Dave's Digital Movies
Приєднався 23 чер 2018
My videos' cover several subjects, many were made through the lockdown. The original idea was to make my 'MEMORIES OF A CINEMA PROJECTIONIST' available for all. I have edited it down to short excerpts, The videos of my home cinema attract quite a bit of attention. I try to give tips based on my 40 years experience as a cinema projectionist. I have just set up a Dave's Digital Movies facebook page.

KESTREL 2
Переглядів 1876 місяців тому
The Kestrel was back the next morning catching another rat. It did not appear to be hungry after yesterday evenings' feast. I think it was trying to hide it for later. I've not seen any rats for a couple of days so maybe the Kestrel has had them all.
THE KESTREL

We had a few rats after nearby earthworks. I tried the cage trap and only caught hedgehogs and garden birds. (the cage trap does not harm victims caught, they can easily be released.) The kestrel has solved the rat problem but the birds are at now risk, he knows where to find breakfast, lunch & evening meal.
INVERMORISTON SCOTLAND - EVERGREEN in concert
Переглядів 5111 місяців тому
I've put this video together from some old photos that I found the other day. They were all taken when I lived in Invermoriston, some around the garden, others out and about, and some on the Isle of Skye. I teamed up with Phil and we were 'Evergreen' a duo performing popular music for local village hall events. The older generation danced the night away to our efforts... they were good days. Th...

The Wherry MAUD at Sutton Staithe
Переглядів 54Рік тому
Rescued in 1981 from the bottom of Ranworth Broad, the Norfolk Wherry 'MAUD' was restored to full working order. The restoration took eighteen years to complete. The 'MAUD' is one of only two 'trading wherries' sailing on the Norfolk Broads. In their time, the 'Black Sailed Traders' would transport all manner of goods around the area. From timber and road stone to agricultural produce and Norfo...

This chain ferry is on the Norfolk broads. It saves a journey of over 30 miles to get to villages the other side of the river. The ferry is near the village of Reedham and is the only way over the river, unless you travel to Gt Yarmouth or Norwich.
ACOUSTIC TRANSPARENT SCREEN FOR HOME CINEMA
Переглядів 543Рік тому
I've always thought that by placing the speakers behind the screen, it would create a better cinema experience. This video follows my early testing of the screen before ripping out everything to accommodate the new 'acoustic transparent screen'. I never kept track of the cost of the materials, but I estimate it to be well under £200. Those little pots of glue soon start adding up the cost. Over...
KING GEORGES AVENUE 1964

The first part of this 8mm film was shot in 1964 during the building of the dwellings in King Georges Avenue. The second part shows how safe the road was back then. It was originally named 'Rollesby Way', long before it was a through road.

