This is so true. The right breathing technique has helped me a lot. People laugh when I suggest mastering footwork and breathing to improve tennis. Good work keep it up 👍
Thanks for your comment.
Most fitness trainer don’t play tennis but they train tennis players. Go figure. They know better because they are fitness trainer. That’s their logic.
extremely risky and error prone forehand which likely will catch him either late or early most of the time against top 30 or even higher ranked players who know how to extract an error; i had to fix this as it's very easy to just pull with the opposite shoulder to get more power; the key (at least on clay where i play 90% of the time) is stability and building the point, not hammering shots, that's too 90s;
He didn't make a ton of errors or caught it late against Fils or Van de Zandschulp who hit harder than your average top 30 player...
really intersting keep it up
I love his forehand. Great technique.
😂
I always make the mistake of trying to put topspin on these high balls. At best, the ball has no drive and no court penetration and my opponent gets a look at a passing shot. At worst, i mis hit the ball and/or it goes too high over the net and out (since im usually close to the net anyways). I've been working on doing the exact opposite of your advice. The ball is high and close to the net, theres no need for topspin. Maybe im an outlier.
Thanks for your comment. Tennis is not a one size fit's all sport. Spin gives you control, what I find players don't practice this shot enough, and that's why they don't get the result they are looking for. It's great you found a way to tackle the high ball for your style of play. Practice it, so it becomes a sure thing.
what is beautiful about this?
I wish we could limit all players to wood racquets so that this wouldn't be what the game is about. It's so much less interesting than what it was.
Thanks for your reply. I do agree, that's why it's such a pleasure to watch a player like Mannarino. However, it's not really the racquets. I've had my son who has a big game hit with a wood racquet and his groundstroke where just as big, if not bigger because of the extra weight. I put it down to the strings.
@@JustImproveYourGame yes you can hit the ball quite hard w wood but w much less control if playing players of equal quality. Borg's strokes aren't very different from those of recent top players, but he couldn't just take massive swings all the time in his wood racquet days. He hit harder in his comeback and on the senior tour. You can even see that on video. He had approach shots in his game with wood racquets. He even had to serve more conservatively and strategically. With Wimbledon surface chewed up by later rounds, he came forward. McEnroe said that he hit harder in his 50s than he did at 23. The rationale of his game went out the window w racquets that rewarded just ripping all out on most shots. We can't get a McEntoe in today's game. Aside from Alcaraz, most players are very tall and have two handed backhands. They aren't particularly athletic or balletic. It's like we're playing chess with all queens now. In golf, they made the courses longer and harder when the equipment changed in order to protect par. The Masters is 20% longer. Tennis doesn't change anything because the top guys rule and they make plenty of dough. But the game has lost the car and mouse quality. Few want to see a game in which a player like Joker, who is awful at coming forward relatively, be rewarded repeatedly. He's a windshield wiper. It's not beautiful or interesting. To me. I like watching players have to strategize to a greater extent and I like seeing contrasting strategies.
@@doobeedoo2 I couldn't disagree more. Players hitting a serve and then putting away a volley is the most boring thing you can watch, yes there are some good cat and mouse points but you also have those today. And to say that modern players aren't particularly athletic when they're much stronger, faster and have much more endurance than older players is baffling. And please explain what's wrong with a player being tall??? And lastly Djokovic is not bad at coming to the net, but I'm guessing you didn't notice that he vastly improved at volleying seeing as you're seemingly stuck in the 80's...
@@tijgertjekonijnwordopgegeten Why not have some tournaments continue as the game is now but other tournaments change up the demands so that we aren't always rewarding the same style of play? The French plays faster than it used to; Wimbledon plays much slower since the court doesn't get nearly as chewed up as it used to; US Open, Aussie, & Indian Wells courts are pretty slow hard courts. So they all reward the same style of play. 6'3 or taller dudes w two handed backhands are now the prototypes.
😂
Yes. Nikishima need this!
Not only Shimaniki... maybe it would also be interesting for people like Sasha
Not a classic golf swing. This swing has modern mechanics. Sam Snead would be a classic golf swing. Very different
Bad analysis. The favorite shot of the righthander is the inside out forehand. Up the middle just means you’re not thinking quickly enough to place the ball. Video announcer is clueless and has never played highly competitive tennis.
I was told not to jump/rotate with body like is praised here. Thoughts?
Thanks for your comment. Ideally yes, staying grounded is always a better option. Hopefully he will calm down as he progresses, but then again some it's part of personality. As a result they learn to live with the errors that it brings.
