    There is an essential problem. I am speaking from personal experience. If the property manager is a Superhost, AirBnb requires that a fresh listing is set up under the Superhost's account and the Host's listing will no longer be active. (As there cannot be two listings for the same property.) They won't allow the Superhost to become a co-host on the Host's listing, as that would mean giving the listing an undeserved Superhost status. If the Host already has a number of high ranking reviews on their original listing, they are understandably reluctant to relinquish it. So this arrangement only works for Superhosts where the Host is new to the market, and willing to allow their listing to be entirely controlled by the Superhost.

    At the end of about three months of consistent usage thinking I was helping people like recover from the loss brought on by Covid and they were helping me, by having a place to stay,because I had used the display total cost toggle every time, I never really bothered to check the receipt that would always follow after you checked, many times I didn’t even sleep in the bed, because I’d work all night or fell asleep listening to sound waves,but one day I just happen glance and realized that the had tacked on charges that exceeded the cost of the room, they did this at every place, I think in total I must have stayed in 9-11 places, not high end just basics 89.00 a night, like that sometimes higher, when I tallied up what total when I clicked reserve,it was a little under two thousand,but when I tallied the final receipts, mind you some were hotels that charged they’re own cleaning fee, it totaled over3700 hundred dollars,and on the receipts for the hotel they inflated taxes and came up some bogus fee titles that even they’re reps couldn’t explain..If ever there is a mass civil suit, and idobelieve it will come one day, because I want every over paid bogus charge returned,I will admit the majority of the hosts are very nice,airbnb customer service sucks to high heavens, their policies are equally as bad as iTunes billing practice, and PayPal who just gives your money like pay people whom you’ve closed accounts with years ago,and you have zero dollars yet they pay them and charge your bank account,these companies make the Credit bureaus look like the poster child fairness and accuracy…I doubt if airbnb is going to let my two posts stay.

    It’s 2024 and in the summer of 23 I had to use airbnb for the first time basically from June through September I’d stay in an airbnb 2-3 nights, and yes the toggle was there and when I used and it gave me the total price with taxes and service fees, it was strange how for the same amount of days those two fees alone varied so vastly that I decided to cancel, but guess what, they’d already charged my card and they don’t issue refunds, and what’s even more surprising is that they leave it up to the host to decide if you get your money back, now remember this is all within minutes,there was one place in Newark nj, that had a picture of a quaint little cottage, kind of like a carriage house,not really continuing the look on the inside , pictures were dark,bad angles,but as photographer, I chalked it up to amateur photography,about three pics of the inside, but nearly a dozen of surrounding attraction,arenas, bars, park, intl rail and bus systems etc so I booked while at said rail station and even though it was basically walking distance, it was clouding up fast so I jumped in a cab and within minutes we were in what looked like a 70’s movie with hookers, dealers running up to cars,and people standing around in groups,seemingly with nothing to do,but dressed in suit and tie and pulling luggage with electronics and camera gear,not to mention an envelope with a cash gratuity, it was just after turning the corner that he stopped and said I’ll let you out here and pointed to a barely standing 3 unit building, covered in graffiti,easily seen because there were empty trash ridden lots on both sides of the building and garbage all over the sidewalk,broken steps,there was no way I was staying there, so I went back to the station because now it had started to pour, and I got someone named Curtis who had the ability to toss sarcasm far better than skills of being helpful, and when I described what I saw as opposed to what was advertised, his response ‘ am I suppose to know everything about every place listed,I said well you could help me find other accommodations, by this time it was 7pm and he begrudgingly said,lemme scheck in broken English, and I’ll call back,it was 10:20 when he did call back and simply said, nothing I can do the host claims that by me not coming there she lost money so she was keeping my 287.00 for two nights, that didn’t include the surprise fees that Airbnb added the next day,and all nearby hotels were booked, so I slept in the terminal, so that I could photograph this place and the area, and forward it to airbnb,another English challenged person contacted me and wanted to hear the story , I gave to her and sent the photo’s,in a very polite chzec accent said I’ve decided to go with the host because you did not come,I couldn’t believe that the deception of the property,that they chose to advertise, meant nothing, it was then I started reading past reviews ( please always read them) this place had arguments, fights with guest, name calling, screaming from the steps as guests were asked to leave making them now noticeable to those who may saw them as easy prey.I tried for months to argue my case but absolutely nothing.

    This change benefits property managers who aren’t super hosts. Some of their properties can still stand out despite them being bad hosts overall.

    I have one apartment, and it has both badges - I honestly have no clue when I was awarded the "guest favorite" badge as they did not communicate that to me, as much as they seem to value the superhost status in their messaging. Anyway, I do not see those badges as an incentive to lower my prices ! On the contrary, and I really wonder what would make you say that...

    I 100% agree that it’s gamification. Their strategies promote certain behaviour - ie competition among hosts and delivering more value to guests.

    Very good explanation. I would however add that people can still search by “Superhost” and the Superhost badge does come up when you search listings. And properties belonging to Superhosts are also promoted via email and other methods

      Months ago Airbnb indicated that it was only available to certain hosts with listings in the US or Canada who opted in to Early Access, but now it appears to be rolling out to a larger cohort as I know hosts in the US that are not enrolled in Early Access and are seeing it as an option in their account.

    We are listed on both Airbnb and VRBO, we have exactly the same fabulous listing in both platforms. We have gotten over only a handful of bookings on VRBO vs. over 100 on Airbnb. I would never subscribe to listing only on one platform. We’re now doing more and more direct bookings and this will be our main focus going forward.

    When I do power-ups it doesn't matter how many I use, it tells me it's not going to change my position much or sometimes at all. Should I do it anyway in those cases? Does it still help as other properties book, etc?

    Cleaning fees are fine. No one has a problem with that. Where people problem comes when the host ask you to do the cleaning plus add a cleaning fee
