Mexican, we don't talk like that at all. That's not the way we talk, the dialogues seem to be translated by Google translate... Horrible...

Films not that bad and the backlash is cos it’s so ‘woke’… but at the same time that’s also a reason it’s getting so many awards 😅 76% is accurate and doesn’t deserve the accolades. From penis to vagina was a wild line.

𝖘𝖎𝖘𝖚 manifests itself when all hope is lost

I kind of wonder if all the people that liked the movie a lot haven't seen the previous Alien movies before and so they didn't notice all the references they jammed into the movie. The first half felt like a generic scavenger movie and the second half felt like they jammed all the Alien movies into it. In my opinion the movie is carried by the cinematography, the setting, the practical effects, and the main android who hard carries the mostly forgettable cast.

HEY! Popes Exorcist was a really fun movie and Russel Crowe was great in it. I mean how can you not enjoy Russel Crowe fighting demons with an italian accent?!

Great review man, I have not yet gotten the chance to review kraven the hunter yet but I've seen it for myself and I can say that I'd definitely agree with you on this one, this film was bloody awful and not worth the long wait! I'm not surprised that it's from the same writers as transformers: the last Knight! Thank god the SSU is over now, about bloody time! Good review man, I thought Moana 2 was okay personally, like it was a fun enough little adventure and I didn't think the story and the songs were all that bad, but I can see where you and others are coming from, it's definitely a step down from the first film alright, but I still thought it was okay for what it was. I haven't put up a review for the film yet, but I'd recommend maybe keeping a lookout in case I do get a review up!

Back from my vacation and here to catch up on what have I missed. How are you doing today and how your day? Movie was actually pretty good and I enjoyed most of it. I am not much of a fan of musical unless I litterly go to one. Every 10 minutes of dialogue there are singing and I was like again. Maybe it just me for not going to musical much anymore but the money was pretty good. I just did not expect to be a ton of singing.

Speaks volumes that some teenager dreamt this up and every adult is eating it up.

absolutely stupid and zero interest

Great review man, I went to see wicked for myself the weekend of its release and I have to say it's definitely the biggest surprise of the year for me. I also didn't think I'd like it all that much from the marketing, but the actual film itself was fantastic, with great cinematography, sound, songs, production, visuals, characters, acting and the way they were able to tell the first half of the story as a whole film, was done brilliantly and I felt it justified the long runtime! And I know it ends on a cliffhanger, but I feel the way they end it is satisfying enough, so I am definitely looking forward to part two next year!!! Now I am working on my review at the moment, but it's not ready yet, so you'll just have to be patient and stay tuned for it!!!!

I Did Watch The Film on The Day of It’s Release On November 8th 2024 and I (Personally) Think Falls into the Category of other movies such as ‘Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi’ (1983) And ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ (2012) with them Being Great in it’s Own Right but Not as Great as the First 2 Films That Came Before it. So with it being the same thing With ‘Paddington In Peru’ (2024). And Remember The Time we’re Sam Raimi at one point said that he Didin’t Like ‘Spider-Man 3’ (2007) and wanted to improve it with The planned 4th instalment but unlike Paul King’s franchise, This one Got cancelled due to Creative differences between him and Sony. So (on a Personal Level) I Think that This franchise is in its positive place despite the movie’s issues. Overall Good Review.

I really enjoyed Paddington in Peru, it has a lot of excellence. The cast is wonderful, the visuals are stunning, there are some laughs and it's overall very charming. Did I laugh as much as I did with the other Paddington films? No, but I DID laugh. Does Antonio Banderas make as strong a villain as Hugh Grant? No, but he was clearly having a lot of fun with the role(s). Did I tear up at the end? Of course I did. This is the weakest of the Paddington films, BUT it's still an excellent film. I did roll my eyes twice, though: 1) Chekov's spider. The moment the image of that spider appeared ("Actual size?!") I knew where that was going and the actual bit with the spider went on for too long. 2) Odd for a film set in Peru not to have one Peruvian character or even actor. Not even the nuns. I will happily see Paddington in Peru again, and return to London for Paddington 4. Was having a discussion at work about the "best films ever" as you do. When I said I counted Paddington 2 as one of the best, my colleagues laughed at me. I said "Do you know anyone who didn't enjoy Paddington 2?" and after a moment's thought the response was "No". These films are great. Unlike most franchises which are stale and boring by #3, I look forward to more.

You hit the nail on the head - RS seems to have been going down a path of quantity over quality, particularly wrt. details and quality outside the visuals.

i found this on those online movie thingies i saw it and it was outta sync so i said to myself meh when this thing comes to blueray or whatever i will download and watch it and forget it like i do with these modern movies

Fair review man, me personally I enjoyed Paddington in Peru, though so I will say it's easily the weakest of the trilogy for me. I haven't reviewed it yet but I'm planning to eventually so do stay tuned for it!

LUCIUS BEING MAXIMUS' SON...IN THE FIRST MOVIE LUCILLA AND MAX SHARE THAT THEIR KIDS ARE NEARLY 8 YEARS OLD RESPECTIVELY. THAT MEANS THAT BOTH WOMEN WERE PREGNANT ROUGHLY AROUND THE SAME TIME. THAT WOULD MEAN MAX WAS CHEATING ON HIS WIFE OR CHEATING ON LUCILLA. FURTHERMORE, THE FIRST MOVIE LETS US KNOW THEY KNEW EACH OTHER AS TEENS OR KIDS AND HAD STOPPED SEEING EACH OTHER SINCE THOSE DAYS. IF LUCILLA HAD GOTTEN PREGNANT IN HER TEENS THE KID WOULD BE MUCH OLDER THAN MAXIMUS CHILD.

I was an extra in the scene where Denzel's Macrinus speaks in the Senate about taking power (I'm standing behind him). Emperor Caracalla had a longer speech that revelaed more about his motivations and backstory. I guess an extended might contain all the removed footage and there will be new reviews. Grateful to have been part of G2 🙂