@@JustImproveYourGame thank you for responding
if you are playing recreational tennis, then the advice of not jumping when hitting is applied better. Once you jump, you can easily miss the sweet spot of the racquet. However, on high level, you can check Alcaraz, Sinner, FAA,... They already have amazing accuracy so they usually jump/rotate to create even more power.
@@quoccuongtran759 yeah I see pretty much everyone leaving ground
@@JustImproveYourGame how is jumping bad? if you watch steffi graf she basically is air borne on every forehand she ever hit
What are you talking about? The only reason he's doing it for Felix here is because Felix's serve is limited by him not have an effective slice. As for staying back so much you can only do that if you're very fast and very young (fit) making that option available to maybe a third of the players on tour.
But this only works on second serves. If it was a first serve, I think felix would still be able to hit a flat, fast ball down the t, and win the point most likely
Depend on the contact angle and ball trajectory (on the rise or falling, backspin or topspin...). If you hit a rising ball upward with open racket face, the ball will hit the sky
Great vid. One thing I am struggling with is the high forehand…. I think I have to lock the hips or delay the hips a little to force my arm to extend a little more before contact?
Thanks for your comment. Don't over think the high ball. If you have someone who can feed you balls, or a ball machine set to give you the high bounce. You just have to learn to trust the physics of tennis. You are putting spin on the ball that will bring the ball down into the court. When my kids where very young I had them Hit up on the ball and try to hit the back fence, it took half a buck before the balls started landing in the court.
You mean steroids?
Prodigy in the making
I thought you meant "EEEEEEEEHHH"
That wasn't an inside out FH‼He was on the deuce side of the court practically‼Come on man your analysis is bad‼
Still more inside out than down the line fh
@@cekinekshn Inside out FH is taken in the deuce side of the court for a righty! This wasn't close‼
@@quentincrisp6933 yes it was close, watch the trajectory of the ball, it doesn't go straight it's more inside out than down the line
@@cekinekshn What's with the "down the line"⁉ This shot was somewhat cross court taken slightly to the right of the service T. That isn't inside out ‼
@@quentincrisp6933 Yeh, I call it the "short diagonal". The big diagonal being the FH cross court but it definitively isn't a DTL shot.
Nice shots but theirs thousands of players who play the EXACT same way or better. But definitely a good shot.
Thousands??? Where?
On the other planets where they play tennis!
Potential for top ten, even number 1. He still 17 and improving. In one year or perhaps 18 months he will be able to pose serious problems to Sinner and Alcaraz.
Who knows, he might even pose problems for Djokovic!
@@SkiingBiologyGod I just think Djokovic will perhaps not be that good in 2025 or 26. We will see. He won gold in the Olympics - I wasn’t expecting him playing that well!
no, it won't work because his frame is too light. novak exposed him on clay because he stood so far back and couldn't blast away from so far back with a light frame. just impossible on clay. he stands much further in on grass and hard and has zero issues
Just do underarm serve...and Carlos cannot get the ball😂
Carlos probably the worts opponent for doing this. He is so fast.
Kyrgios would be pleased with this where he can use more often the underarm serve or Bublik
@@ousmanefaye6119None of them have a chance against Carlos on clay. There's a reason Why people don't use use the underarm serve more often and it's only a surprise shot. If your rival is expecting an underarm serve the chances of winning are pretty low
Carlos will get to that ball pretty easily...
The depth has a lot to do with it - he was able to hit a very deep central ball, the other guy was off balance and couldn't get enough depth in the next shot, which allows Fonseca to step in and basically dictate the point. If he had hit a shallower ball to the center, the other dude would have dictated and probably won the point. He got the opportunity because he hit a very deep ball and got the other guy off balance.
Keep it up
I've noticed Carlos in 2024 standing as far as the Medvedev position which is crazy
It's ridiculous how far back he's standing, most of us play on courts that don't even have that much room. Also, more players need to implement drop serves and not be ashamed about it. It gets criticized as unsportsmanlike but how is it any different than Alcaraz's drop forehand? Force him to stand closer.
he does stand in closer on grass and hard because the ball doesn't bounce high. plus he can generate a lot of pace even with a lighter frame. he can't from a very deep positions contrary to what people think and the reason he does it on clay is because he needs time to handle the higher bounce.
The reason underhand serves are unsportsmanlike is not because they’re short. It’s because the ball toss signifies the “start of play”. In tennis there’s no whistle. If there was a whistle, which made players realise “the serve is coming now” then underhand serves would not be cheap at all. However, usually the surprise is not the short ball. The surprise is that suddenly the ball is already in play, which is unfair imo. In volleyball you have a whistle and as a result nobody thinks a short serve is unfair there, because the team was ready to receive.
