We love CASS so much that half of our Layout is a Model of CASS SCENIC RR with many handcrafted Custom Made Buildings that are at CASS.. We even did the CASS Company Store. And have Custom Made CASS SCENIC RR Passenger Cars. Very Nice Video.
Where is he now I haven't seen him playing with the train lately ?
Sadly Jim is no longer with us, and it's apparant this video was shot some years ago. Fifteen years? Twenty years? All of Jim's pointers are just as valid today as they were then, the only thing I'd part company with Jim on is the value of the locomotive. The value of Lionel's "generic" 2-6-4 locomotives has dropped precipitously in the past decade so unless the locomotive is in 'brand new in-the-box with all its papers" condition it's no sin if you wish to do a complete repaint on your locomotive. You can even do a custom paint job if you want. Hey, I've been doing it to run of the mill Post-War Hudsons to the admiration of fellow club members. Again, let me reiterate I ONLY do repaints on marginal condition units, not pristine ones.
Very nice!
I wonder if anybody made a layout of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania or Weirton West Virginia Weirton Steel
10:00 Sublime green train that is beautiful
I would love to see a Las Vegas layout or some type of steel mill layout
great video and easy to understand and no elevator music.
An exit that was a class act all the way through! You left at the top of your form Rich, the ONLY way to do it! Well done!
Great layout Gary. I love your scale T1 powered passenger train. Thanks for including the video of 765 climbing Horseshoe curve. Again I thank you for making my day. Best wishes, and happy new year.
Absolutely incredible craftswomanship! I'm speechless! Well done Linda, you've sent us all back to school!
That trestle bridge is a brilliant idea.
Melgar, I love the CONN comet cars--will you sell them?
Nice layout.
This Putnam is it in Putnam County WV?
@@gusshadleythelunaticfromar7125 I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure he lives in New Jersey somewhere.
No, the New York Central's Putnam division ran from the Bronx (NYC) through Westchester County (North of NYC) to Putnam County NY. Peter C's a Bronx native and very familiar with the Putnam Division. I used to live in New Jersey somewhere! 🤣
Awesome layout's!!!
Great video!
Terrific layout. Jim has a great outlook on how he wants to enjoy the hobby.
Nice
I still have a Lionel steamer from the 50’s been in the family ever since just ran it a week ago. Great videos
I must say, this is impressive! This is something I want someday! Thank you Marty.
Love Jim's educational videos.......
Love these tutorials.....great stuff
Wow!!! What happened to his layout, i hope it was preserved. For many more to enjoy
Completely captivating aand utterly charming! Thanks for posting!
Jim.....do you have a wiring diagram for the remote to the track? My dads finally rotted the wires and im not sure how its righed to add the new wire.
Please recommend someone reputable that can do this mod for me.

Great layouts! I was only able to manage a small N gauge layout this year. O gauge will come out next year though. Cheers!
Absolutely wonderful!
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Cool christmas layouts!!!!
Very nice, indeed; thank you for posting! I remember visiting the layout many times myself. I just have a minor correction for anyone interested in finding its new location. Its new home is called the Cincinnati Union Terminal, not "station". That building also has an amazing history, that is well worth investigating, all on its own.
Thank you for a great easy to follow video! Very useful info!
Thanks for this learning experience, you are very detailed and easy to listen to.
Do you have a video for a 445 Switch Tower repair?
@@ralphreda1969 No, we don’t. But I’ll bet if you asked that question on the OGR Forum ( ogrforum.com/ ) you would get some help with that.
I can not believe I am watching this. My best friend shared this with me today since he knew I was looking for it. Its been probably 30 years since this was filmed. It was an O Gauge Railroading Christmas special that I never thought would air. I have looked everywhere for it. Jim, Rich and I all went down to CG&E to film this. I was probably 10/12 years old then. After hours I got the run the trains so Rich could get slower and close up shots. Brings back so many memories. Jim Barrett passed away a few years ago and I am not sure the status of Rich Melvin.
@@andrewmorris6346 Andrew, I am alive and well! I’m so glad you found this and was able to watch it. I sure miss Jim. Rich Melvin
@@OGRUA-cam you should consider creating an updated video showing the layout as it is today at the Cincinnati Museum Center. We're open through 1/6/25 this season.
@ We have such a video! In fact, the Museum Center used to sell it on DVD and Blu-ray in the gift shop. Since you work there, would you contact me via email? Use rich at ogaugerr.com for the address. Thanks.
I was looking for a tutorial to how to clean #2018 but 2026 is the same so thanks❤
What kind of train is the green train at 640
Awesome, merry Christmas guys
Wow
Thanks for posting this again. I miss working in this building and having this display.
I have many model railways over the years and must say that this railway is near the top of the list. For me it's is not just about models. It is about people, tradition, and shear joy. Thank you to the staff and volunteers. Well done to the company for being so publicly spirited.
Interesting how they use a third rail system. I am curious why and how the hook ups on the locomotives work.
@@franciscoppola1129 The 3rd rail carries DC current. It is directly connected to the motor(s) in the locomotives. Speed is controlled by varying the voltage. Direction is controlled by changing the polarity of the DC voltage. The ground side of the circuit is through the rails. This was a very common control method in the early days of model railroading because it is so simple. DC voltage is very easy to control, and nothing extra is required inside the locomotive.
@ I understand the specifics of DC what I was wondering was how the pick up shoes are mounted to the locomotives and tenders
I thought I spied Mr. Barrett in the background at about the 4 minute mark! Great video!
Thank you.
This club still around?
LOL. You didn’t watch the whole video. Yes, it’s still active. Information is at the end of the video.
Would have thought that you'd have used Christmas music for the background.
@@w.rustylane5650 That’s good point, but finding good Christmas music that doesn’t have copyright issues is tough.
Fantastic Christmas layout.
You fine folks at OGR do a tremendous job of presenting these layout videos. They are such a treat to view. Thank you and Merry Christmas to each and every one of you. 🎄🧑🎄
@@jimmelchin1531 Thanks, Jim! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
8:53 That turntable is too short for that steamer. The rear truck of the tender is off the back of it.
