This channel has some DIY things on it, and a general "life on the ranch" theme. I also do a little bit of philosophizing, and I have an opinion on everything. It's my channel, my philosophies and my opinions (unless otherwise noted). I don't do this for monetary gain from UA-cam or anyone else. It is just a hobby. Cub Cadet Spindle Replacement and Deck Repair Part 2
This is part 2 of the Cub Cadet RZT L54 spindle replacement and deck repair. I also give a brief review of the VTEK Brushless Impact Wrench 1/2 Inch Chuck,Max Torque 700N.m Cordless Impact Wrench 515 ft-lbs,Impact Gun that I bought on Amazon. I welded the guard to the deck at the grass outlet, and I briefly show what was entailed in that.

John Deere 3038e Stalling: Find and Clean the Fuel Tank Screen Filter WITHOUT Removing the Fuel Tank

(If you want to see the video where I have removed the screen, go to the 05:54 mark) I have found very little information about cleaning a fuel tank filter on a John Deere 3038e. So, I decided to make a video about this. I was prepared to pull the fuel tank and clean it, which would have caused me to pull the steering wheel and instrument cluster, and that may need to be done in severe cases. H...

I was having problems with stalling and found your video. I didn’t know there was a filter there either. Pulled the screen, cleaned the sludge off, runs like a champ again. Thanks for the video.👍
Glad it helped. Just to let you know, I am fixing to have to do it again. I know for a fact there has been no way debris was getting in the tank since I cleaned the screen. So there there must have been some left over. I am going to run some diesel through it when I pull the screen this time and try to clean the tank out. But it took it a while to accumulate again. Glad the info helped. I know how frustrating that stalling is.
Yah blame the ground.
I am making an assessment concerning why the deck has been failing. Take it if you can use it, leave it if you can't.
My tractor just clicks and won’t roll over
That sounds like a problem with the battery, or battery connection(s) or all the above. If your battery is over 3 years old, that is where I would start. Take the battery off (if it is a 3038e, the brackets holding it are very possibly on the side of the battery, and you have to get under the tractor and take the nut off the bracket bolt while holding the bolt with a wrench on the top by the battery) and have it tested. One thing to note about a battery... just because it may be showing 12.4 to 12.6 volts if you put a multimeter on it does not mean it is a good battery. You need to take it to have it tested (many auto parts stores do that) to test the cca (cold cranking amps) to see if it is still putting out the correct amperage. If it isn't, it will have trouble cranking your tractor. However, the connection to the battery could be bad. Or both the connection and battery could be bad. Take the clamps off and clean the inside of the clamps with a battery post cleaner (get those at auto parts stores) and clean the posts as well. There are many videos showing how to do this. If you are using "temporary clamps" on the battery, then replace the whole cable with the oem or equivalent cable. It will save TONS of headaches in the future. Please let me know how it works out, or if you have already done these things, please convey what you have done and I'll try to help you figure it out.
I forgot to mention that I put a brand new battery in it, I pulled them three relays under the stearin wheel, and it started ….. and the battery…. You can bet your bottom dollar…. I didn’t reinstall it like it was …. I put two eye bolts and a strong rubber strap across the top of the battery
Thank you so much for all the info that you put out there
@@wadeballinger6877 Yes, I don't know what JD was thinking when they put that battery set up in there. Probably thinking we would bring it to JD to get it worked on. Putting that fuse box where it is really causes a lot of trash to be able to collect in there. I'm glad you got it going. I know how annoying it can be with starting problems. Take care!
I believe my 3038e is a 2014 model and that same fitting comes off the bottom of the tank. They must’ve improved that so the firewall wasn’t in the way of removing it.
Perhaps. But John Deere isn't in the habit of making things easier for the DIY crowd, LOL. Thank you for the comment.
Wow ! What a rare find ! Thanks for this !!! It's GOLD !
Thank you. I hope it was helpful.
I want to add this: I make these videos for people like you. I don't care about youtube paying me or having a huge number of hits or subscriptions. I refuse to "sell my soul" to youtube. If only one person can find something useful or not have to "reinvent the wheel", that gives me all the satisfaction I need. So thank you for letting me know and for responding as you have.
It has come to my notice that John Deere has moved the fuel tank of the 3038e from the front of the operator's station in front of the steering wheel, to the left side of the seat of the operator's station. Therefore, this tutorial may not be relevant for the later model of the 3038e.
I can’t see where you are. It looks like I have two outlets from the fuel tank. There is one on the left side of the tractor that I can easily get to, but when I get the hose off and the brass fitting out, there is no filter attached to it. The second outlet on the right side of the tractor is lower than the left side. It is next to impossible to remove the brass piece from that side. I can remove the hose but not the brass piece. Do I have a different model than you? It’s a JD 3038e that I’ve had for about two years new. When I sit on the tractor, the fuel tank cap is right behind my left shoulder.
Wow, behind your left shoulder. What year was it manufactured? Mine was around 2012, if memory serves. I'll be glad to see if I can help you with this. Which side is your fuel filter on? And the "bowl" that catches the water in the diesel? I don't think they made a gas 3038e, but just to make sure, it is diesel?
If you would like to email me, go to ua-cam.com/channels/486b--BUANdl2-Bqhv51IA.htmlabout . The About window will pull up in the middle of the screen, but it may take a few seconds to do that. You can click "View Email Address" when the About window pulls up and it will give you my email address.
