Ship Cemetery in Muynak: Ghosts of the Aral Sea
This is the Ship Cemetery in Muynak, Karakalpakstan, in the Western part of Uzbekistan. Muynak (also spelled Moynak) used to be a very important fishing town at the shores of the Aral Sea.
But about 60 years ago, the Aral Sea started shrinking and Muynak was slowly getting farther and farther away from the lake it once depended on.
Instead of the water, Muynak is now surrounded by desert. A few rusting ships stand as haunting reminders that a vast lake once thrived here. Join me and let's explore the Muynak Ship Graveyard together.

In Moynak not only we check the place where all those old ships are, but I will also show you my hotel room (rather funny, I ha...

I want lagman as well now 😊. Good to see you in Uzbekistan 🇺🇿
It was very tasty, that's for sure 😊 Loved my time in Uzbekistan. Will definitely visit again soon 🤩🇺🇿 Hope you enjoy the videos 😊🇺🇿🇺🇿
You were so close to the best lagman it was right next to this two story restaurants this one is also not bad,
I actually loved this one. Still remember the taste. Next time I will try the one you're talking about, too. Thanks for the tip! 🤩 Hope you enjoy the videos 🇺🇿🇺🇿
It’s ur buddy flip Now I can see all over the world through ur video’s happy that I met u in person 🤜🏻🤛🏻😊
Hey, Flip, thank you so much! I am very happy that I met you, too! Such fun memories, my friend! Hope to see you soon one day 😊
I SAW YOU
Thank you for the comment! Where have you seen me? Have we talked? More details, mate 😎🤩
Use your visa card anywhere thats what I do 100% restaurants pepsi shops accept it no issues even cash out directly from card dont stress about it banking is more advanced than you think trust me im from USA
I believe you. That piece of "information" I gave in the video didn't age well at all. I guess it was different in the past, but now cards are being accepted everywhere. I've had old info, and also the video is not brand new 😋 Thanks for the input and hope I'll see you around.
I am positively surprised of how nicely you pronounce the “letter O” in Uzbek language! Enjoy and visit our country more frequently!
Aww, that's so nice of you, mate! I am sure I mispronounced a lot of names, but it happens 😆 I have loads of videos from Uzbekistan. Hope you'll enjoy them! 🤩🇺🇿🇺🇿🇺🇿
anyone knows “the name of the background music” in the Intro part?
Yes, I do know the song's title 😅 It's the band French Fuse with the song "Somewhere Fuse". Cheers!
@@WhereDoWeTravelNow thank you my friend! Be safe!
Beutiful underground journey in Tashkent. How to book metro ticket. Is there any app for this?
When I was there, I think there wasn't any app. Maybe in the meantime? Anyway, you can always do it the old fashioned way, like I did: there's a ticket counter in every station 🎟️
If you really wanna comeback to Uzbekistan for traveling I never hesitate to join you. 👍🏻👍
Sounds amazing, mate! Would be a pleasure 🤩🇺🇿
New Yorkers: this has got to be fake, no way the metro station is that clean 😅
Pretty damn clean and VERY safe. Compared to NY or LA it's probably the safest place on Earth 😂
Welcome to Uzbekistan.
Thank you so much 😊🤩🇺🇿🇺🇿
I bet if you went far enough into the desert, you would come across ship wreaks that were once at the bottom of the sea. Very interesting video.👍👍👍👍👍👍
He could have explored more, deeper in the desert, but probably it's not easy to get there and you're just alone.. still would have been fun for us 😂😂
Thank you so much for the awesome comment! I bet it would have been an adventure. Glad you enjoyed it anyway 😎🇺🇿
What a shame. Very interesting video.
Glad you enjoyed it. But yes, you are right, a very sad reality...
They should flood it again.
Rediverting the rivers would definitely help. Not sure it will happen anytime soon though
@@WhereDoWeTravelNow I doubt they will try it, so much time has passed, but maybe... guess it's worth a try. :)
If this doesn't tell you how arrogant communist are you are blind.
In a lot of communist countries long hair was frowned upon because it was seen as being too alternative and shit. I'm pretty sure this dude ain't no communist 😂😂
🤪🤣🤣
This is the kind of video that makes your heart sink. I recently reread the story of the Aral Sea and I don't see any hope for the future, there are too many pesticides and poisons in the dust there to allow the creation of a healthy environment. Congratulations for the video and presentation! I almost felt the wind and the dust :) ...and the sadness of the place.
Many thanks for your awesome comment! It's a sad place with a sad history. Can't believe people would take such a decision, knowing from the beginning the lake would just disappear. I've read that the Soviets were actually surprised it took so long. They expected the Aral Sea to be gone in just a few years, and not decades. So it's not like they didn't know what they were doing by diverting the rivers. Anyway, a unique experience in the end. Had an interesting time, to say the least.
Superb April's comment! I thought it was a very interesting and very sad video. The changes over time were overwhelming and revolting, but none of those who had the power to do anything did. It's depressing.
Yeah, it's the sad kind of travel, but it was a unique experience at the same time. I'm glad I made it there
I can't help thinking how this video would have looked if you had shot it from the Aral Sea. You would probably have arranged for a fisherman to go for a boat ride in the sea, you would have listened to Modern Talking or something similar together and you would have continued to complain about the wind messing up your filming. But now it seems that the last trace of DNA left from the Aral Sea is in the canned fish exhibited at the museum. Big like also for the Discovery Channel-ish vibe in some moments... Hello, Discovery Channel, is anyone watching? And spectacular photos! 🌊⛵️🐟🦈
Thanks a lot! Nicely put with the Aral Sea DNA in the fish cans haha Would be a pretty cool video idea actually, that with the fisherman and the boat ride. Maybe in some centuries when the Aral Sea gets back to its original size.
❤
Many thanks 😊🤝
Welcome , enjoy ypur travel
Thanks a lot, mate! Had an awesome time in Uzbekistan 🇺🇿
1:38 Why are you farting? hahahaha wtf 1:39
Yeah bro, that's exactly what I was doing 🤔
Wooow
Many thanks 😍🤝🇺🇿
I am uzbek but I dont agree with you. Cards are really popular here. I live in the Tashkent too .I don't keep any cash with even when I go to the market. Card is available everywhere
I guess that didn't age well. Of course these things change over time. I've read some articles about cards in Uzbekistan, maybe a few years back it was a different story. Hope you enjoyed the video though 🤩🇺🇿
Yes I like your video 😊 it deserves like❤️
No one station of Yunusobod line, except of Yunus Rajabi, alas. You have missed the Bodomzor station of that line. It is also one of the best metro station of our city. Very sad sitiation in our metro with illumination because of the deficit of electricity. You can see a lot of turned off lamps, that's why the most of stations are so dark. They would've be yet more beautiful with full illumination.
I have missed a lot of stations, unfortunately. There are a lot of them, and too little time. Next time I'm in the city I will try to check a few more, including Bodomzor :)
Good video
Thanks for the visit. Glad you enjoyed it 🤩🇺🇿🇺🇿
Thanks

