In this video we show you a typical suspension Dyno curve. Then we run our 4 rear shock options on the shock Dyno and compare both the shape of the curve to make sure it matches our requirements, AND how well the shocks adjust when we tune them.

@@jakelutz22 hi Jake. I’m a fan of the fox float series of shocks. I’ve seen too many problems, the seal and wiper design is very very high friction and the bodies anodized aluminum are prone to damage in competition use causing constant air leaks. Also air as a spring is dramatically progressive so we struggle with a rebound calibration to work well at the top of the shock travel versus the bottom of the shock travel. Too many problems to overcome that we don’t have with a conventional coil over.

Hi. Is it a problem to add only one (1) stiffer torsion spring. My problem is going with both stiffer torsion springs will be way too stiff.

What spring do u recommend for 450 lbs ? Vk540 2017
Your video is the most informative that I have ever seen pertaining to how a snowmobile suspension shock system works. Thank you so much. I sprung for aftermarket shocks (Elka and Exit) and have been struggling to adjust the shocks to be at least better than OEM. Still not there but hopefully your videos will help me to find the sweetspot. Hopefully the spring selection and damping range was built properly for my use. Again, many thank you's. And yes I subscribed.

John, when you're trying new rear torsion springs for a sled, no you initially try setting the sag with the adjuster set to the 'middle' allowing for adjustment in both directions? I se online guys throwing springs at sleds but no mention of where the adjuster is. Like you mention in the video, the sag may be OK for a 'light situation' but if you're maxxed out on the adjustment in either direction in a lightly or loaded condition, you may not have any more adjustment.
Lots of xrs's with KYb's have rebound adjustment

@@bennyb6071 Hey Benny, No I didn’t care for them at all. The QS3’s were a harsh ride IMO no matter what I did and it’s due to lacking rebound adjustment. I was very disappointed with the offering of the Fox QS3’s on one of Cats highest priced sleds. If it came with the FOX QS3R’s as standard equipment I could have worked with them as they have rebound. The QS3’s do not. Coming off of Skidoo since 2007 and this being my first Arctic Cat, I can now say with the Elka Stage 5’s installed the T-cat rides as good as my XRS 900T with R-motion. That’s all the Cat needs to do is offer a better quality shock on their high end T-cat. Take Care ❄

Great information. I've just recieved some ski springs, rear center shock spring and an adjustable limiter strap for my XRS. That's about all I had in the budget at the moment but I feel like a rear shock with some rebound adjustability is in my future. Look forward to trying out your products this winter!

Videos are great! Can you do a 22 polaris xcr? A lot of people are not happy with the suspension on them.
If you haven't done anything yet I just put in the front track spring from the 2018 XCR which is a 95/300 and the new Polaris 14.4 lb trap springs for the rear of my 2020 xc 850👍👍

due to my lack of research i went with skidoo 1.66/80 as a 280 pound rider this isnt enough torsion. im a semi aggressive trail ridder on a 2020 back country 850. ill try these but ill probably be calling you
I'm 185 out of the shower & that spring won't do it 4 me on my 22 Renegade XRS Competition. The dealers only know & go w that. John is point on! Went w the 194's for the Rmotion X Suspension. Got to keep in mind Fuel Caddy, Tunnel Bag, snow/ice packed in, Full Tank of fuel, any other accessorie add on, Riding Gear... also I added Hygear spacers along w new Torsion Springs.
As a 6'7 300 lbs rider the torsion spring you guys have sent to me have given me a far better and planted ride that is a 100% improvement. Thank you so very much for the video and time you guys have given .

Can you tell me what size of spring I should consider for a 2016 Renegade 800 XRS. I am 225-230 and my wife would like to ride along on the 2-up seat we purchased and she is 125 so let’s say with gear 400 pounds. When I take the sled out myself I have the adjustments maxed but the sled still wants to ride close to the ground with the flap dragging, no wife on the sled as of yet. Thanks so much - Tim

Man, I’m really glad I found this. Bought an xrs and have really been trying to learn how everything was supposed to work so I can set it up for myself and make the right adjustments. Would it be too much trouble to ask how to tune the preload of the center shock and limiter for a snowmobile? This is the information that I'm finding hardest to find.

I'm waiting on delivery of a Sidwinder XTX 146 and am researching suspension springs. Information is hard to find even on the I-net. Thus stumbling on your site has proven valuable. Based on my findings thus far, AC/Yamaha's STOCK spring rating is 0.394" SQ, - 90Deg. Angle - 165 LB. They offer a upgrade rated 0.405" SQ, - 85Deg. Angle - 191 LB. I have a friend with a AC racing sled 2017, Model 600SX . I was only able to measure the long arm at 0.437" SQ. I have not found any additional info on that spring. My reason for doing this research is - I will be building a rack on the back of the tunnel to carry my ice fishing gear. I'm 200 lb, by the time I'm dressed, probably 220 to 225 lb. The fishing gear - auger, rods, tackle, sonar, heater, propane, etc going in the rack will probably weigh 60 to 80 lbs. So, I pretty sure the stock spring would be replaced.

Yea, but you will get 'sticky' numbers. Buy a set of dollies. We use Qualipieces, they are about the best we have seen. We stock them if you need them.

Hi Brandon. Our MXZ 850 or MXZ 800 with Full Elka Stage 5 set up is basically untouchable in groomed trails.
Generally, you should get a static sag measurement, and then determine the amount of rider sag from the static sag measurement ... rider sag should not be determined from an uncompressed suspension, as you've demonstrated here. Also, as you point out, rider sag should be measured with the rider in full gear, as well as with anything else you plan to carry. Something this video lacks is how to determine proper sag (you could at least mention whether the sled manufacture has a recommending range, and where one can look to find this info). I don't know if you intend to make a video showing what adjustments should be made to bring the sag into the manufacturer's recommended range, but if not, you also left out how to adjust spring pre-load, and what effects will occur with adjustments to each shock in the skid.
I disagree completely. We ALWAYS check rider sag from completely topped up. We also measure static sag as you have indicated (difference between topped up and vehicle only). Comparing the static sag to the rider sag can tell us lots about the rate of the spring and amount of preload required to hit sag. We posted a second video a few hours that does indeed show us adjusting the preload and it's effect on the spring to hit target sag. I do however appreciate all your negative comments and i will try to do better next time.
Coming from the dirt bike works we always check static sag first, then go off of that number to get the sag we want, agree you need a rider in full gear and sled with all the accessories to get a good set up
Yes I am with you there. I lift sled let it settle back down to resting position and go from there. I got that way from a BRP rep. and have always done it that way with good luck. I am sure there are a few good ways as long as you do it the same all the time you will still get the same result. Even if you do it his way vs mine it will be within the range anyway. From lifted off the ground to sitting on the ground I only loose about 1/2" so if your range is 2-3 of sag then even with that 1/2 loss still in the window. Just my thoughts and it's always worked for me.
