I agree. Unfortunately, they still operate like a mid tier team in payroll instead of a big market top 10 team, even though they are featured at #9 I believe in payroll. They aren't as aggressive as some other teams. However, getting rid of three or four contracts that make literally zero sense for us should help (Smyly, Hendricks, Bote, etc.) I' m not sure what the numbers are on J-Hey's deferred contract are so maybe that's even more money coming off the books. However, that May record for the Cubs is pretty atrocious. I just want them to pick a lane and stick to it. Either try or suck hard.

@@BrotherlyCubs Right. You’re going nowhere with complimentary players. For $94 million split between Suzuki Happ Cody and Swanson you have a cumulative 3.7 WAR, for a 9.3 WAR and $71 million you can have Judge and Soto. Those guys aren’t easy to come by obviously but $94 million to those 4 with limited track records of success is an idiotic wast of $.

I've paid attention to the Cubs all my life. And I've never seen such a waste of good starting pitching. And I mean WASTE. 20 games blown by the bullpen...count 10 more with the anemic run production support. ---Just imagine some of those early 70's clubs with this 2024 starting pitching... we are talking World Series slotted vs. the American League winner before all-star break! ...What started this current winning streak? The veteran well-paid players are hitting like the back of their baseball cards and now...run saving type defense at 3rd base! ...Plus, Crow-Armstrong has embraced the mindset of doing anything possible to get on base and scratch a run across the plate.

@@85decibelmonks30 Thanks so much for the comment! Wholeheartedly agree…offense has been so bad, namely Morel has really dropped off. Wish they would have done something with him already (trade or send down in favor of someone else). I hate seeing Taillon in trade rumors especially since he has had a decent year. If you could make a couple deadline moves, what would you do??

@@BrotherlyCubs sell Happ, Busch, Morel....need guys who can drive the ball to the gaps, not just swing for a home run every time and hit .200

@@DerbyKnowledge93 in favor of selling Busch if we can turn him into another piece, so it becomes more like a buy. Happ had a no trade clause. Morel is under team control as well so he’s more like a guy you give up when trying to buy. I think the team will do those moves in the offseason

I agree. I think they need to move into a youth movement once ready. I would think next year a lot of these guys should be ready in 2025. Unfortunately, I think Jed is under contract through next season. Unless Andrew Friedman is walking through that door, I doubt the Cubs move on from Jed unless he makes some pretty historically bad trades on behalf of the club.

Thanks for commenting! Alonso has a high slug, decent walk rate and low strike out rate. They did already invest in Busch. So that would be tough to make a trade and then back track so quickly

Love Pete Alonso, kind of 1-dimensional like you said. Lots of slug and his average is up slightly from last year. It would give the Cubs a legit slugger and a feared hitter in the lineup. Probably would provide the most slug we have had since KB or Schwarbs.

Man, I wish we could trade Hoyer. I would have done that 2-3 years ago.. :(

I like Vlad but worried about his slugging being down. Bregman would be a great positional fit and then can move Morel to DH . Paredes would be solid too

I like Paredes. Hopefully the Rays get into sell mode and make him available. He could be a sneaky get.

He did make a couple moves last year. They have a few less easy-to-trade players this year so selling might be more tough. Unless it’s Leiter/Neris

@@timad11 betting on Cuas was a tough one. They needed a 3B last year , but DFA’ing Estrada made no sense when he had options and looked insanely good in the minors last year

They will need to start performing better to convince the front office to make trades. I agree that last year they didn’t make big moves. Jed should be on the hot seat if this isn’t a playoff team

Yup! I think Wicks will be brought back to pitch in long relief with Hendricks or vice versa. Assad deserves to keep his spot. at least until Horton is up

We have a ton of injuries and underperformance so we need it badly but I think every team wants more bullpen help. We are glad to be done playing Braves end of next week for sure

@BrotherlyCubsPodcast I never have cared about contracts or how much some players are getting paid. I guess because it's not my money. Really if you're a player on my favorite team I will support you and cut you some slack, hoping things will turn around. It's just how I've always been. I might complain about someone not hitting with risp or something but I don't dislike them for it.

Agreed that the HRs are an issue. I think the Cubs pitching infrastructure will focus on elevated rising fastballs and also the splitter as well to induce weak contact and ground balls. It'll be an interesting year for sure. Thanks for listening!

Yes, agree it is a toss up. Signing Bellinger helps. We'll see how Imanaga, Horton, Brown, etc do for pitching. The unknowns with decent ceilings

Cubs had the most to make the top 100 list of any team!