@@EastTexasRanching this one is a 2021 or 2022. I did some image searches. You mentioned yours being by the firewall, and I guess yours has a tank in front of the steering wheel. (Right?). On mine, the tank is in the back, a 7.5gal. It fits thinly behind the entirety of the seat with what appears to be two outlets with two hoses that empty into the same line on the right side of the tractor under the right side of the seat. The filters are on the right side of the tractor in front of and down from the foot pedals under a black cover. The left fuel tank outlet is higher than the right. I thought I might fill it completely up and see if it affects operation where I know the level of diesel will be higher than both outlets. 🤷🏻
@@johnjames8253 Yes, it looks like they just kind of jammed the thing beside the operators seat. I don't know if I like that. I run over way too many things that could damage the tank if they flipped up. Anyhow, you can get a good picture if you haven't see it yet at shop.deere.com/us/product/LVA22038%3A-Fuel-Tank/p/LVA22038 . Getting it out of having to deal with the hood was a good thing, but I think it is better protected on the front. I noticed what looks like the outlet on the actual picture at that URL (not a diagram). It may give you a better idea. I can see where it would be inconvenient to get to. If you think I can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me. I know how frustrating this tractor can be. It is a little workhorse, but JD really has gone to great lengths to make it hard for a DIY person to work on it.
@@EastTexasRanching Aint that the truth. I’ll take a look. I appreciate any help. I have a feeling I’m going to end up in the service department….. let’s hope not!
that fuse affects the rpm gauge, dome light, and upper brake light in many ford vehicles.......problem is the computer gets no rpm data so it doesn't know when to shift.
Yes. We had pulled the fuse to turn off the dome light because the door switch had gone bad and it was running down the battery. It was quite surprising that it was the problem with the transmission, as the two have absolutely nothing to do with each other. But I think they created a weakness when they ran it like that.
Top bit of info mate, Question just unhooked my load & now don’t have any forward or reverse transmission. Pedals are soft & go straight to the floor!,, any help out there please?. Regards Jim
The first thing I would check is they hydraulic fluid level. If you are out of, or to too low of fluid, the condition you described will certainly happen. If you are referring to a 3038e (or similar model, I would assume) there is a small length of hydraulic hose that is under the tractor close to the transmission around the hydraulic filter (and can be hard to replace) that can become damaged, and the fluid will drain fast from that damage. I have had this happen to me. The "belly" or "underside" of this model is very exposed and unprotected, and it can cause damage if you are using the tractor on rugged terrain (which, that is what tractors are for). Please let me know what you find.
Thanks for info , filled ,new filters, but I am thinking it might be the rubber back of motor uni join joint between motor
@@jimfin3922 By rubber, do you mean a rubber hose?
No , There is a rubber uni joint to do with pump unit Regards Jim @@EastTexasRanching
I found this screen by accident, same deal no fuel flow. I not know how you did this with a loader on the tractor. Mine does not Have loader. It helps a little if you remove the panel around the fuse panel ( 4 Bolts) Great Video Thanks
Yes, John Deere information certainly doesn't point you to that particular screen. Makes me wonder how many people have spent a lot of money bringing the tractor into John Deere to be worked on for what is an overall easy and cheap fix. Glad you enjoyed the video.
My 3038e died in the field yesterday while plowing. Finally got it started and back to the barn. Thanks for posting. That’s the first thing I’ll work on tomorrow.
If you can, please let me know if that was the problem. It is very common.
I fixed it yesterday. The mesh filter was so bad that I couldn’t see light through it. I used carb cleaner and a small wire brush. Reinstalled and it runs perfect. Thanks again.
@@markgoodman6503 That is great to hear. I know how frustrating it can be to have it stall out.
Thank you for video
Not a problem. This seems to be an alarmingly common problem. One guy almost got flattened by a trunk he was lifting when the hydraulic detent broke and the lift went all the way up. Only the guy's steering wheel stopped the wood. It looks like JD would do a recall. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you! Changed all my filters and had the same problem. Watched your video and pulled that screen out and it was definitely clogged. Just got in from mowing, no problem. Appreciate you sharing!
Oh yes, I know how frustrating it can be. Glad you found the video useful!
F350
Is that what you have? I don't know much about the f350's. I have never owned one. The 7.3 in the F250's is a very sought after engine. I understand that the 6.0 and others of that same genre have some power issues.
Got a 3032e, mine did same
There seems to be a design flaw, but John Deere had steadfastly refused to correct it. One guy that it happened to was raising part of a tree trunk, and when the spring popped the end off, the lift came all the way up and rolled the trunk down the arms of the loader. The only think that kept the guy from being crushed was the steering wheel, which the trunk demolished, but it kept the trunk from hitting the guy. The guy tried to get JD to correct the problem (they ended up, I believe, having to replace his tractor which was severely damaged by the trunk), but JD didn't seem too concerned about it, from what the guy told me. JD could have serious trouble is someone is injured or killed because they won't fix this and do a recall.
Man you just saved me a lot of time.. just picked up a 97f250hd power stroke 5k. Needed rear springs and came with the parts. .. drove it home. After installing springs in his yard. Truck ran wonderful.. no speedo. Odometer or dome light…. And od light was blinking.. and shifted hard. that dam light fuse was out and cured it seems everything soon as I plugged one in.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! we have been fighting with our 3038E for months - I could jump start the darned thing with a engine starter and it would run for a couple hours and then die. We put a new battery in and that did not fix anything. Tried your test; low and behold for the first time in months it started right up! Headed to John Deere in the morning for a new starter relay!
Dude you didnt show how it broke HUH did you do it step on it I dont know what the crap happed poorly producrd video JS