@@MrPatrickbuit nah nah, in tennis the rule is ''the speed of the server'' so directly after a point is finished, the server has the right to serve at any time within the 25 second(sometimes more) limit. As a reciever it's your job to be prepaired for that
@@louisedyhlen3234I dont know if its an actual rule that the receiver gets a minimum of 5 seconds preparation after a point has ended. But I know Nadal got his 5 seconds as a receiver by the umpire in a match where he got not enough time to prep by his opponent.
sorry but i want to know if the Olympics strike a copyright on you posting this video?
Nobody is gona copy that. Standing that much behind the baseline is completely retarded. And I say that as a Nadal and Alcaraz fan. Nadal had the same stupid strategy.
Not new, just no variety from Felix
Just do an under arms serve. He is way back.
I’m trying to master underarms, they are very useful, especially if your opponent has any momentum. You just snatch it away.
It would have to be a perfect underarm serve because of Alcaraz extreme speed
@@user-jr6th5rp5k yes it would need to be very good, but even just bringing him forward and moving him up early in the point could throw him off enough to gain some moment in a game
@@MrFoofarew well he only does it on clay and i doubt that someone can consistently hit perfect underarm serves. Even if someone somehow does hit it a few times i doubt that Carlos will will change the return position
facts
Underhand serve?
Stupid to not under arm
But the ace on the central T ?
Yeah but it's his second serve. FAA either has to hit a low percentage first serve again or play into Alcaraz's plan. Had Alcaraz knew that FAA can go for accurate flat serves at will like Sampras he wouldn't have used this strategy.
Swing it like you are wiggling your pork sausage at a stripper on a Thursday evening. - Earnie Els
You need all 3 serves on first and second serves.
Love the advice!
Gravity will bring the ball down* the spin will help, but gravity is very fast and it accelerates the longer the ball is in the air. You are very unlikely to hit a short ball long - much more likely to hit it in the net.
didn't get it
If your not already subscribed, do. I will going more indepth in time. Commentators make tennis seem a lot more complicated then it is. Thanks for your inquiry
You don't normally flap/flick your wrist for topspin. It happens after contact as the wrist folds/breaksdown
Great Advice! You just earned yourself another SUBSCRIBER! Keep up the grind with tennis and UA-cam and I can't wait to see more videos 😊
Up with a closed racket face
Thanks. The angle of your racquet face all depends on the grip you use. What ever grip you use, Keep hitting up.
Sinner just likes to keep himself to himself. I can understand if people think Jannik’s game is boring, but he isn’t a boring person. He likes to keep his private life private, just as we all do. No random stranger needs to know every detail about his life and he knows that.
The only boring men players are Djokovic & Sinner, because they hit the ball flat. with no spin, no variety on their shots. But people like to watch these 2 players against the best opponents, crowds like their opponents having different styles. Sampras serve blowing by one was boring, until they changed the game to stop servers blowing ball by opponent, Sampras couldnt win himself out of a paper bag on a clay court. Old generation of opponents not as good as today. Shelton weighs too much. Skinner is too skinny causing hip problems, but when Skinner gains weight on his tall body, that will slow him down. All the players hit the ball harder & have injuries, so the game needs to be changed to slow injuries. Swiatek isnt that great, & she is too skinny. Many tall Russian girls that are real good, but no one woman dominates. The woman who grunts loud, could get better. Djokovic is a vegetarian they weighs less than he used to. Djokovic & Alverez are like skinny muscular Bruce Lee. Nadal is strong, & a little heavy, but the weight dont slow him down. Nadal was the best, but his style of play causes injuries, while Djokovic style of play causes less injuries. Djokovic not won much against Nadal on clay. Nadal is ambidextrous & sort of left makes him unique, & great to watch. Alverez hits so hard, that he only tries to win the grand slams. Alverez on grass gets the points over quick.
Sinner has the most top spin of all the two-handers on his backhand while his forehand has an average of 3000 rpm, so no he does not hit flat. And please explain how having being skinny is related to having hip injuries?
Bro are you actually insane
Yours is a point that matters depending on the quality of the player your addressing the tip. I've never seen Alcaraz or Nadal playing high % tennis consistently, quite the opposite, yet they're arguably some fo the greatest players ever.
Even more importantly: rather than merely bending her knees, as most WTA players do, she actually arches her back in the take back phase, which provides more power from the torso as she moves forward and begins the striking motion.