Great footage ❤thank you so much😊regards👍👍👍❤️
Glad you enjoyed it
Remember playing Rugby next to the line while the contractors lfted the track. Should not have closed. How many lines in Norfolk and Suffolk does that apply to...
I had an Allis B from 1952. OPW 448. Still in preservation
Very handy little tractor that.
@davesdigitalmovies kick like a mule on the starting handle though! 😳
Great old timer clip,
These old 8mm films are really worth a look. Thanks for your comment.
Would love to see longer videos of the farming
There are 4 video's of the farm through the seasons, plus 1 called The Harvest. All on youtube. It was filmed on 8mm, which is far more expensive than video tape. Therefore the footage is limited.🥩
Are you part of the farming family you filmed
I was a son-in-law of the guy you see mostly in the videos. Just helping out a few days a week where extra manpower was required.🐖🐖
Woderful brings back memories
978 DPW🚜 still alive and taxed too 🙂
Wow, that's great news.
very good idea
I prefer flat 🫣
Hello Dave. I recently discovered you channel and think your cinema room is fantastic. Can you please tell me the model information of the new Tannoy speakers you have fitted to your ceiling for Atmos sound? Thank you.
Hi Thanks for your generous comments re my home cinema. The Tannoy speakers were from a cheap package used with my old receiver, no model numbers are shown. The Tannoy speakers shown in the video have now been replaced by Dali speakers. The Dali's are just bookshelf speakers sold in pairs, and are a big improvement to the system. I have over the years built up the cinema as time & money allowed. See my video 'Acoustic Transparent Screen for Home Cinema'. ( it's 15 mins so get a drink and snack ready ) This was quite a big project as the screen needed to come forward to make room for the speakers behind the screen. Again this has improved the sound, the dialogue comes straight through the screen from the actors lips. I hope this is all helpful for you. Dave
Hi Dave. Thanks very much for all the information regarding the speakers and I look forward to watching your other video you suggested I watch, regarding the projector screen you have built!!😊😊😊😊@@davesdigitalmovies
Buried alive
😂 haha! Still dont give up your day job lol
It kept the old folk happy back in the day.
And to think even then we were saying "farmig is to intensive". Look were we are now!. 🤔😒😮💨...............
The big tractors of today are a bit scary when I'm out walking on country lanes. Don't think I could handle one of those.
when i was 8 mum use to say to me when i came out school get your bit string and go down the walf and get some herring for tea dad use to say try get me a mackeral when the fisherman use to pull the baskets up and some use to fall on the floor i would get a dozen and mum use to cook them use to do ir 3 times a week great memoties they were
We would cycle from Burgh Castle to pick up a few herring as the boats unloaded. No elf n' safe back then.
My dad had one of them
That was a good old tractor, it came to the farm brand new.
They will do a job today,I use an old Massey 165 on my livery stable.
thats when yarmouth was so good not like the shit hole of today so peacefull
Oh.. the good old days.
What ever Was In That Pig Meal at The Time They loved it we Used To Mix it With Household Swill and Veg off cuts.
Ground barley and maize with a malt product added, plus other serial additives. Never much left overs from the house, we were always hungry back in the day.!!
Brilliant video bring back the old way we still farm old way and plenty of time to do the job no ripping around
Thanks for your comment, it's hard work but very satisfying.
I appreciate your videos. I was wondering if you could direct me towards information about the Great Yarmouth Regal's history such as what you've shared here. Are there any books available on this, or particular historians I could contact?
I have written a book 'Memories of a Cinema Projectionist'. It relates to the general daily running duties of my time at the Regal & the Regent from 1960 through to 1987. There are backstage stories from the live shows and film presentation. Not much of a 'History' book, but it gives an insight into the events over the years. This video promotes the book. ua-cam.com/video/V5q5Scb1LHI/v-deo.html
@@davesdigitalmovies Thank you.
Hard work brought back a lot of memories working on a 350 mixed arable in N Yorkshire. Class 14’ cut combine, Ford 4000, fordson Dexter and major rear loader mucking out etc. Great banter among the team
Yep... been there... done that. Thanks for your comment.
Muito lindo me dá saudade tempo de respeito homens trabalhadores parabéns pelo vídeo muito lindo uma nostalgia ❤😊moro no sul do Brasil🎉
Levz master unicor
yes I found that very interesting I love Cinerama saw 200i back in1968in London
Thanks for your comment
I quit going to the movies because they quit using maskng. I can't stand the gray bars on the top and bottom at the movies at home I shift the picture lens up some and I have a black mask that I click in to place at the bottom for scope movies that the sound can pass thew. I have a 155in at screen me and my friend build at home in the room we cant take it out now the matrial came from a place called carls it is woven something i cant remember and there is lot of moving blanks behind the screen to stop reflection it sounds much better then the profesional theater in my town
