I was messing around with polyrhythms and I came up with this little exercise/song. I don’t know why but I like the really simple chord progression (just a minor and G) with the more complex rhythm. The rhythm obviously isn’t anywhere near to perfect but I thought I might as well make this anyway. Today (the Fourth of July) also marks one year of me playing my dulcimer. I think it’s fun to look...

A Metronome in the Sound Hole of a Dulcimer? Improv

I thought it was interesting that my metronome made my low e buzz for a second, so I made a little improv with it. I think this has something to do with the harmonics of the E but I’m not sure why yet. It is interesting to me that the note doesn’t buzz for its whole length but only for the first second or so. If any one knows why please do tell. Also I have never really improvised before so I d...

Ice cream taste good. This is a song originally by Simon and Garfunkel, that i didn’t really have to arrange a whole lot, I roll a few chords and that’s about it. Also sorry if there are any slight tuning issues, my treble bridge is about a millimeter or two off in some places so it may sound out of tune, but this time I promise my dulcimer is sober. I was on a little bit of a time crunch makin...
Bach’s prelude to cello suite, played on the hammered dulcimer

This video was inspired by Ted Yoder’s version of this song. I started learning this song about three to four weeks ago, and it is definitely the hardest song I have ever played. My hammers are the 12.6 gram harlequin bob Bedard hammers by wolf hill wood working, because I know someone will ask. Thank you for watching!

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