I'll be in Riga in January for one week, this video it's from which month? By the way, was very cold that day? P.S: Werder Bremen >>>> HSV
@@pronosticosdeportivos9517 I think, I'm not sure, the video was filmed in December, like early days probably. Anyway, it's always a gamble with the weather in the Baltic countries. If you looked just a few videos back, when I was still in Estonia, there was a pleasant minus 22 Celsius. And lots of snow!! One week later, rather shitty weather and about plus/minus 2. So there's no way to tell if you're gonna have a real winter in January or just some lousy rainy British kind of experience. Let me know how it went! And watch some more Baltic content because.. why not? Haha! Thank you for the Werder comment, by the way 🤩

Yeah, kind of tasted like cheese balls. I would like to find it here in Austria or in Europe in general as well. I will look for it. Awesome local experience there 😊
Welcome to my country! just saw the thumbnail and subscribed immediately! p.s. Gafur Gulom - not Golum)) He was a great Uzbek poet

Brno is best 👍
in Uzbekistan you can use debit cards. In many big supermarkets like 'Korzinka', you can buy with visa or mastercard
Some outdated info on my part. Also, I didn't mean to say there's no way to use the card in the country. Just wanted to say it's not bad to have some cash, as there are places that may not take cards. Hope you enjoyed the video anyway 😊🇺🇿