It's good to know that you mask your screen to fit the ratio. Modern cinemas have no sense of presentation... and don't get me started on variable ratios in movies !!!! Thanks for your comments.
Was that Beccles market?
Well spotted, yes it was.
Very good video.
Thank you.
2 furrow plough. It must of taken ages
Digging by hand around the electric pylon was the worst thing about it.
@@davesdigitalmovies omg
indeed.@@dannymiester5825
Nice one A great bit of history Men weren't afraid of hard work
The hedges looked better in those days, and the bonfire was great on a cold winter morning.
I also remember our old Massey Harris Bagger combine. It was used from the late 1960s to the early 1970s cutting 10-15 acres of Barley. It was replaced with a Class combine which was huge compared to the old bagger. I do not expect there can that many people who remember being on these machines now.
I certainly remember how heavy those sacks where. It's nice to be able to look back on those days.
74 year i was born i remember those machines well as they were still in every day use into the 90s here in Ireland in the hill farms.....i have an uncle who farmed with horses until the early 80's so these machines would have been a step up...😊
I was born in 1943 so remember riding on horseback while 'Old Billy' was ploughing.
What a wonderful film!
Thank you, I am so pleased that you enjoyed it.
@@davesdigitalmovies I did indeed. Many thanks for your reply
Really brought back memories of my childhood spent on the small family farm where l learnt to drive a fordson dexta and super major, and my uncles wore exactly the same style of clothes Happy Happy days 😊
You could always spot the farmer in a crowd, and yes, they were good days. Very hard work though, couldn't do it now.
What a lovely film!
Thank you for your comment.
Lovely look back to harvest half a century ago
Wow, half a century... I've never thought about it like that... No wonder I'm feeling old.
Thanks
Is the farm still going, under the same family ownership.
No, it was all auctioned off back in the mid 80's.
Interesting to see the size of the tractors; I remember a Ford 5000 around that time as being a big machine. Out here on the Lincolnshire fens all the tractors seem huge now, is there a "yard tractor" today? We had an old Ford 2000 (probably wasn't so old) that was used for all manner of jobs - it would sit on the bonnet of the big JDs I see.
Those big modern tractors really are huge, especially on our narrow country lanes. I don't think I could handle one of them. Thanks for your comments.
Thinking a Norfolk farm , reg on the tractors PW , and old registration for east Anglia
You are thinking correctly, indeed it is Norfolk.
I grew up beside a farm that was so much like this; I was 13 when this film was made. We were involved in everyday life, welcomed onto the farm as long as we were careful and did as we were told. Tractor driving under a watchful eye until considered "competeent" then small jobs, bale cart, rolling and harrowing. There was also a dairy herd, so twice daily milking. A fantastic time and I would'nt change a thing. Thanks for sharing your films.
Thanks for your comments, yes they were good times.
Nice to see that the Fordson Super Major 978 DPW is still taxed until 01/01/24.
That's interesting, she came to the farm second hand with quite a bit of previous use and several knocks. At the time it was a luxury just to have a cab.
Front loaders on a Fordson Major were hard to use without power steering, as the steering was very heavy anyway. I loved the noise from the Simms diesel injector pump.
With a rear loader, and a good load in the bucket, the front wheels were very light on the ground. This made steerage a bit variable. It all makes for a good video.
That is all early 60s equipment not 70 as usual someone hasn't done their homework
Still using 60's equipment in 1975... FILMED IN 1975
Wrong! The Allis Chalmers tractor was first registered in May 1953 so not all 60s. One hundred lines for not checking.
I never claimed any dates, just that it was filmed in 1975. That @john hicks bloke is making the 60's claim, but I doubt he reads any replies to his suburb knowledge.
Do your homework John, read the title
Brilliant, marvellous films and chock full of memories and the tractors, the best , David Browns , i liked a Fordson too but that was somewhere else .👍🇬🇧
Thanks for your comments.
I started my combining days on a Claas SF 10 foot cut back in 1963
Keep on a troshin'
Great movie takes me back to working on a farm in the late 1960s
Good times, but I could not do it now...
Love these films thanks for putting them up, all very familiar, Super Majors, Claas Combine, baleing & carting, grain augers the lot, brilliant, even Elms in the hedgerows, great to see 👌🏽
Thanks for your coments.
Wow, used to do the same back then with the grain, into a bath tub with the auger in it and add “PropCorn” acid as the grain moisture content was slightly high and had no driers, then had to go in the self assembled hardboard & gutter bolt grain silo and shovel the grain around so the silo didn’t distort and the acid would burn your eyes, funny enough I was only describing this to someone this week… Great video
If I remember rightly, the 'tub' was war dept surplus. i.e. cheap.
Nice! 😃 2023 and i got one of those Claas Columbus combine, one of thos allis Chalmers B (from part 2) and my friend got a Fordson major!
The old Allis was a bit of a job to start if the engine was warm, but starting from cold... first or second pull. It's good to know you young folk are keeping these old machines running.
