Me too, anything from that period especially is vocally interesting to me...the transition from 2001-2002 also interests me bc her voice was more rested after touring but she didn't hold notes like she used to and used a lot more stylistic choices over technique

I thought that too but some songs on Bomt were more baby voice than others, I think she was still trying different sounds…but obviously this song ended up on Oops and her voice sounds similar enough to the other songs

Her technique got better in 1999 (2000 had moments too) bc she had a vocal coach…but nobody reaches their full potential as a teenager so it’s sad that we didn’t get to see that 😪

I think she has plenty of decent moments and plenty of *wtf is she doing with her voice* moments, but with proper training she’d be more consistently decent

She still did a pretty good job with combining singing and dancing until like 2000, most concerts after that she’d sometimes sing with the track that was about it, but focused on heavy choreo 🤔 But like u said she was inconsistent to begin with and I doubt she had time on top of an already heavy schedule to have extensive vocal training

She had all the tools and natural ability to excel as a vocalist but a lot of things got in the way of that 😩 But she’s still had some great moments

I’m disappointed they ruined her voice she was a really decent singer before they did that

She could have been the triple threat if they hadn’t done that

She had a real rnb vibe to her voice and potential for broadway belts before they destroyed it

If she'd looked after her voice better then I would've loved to see the performances she'd deliver with choreo and vocals 😩 Post 2000 I mean

Doing choreo while having to consciously sing in a way that doesn't come naturally (which i'm sure she could've done healthier but still) meant her vocals were more limited, then when singing ballads she'd usually sound decent but she still held back too much or didn't warm up enough idk... She sung with the deeper tone on the Oops tour sometimes too, but by 2002 her voice sounded damaged to the point where she'd loss range (temporarily)

tbh it would sound a lot better as an upper harmony or smth, and Xtina doing something lower but more chesty and with *more controlled* bc she doesn't belt that high anymore😭

There’s a lot of trauma attached to the industry for her, and not even just bc of conservatorship, but I hope one day she decides to release music independently….shes Britney Spears she doesn’t need a label

Yeah the low larynx sound and the growling and stuff is similar to Christina (but less impressive), but to add to ur point she had a crazyyy busy schedule for her first 2 albums, and with her singing AND dancing she never got to nurture her voice to its full potential

It’s not a theory that she was retrained in 1997 by the producers of her first album, to sing with what fans call the “baby voice”, which was to make her more marketable…the vocal training she had in the late 90s definitely helped but both the “baby voice” and and the low larynx technique are stylistic choices imo, and I think she probably didn’t have enough training to be using these techniques safely while doing extensive touring and dancing at the same time.

I agree. I’ve never understood why fans say she had some extraordinary voice pre-BOMT. She was always an average singer at best.

And I’m very familiar with Britney’s voice & discography including the unreleased material & could likely name every song & performance used in this video (which I did watch in full btw). My opinion remains the same.
