I want her to watch the 1995 Pride and Prejudice series. While Matthew Macfayden's Darcy is probably my favorite, the 1995 version does a better job of explaining their motivations and inner thoughts and is more accurate to the book.

Definitely recommend you watch Sense & Sensibility (1995) as well, its obviously a lot older that this/the pride and prejudice movie, but its still super enjoyable

Emma is the story of a smart young girl with too much time on her hands and an active imagination. Harriets parentage is unknown, but all her needs are payed for and she is even upgraded to having her own room at the boarding school she stays at. That makes Emma think her father must be a gentleman (a man who does not work, but owns an estate and rents out land to farmers) and that would make Harriet a gentleman's daughter just like Emma. In all her goodwill she tries to 'improve' Harriet to have manners worthy of a gentleman's daughter so she can hook up with a man of high status and her and Emma can be in the same social circle together forever. Robert Martin, who is a farmer, just doesn't run in those same social circles. He spends his life in a very different way, working outside rather than reading, playing music and going to dinner parties. Emma genuinely thinks he just can't be a good match for the idea of Harriet that she has made up in her mind. She thinks that a farmer and her best friend simply cannot have anything in common. Besides, she feels like its a 'waste' that Harriet, who she thinks should be with a wealthy, high status man, would 'settle' for a farmer. I think these ideas of not dating outside of your socioeconomic circle still exist, but they aren't explicitly accepted and upheld as the norm anymore.

27:05 and 36:22. The fact that lizzie plays the same melody as the Darcy's sister i think is a heavily implications just how much "he told her about Elizabeth". She quite literally learned the same melody. Also i might be wrong but i think, both moments are heavily important for their realitionship in general. Lady Catherine's dinner might be the moment he has decided he wants to marry her whereas the scene with sister is the first time she sees him as someone pleasant and not prideful

Emma is in love with Knightley, but thinks Knightley wants to be with Harriet. Knightley is in love with Emma, but thinks Emma wants to be with Frank Churchill. When Knightley hears Frank is engaged to Jane, he runs over to see if he might have a chance. Emma thinks he is going to tell her he wants to be with Harriet and can't bear to hear it. She really didn't realise! Emma has decided that she wants to marry Mr. Knightley, but she fears that he's about to confess his love for Harriet and so she tries to stop him from speaking. Total mess 🤣

Knightley letting Emma know how disappointed he is in her while being so in love with her is one of my favourite scenes. I actually think I might like this version of the scene most out of all the Emma adaptations - Johnny and Anya are both making very distinct choices in how they acted in the moment and it's great to see the emotions their characters are feeling.

The Woodhouses always sit in the first pew in church, as they are so important in town, which is why it's very dramatic that a total stranger is in their spot - and then that means the Woodhouses need to sit in the second pew, which is someone ELSE'S spot, and so on. Madness!

A little late to the party, but regarding the older P&P miniseries, that is also amazing and I highly recommend watching it. I think what makes the P&P 2005 film appeal more to some people is the faster pacing and style. They also updated the family dynamics to be a bit warmer and more familiar to modern audiences, although this strays a bit from the book. The miniseries is more faithful to the book, especially in regard to the family dynamic being a bit colder and also regarding the family’s wealth. The 2005 film makes the Bennet family appear poor, or not very well off. In reality, they are very well off compared to the average person but they are at the lower end of high society. The mini series more reflects the status of the Bennet family being wealthier, whereas the 2005 film changed this to be less off putting to modern audiences (some people would’ve been confused about why the family is treated as “poor” when they still have a very nice home and plenty of servants). Basically, the miniseries is a more faithful book adaptation, and the film more adapts the spirit and overall story of the novel with more liberties taken. Both are great, although I slightly prefer the miniseries. As an aside, your hair looks beautiful and I loved your commentary!

By the final "Mrs. Darcy" scene, they are already married. They are unchaperoned at his estate, in loungewear, and kissing. I understand your disappointment at not seeing the wedding, though. The British version actually left out that final scene because they believed it wasn't clear enough that they were married, and thought audiences would be scandalized by the kiss.

So...Mr Darcy is an introvert and that makes him socially awkward, plus all the things he went through with his family and mr Whickam made him more on guard with other people. You can see it since the begining of the movie, he is quiet, very introspective, I also think that being in big crowds makes him more anxious and despite him saying that Jane is the "most handsome girl in the room", ever since he entered the ball in the begining he couldn't take his eyes off of Elizabeth, now...in my opinion he fell in love at first sight and we can see it by paying atention at the way he steals glances at her everytime he can, the imediate and awkward stand up greeting/aknowledge when she comes to the bingley's house, the lovesick look he has throughout the entire film, and many more. But him being introvert and shy made it difficult for him to express his feelings by talking, but if you see his actions and the way he listens to her opinions and takes them to improve himself is so awesome and incredible, it shows such a great sense of maturity. If you pay attention to their dialogues, every time elizabeth tells him what she likes or dislikes in a man, the next time they encounter he tries so hard to be the man she likes. For example that time when she tells him that the first thing that'll encourage afection is dancing and then in the next ball he dances with her. She also tells him in another occasion to practice talking to other people and in the next scene you can see him doing exactly that by saying "This is a charming house" and asking her "don't you love weather?" He also tried to propose to her the first time he visited her and there was no one in the house, but then anxiety hits him and he runs!!! He is such a cute person. Every single time this man TRIES SO HARD even though he is a introvert/socially awkward person through and through, which makes im stumble with words and saying things he didn't mean, because he couldn't express the right words!

I suggest that you also watch the 1995 BBC mini series starring Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. Honestly I find the 1995 mini series superior to the 2005 just because the latter has, imho, too much of a modern romcom feel, while the mini series is faithful to the book and better gives the impression to witness events as they would unfold at the end of the 18th century with the proper etiquette of the higher social spheres. The cinematography in the 2005 movie is great but the story telling and faithfulness to the book, are superior in the mini series. Colin Firth's Darcy is more convincing in his depiction of how a young man of his time and upbringing would behave. Jennifer Ehle in the role of Lizzy Bennett also is very satisfying.
