Berwick to St. Boswells Part 2 - Velvet Hall to Norham
Переглядів 5913 роки тому
#DisusedRailways #AbandonedRailways Picking up from the end of Part 1 at Velvet Hall the line continues to wind its way through the countryside to Norham. As with so many of the stations on this line, Norham station is some distance from the village of Norham itself. This is part of an irregular series of videos following the line from Berwick to St. Boswells via Kelso. My intention is to retur...
Berwick to St. Boswells Railway - Tweedmouth to Velvet Hall
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
The railway from Berwick upon Tweed to St. Boswells was first opened in 1849 and closed completely between Berwick and Kelso in 1965 with the Kelso to St. Boswells section closing in 1968. Little of the infrastructure remains today and some sections have been ploughed into fields. This series of videos can be seen as a record of what remains at the time of filming between 2019 and 2021.

Penicuik Railway Path
Переглядів 704 роки тому
Originally opened in 1872 the Penicuik Railway was built to serve the paper mills dotted along the River Esk in Midlothian, Scotland. Substantial passenger traffic also built up but that tailed off mid 20th Century. The line closed to passenger traffic in 1951 and finally to goods traffic in 1967. Today the line is laid as cycle path and runs through two tunnels and the Firth Viaduct near Auche...
Innocent Railway, Edinburgh
Переглядів 1104 роки тому
I love cycling on the disused railways in and around Edinburgh. The Innocent Railway used to be a goods line transporting material in and out of the city, particularly coal from the pits around Dakieth. The earliest parts of the railway were opened in 1831 and it was the first railway to serve the city. These days it is a cycle path connecting areas such as Craigmillar with the city centre.

#DisusedRailways #Mavic2Pro #AbandonedRailways Part of a photographic project to record the remaining infrastructure on the disused railway line that ran through north Northumberland from Tweedmouth to Cornhill (Coldstream). This video is a collection of video shot with a Mavic 2 Pro and photographs on ground level. This stretch takes in the viaduct at West Newbiggin and the line between there ...
The "Bridge to Nowhere" has always fascinated me from when I was a wee boy.
It is a rather quaint anomaly that sits in the middle of the fields.
Great vid - thank you
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. I have more material along this line but not made the time to put it out yet.
These videos are excellent. They give a good impression of the line in a modern context. I love the drone footage especially when it’s fairly low and slow. It’s like you’re moving on a train. Looking forward to the rest of your travels. I intend to walk in the opposite direction from st boswells but I can see the problems in making progress. I can’t find a publication that gives a guide for walking this railway. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching Bruce. I believe the line is somewhat over grown heading west of Roxburgh. Can't confirm that as I haven't reached there yet. You might be interested in a book "Walking Scotland's Lost Railways" written by Robin Howie and John McGregor. It details a number of Scottish lines and gives directions for walks.
Thanks I don’t think that I have that book. Have you read my book on ‘The Spirit of the Borders Railway’? I describe some walks in there. It’s out of print but it is available as a PDF from me or from Douglas Blades books who has one or two copies left. Ps Are you a bass player?
@@bruceball6312 Thanks for the heads up on your book. There seems to be lots of mentions of it on the net. I am a bass player and put my music up as BassBus Music on UA-cam.
Love this. I live close to the line in Tweedmouth.
Good place to live.
If you ever want original music for your videos for free...I’m your man
Nice local history content and great drone footage 🙏👍🙏🏿
Thank you and thanks for the sub.
Excellent, looking forward to the rest of the journey!
Thanks Ross. Lockdown permitting I might even be able to venture past Kelso some time in the future.
@@bassbusvideo4510 I certainly hope so! Brought back fantastic memories; we used to stop at Carham station for a cuppa most Sundays on the way to Berwick, and Mid Ord was exciting not for being the first to the sea, but who saw the railway line first...happy days! I was also on the 1963 Glenny's Special that features in Bruce McCartney's Memories of Lost Border Railways, I was only 4 years old but still have vivid memories of the trip to Berwick via Boswells and Tweedmouth. Kind regards, Ross
@@rossturnbull8047 What fantastic memories. I never knew the railway when it was working but I get so much energy walking along it and imagining what it would have been like with trains running through the cuttings and under the bridges. These early childhood memories you have must be some of the best.
Excellent video.. thanks. Love the drone shots. I often walk past Maxton Station house near St Boswells. Looking forward to future episodes through to the Waverley lìne.
Thanks Colin. If we continue to have successive lockdowns it might take me a few years to get to St. Boswells :-)))
Excellent way to follow an old line that has intrigued me for years. Sunday school trip to Tweedmouth a fond if distant memory catching a train from Hawick and changing at Boswells! What drone are you using?
Great memories for you traveling on the line. I'm using a Mavic 2 Pro. Thanks for watching.