Oh yes, you are in east East Texas, LOL. I am closer to Rusk Tx. Good luck on the power stroke. They are good engines. We actually put a temperature gauge in the cab for the transmission oil. I don't know if the TPS is tied into this, but I have heard that there is a module that has to do with the barometric pressure that will adjust the fuel intake in case you travel up a high mountain. Also, there is supposed to be some kind of pump or filter between the fuel tank and engine that has a diaphragm in it that can rupture, and it will start sucking air through a vent hole in the side of it and cause a problem with the fuel mixture. Anyhow, good to hear from you, neighbor!
Thank Ya neighbor!! im 50 miles east of Lufkin. been around & through Rusk many times, thanks for the info. i had this truck about 5 yrs 211k when i bought it 245 k now never had much trouble with it since i had it , still fairly clean get lots a comments on it , other than tranny wont shift into od , i cant complain

I’m having the Same issue but the lights work but I don’t have no display on the screen do you have any idea
I got a 96 bought new, got trouble with on starting about half the time will run like it's got a high lift can in it till I face the motor a little then let back down out set for a few seconds then it runs fine. Has started not going into gear at first moving the shifter into gear. Have been told that the problem is the range switch or neutral safety switch. Have bought 3 of them Heather of which will let the truck start. The stock ford one is not available. I wondered if the edge programmer had to have the stock program in it to let the switches work but edge tecks are noe too young to know. I am stumped where do I go from hear
We had trouble with it starting for a while due to a leak in the fuel system. I think there is a diaphragm in something that was between the fuel tank, and the engine, that got a hole in it and it was sucking air through a vent hole. You may want to look for something like that. Also, I was told that there is a module that is an air pressure module that can go bad and make one run rough. It is typically for mountain roads, so I am told, to adjust for the atmospheric pressure changing as you go up a mountain. But if it goes bad, it can cause problems with the running of the engine no matter the air pressure.

You don't know a good place to get parts for a long?
Longparts.com. That is where I buy my parts, especially specialized parts. It has an easy parts lookup. The Long tractor was originally made in the old Soviet Union, and the owner of longparts.com is actually Russian. They have a very good mechanic on hand too. Now, all of this was before the pandemic thing, so it may have changed since then. But I have been very satisfied with them. Their warehouse and headquarters is somewhere in the mid west United States.
Good information. But why did I have to look at the truck bedliner the entire time? Thank you.
I don't have a tripod. And I hope my videos have gotten a bit better in their quality, LOL. That was one of the first ones I did. I have the same complaint about videos that I watch that are a bit 'dull' in the area of aesthetics. However, if they have that one thing I needed to fix a problem I was having, then I let is slide, LOL. Thanks for watching and commenting, and I hope you found the video useful.
My lights don't even come on. So sad. Lots of good info in here though
Mine don't either at this time (July 2021). I am looking to fix that. Will make a video when I do. However, if the lights don't work and you aren't getting anything to the starter, it could be a battery situation, OR there could have been an over burden on your system and it blew a couple of components. Check the lights fuses as well, and see if it has been blown.
I have the same issue but the lights work but the display screen will not light up do you have any solution for me

This is the first one I have seen in East Texas, and I have lived here all my life. It is a shame they are killed because people don't check to see if they are poisonous. They do put on a show, that is for sure. Yes, it is not one of the things I enjoy about raising cattle. But it is why we raise cattle. The best I can do is give them a good place to live, plenty of food, water, grass to graze on and land to roam on. But in the end, unless they die on the property, this is how it ends.
