    One thing to think about is if you pop off before your wife after you have retired .Could she manage on her state pension after you have gone .I'm 69 soon had 2 private pensions took the main one at 66 when state pension kicked in .Second one also pays out as life insurance tax free if die before 75 is taxed after that .I've set date for second one at 70 now pot suffered from COVID then wars starting just recovering now .I shall take the 25% tax free at 70 leave rest invested for wife .She is on old state pension and would get half annuity monthly payment from 1st pension then have 75% off second pension pot .I never thought about this when retired early but glad didn't cash in pension pots early .Your right about health now better off financially but not got energy needed to do what I want .We had 3 good years doing VWds with an old camper with Vespa on the back used to make it our main holiday have 3 plus weeks .I'm after another camper at the moment but wife not as keen now .She would rather be home working on her garden .😊

The Vespa club run a challenge throughout the "season" where each region (there are 15 regions) have 100 locations you can visit and register your attendance by submitting a photo. At the end of the year there are lots of trophies given out for both regional and National awards, take a look at our video from last year; ua-cam.com/video/_g-7B9rMW8U/v-deo.html

    Like the other comments, if you can keep the three then great. On a practical level, how comfortable are you with maintaining the older ones? If going forward you would not want to be messing about with too much maintenance, then keep the GTS. If you love getting down and dirty with the maintenance and that's what really floats your boat then you have a lot of thinking and contemplating to do!

    Definitely that Chinese Vespa. Those real Vespas converted to electric if you wanted to, would be way more valuable as you probably know already! I converted all my Vespa and Lambretta to electric now they go 0-100kph in 1.2 seconds and top speed of 175 kph way better than the 2 stroke motors could ever do for me and more importantly, not a single break down in 10 years! Ride on mate!

  • @Smudgie
    @Smudgie 3 місяці тому

    I'm 62 and retirement is fairly close. I still have to wait 3 years for payout on my life insurance and other investments and i am starting to feel they will be 3 wasted years. Both of my parents died in their mid seventies and due to illness, I feel I will be fortunate to live much longer than they did. I don't own a house and have always rented, so I will always have to spend a large proportion of my state pension on rent. I have managed to save a good deal and have calculated that my savings would last me well into my eighties, living the same as I do now. That is, providing I keep working for the next 3 years and paying off my investments. It's a real conundrum knowing whether to err on the side of caution or whether to just throw caution to the wind.

    • @vespadventures4557
      @vespadventures4557 3 місяці тому

      I agree. We're in the position that while we own this house (with mortgage), the current mortgage rates and energy costs mean we are just treading water at the moment and covering our bills, without really adding to any savings or investments - meanwhile getting older by the day...

  • @rkbeswick
    @rkbeswick 3 місяці тому

    Sorry, I'd forgotten that the GT has a 200cc engine, so no problem there. There's a woman on UA-cam who posts videos of her European scooter tours. Her first tours were on a Honda Forza 125. This year she plans to go on a Suzuki 110cc scooter because it's lighter, and because she's getting older. I guess it's all about what we are happy with. I used to go touring on 1200cc motorcycles, but now I'd rather go on 300cc scooter. I wish that I'd discovered sooner that you don't need a big heavy motorcycle to tour on. The simple reason for that is because I get more enjoyment doing it on a scooter. Here's a thought, I think a lot of people, myself included, could benefit from your own experience of touring on scooters.. What I mean by that is a video on things like, luggage, how to pack, what to take, and what not to take, etc. Just a suggestion, hope you don't mind.

    I am 44 and think about my retirement a lot. I have a good company pension and try and up payments every year. I would like to retire at 60, another 16years of work in front of me. But if I did retire earlier, I would also like to get a part time job in a bike dealership working on the clothing sales or something similar. As I love the whole bike industry. But I did find this interesting, thanks for the food for thought!

    I retired at 65, I'm now 71, and the time really does fly. I think the really important thing about retiring is what you are going to be doing with all the extra time that you have on your hands. Personally I have so many interests, etc. I don't know how I found the time to go to work. My father on the other hand, took early retirement at 63, but because he was so bored he went back to work. Unfortunately he died in his sleep when he 64, and never got to draw his state pension. I'm a scooter rider like you and I know how the weather in this country can be so restrictive. Being retired gives you so much more opportunity to get out there when it's fine, and do what you enjoy doing. When you're retired every day is a Saturday except for Sunday. My wife and I have a camper van like you and because she doesn't like flying we have no need for expensive holidays. We head across to France with a scooter on a trailer behind the van, and the great thing about being retired is that we're not trying to squeeze as much as we can into a 2 week holiday before going back to work. My brother is 66 and still works. He and his partner spend around £8000 each summer for 2 weeks in the Caribbean. I tell him he's out of his mind! I'm so glad that I find enjoyment and satisfaction doing the less expensive things in life! My advice is to retire as soon as you can afford to. The greatest luxury anyone can have is time. The longer you are working the less of that luxury will be yours to enjoy. I wish you both well as you explore your options, and look forward hopefully to some more of your great Vespa videos. Ray.
