We Have a Winner! Gunstock Giveaway Reveal!
I announce the winner of the gunstock for Meta Quest 3 giveaway in this video! Stay tuned!
All parts of this project can be printed using a standard FDM printer right at home. However, I chose to print the PA12 model using
PCB Way's 3D Printing Service www.pcbway.com/
ensuring a high-quality finish and enhanced durability. The only additional items you need to purchase are magnets to complete the assembly.
This stock is not just any accessory; it's engineered for performance and comfort, featuring an ultra-lightweight design that weighs in at under 120 grams, thanks to advanced topology optimization using generative design techniques.
One of the standout features of this gunstock is how the controllers securely attach using the battery lid opening, ensuring they click firmly into place. This design keeps everything stable during intense gaming sessions. The stock also boasts an adjustable length, allowing you to customize it for your comfort and gameplay style. A soft TPU rubber shoulder pad enhances the experience, making it comfortable to hold for extended periods.
For aiming precision, I've included an adjustable cheek guard that lets you rest your cheek against it to align with your eye level perfectly. Plus, the stock can split down the middle using magnets, giving you the freedom to use your hands independently without needing to let go of the stock-perfect for quick adjustments or when you want to navigate menus.

    Love this project! So many 3D prints are just knick knacks but this is a truly functional print. I left a comment on Maker World…. Do you have any advice as to build plate orientation for each part in order to get the best result? Thanks!

      The malerworld profiles should be already in the ideal orientation. If u download the 3mf and import it that should give u all the info needed. Also if u have bambu studio it includes support blockers etc. Thanks for your kind words 😁

      @Ibuiltathing I will wait then, I really love to see how it tuned out, but hate my rating on it. I am struggling to create an "easy" deej enclosure myself, after work ... 😵‍💫 (Electrician/C-Developer, not Designer) Make sure you hit the "notify people" on the update on makerworld, so people will see the improvements even if they not monitoring the model 👍 And thanks for the effort, this would be something I would never be able to do by myself, especially since I only use the free version of Fusion or trying to like freecad....

    A colleague has printed it and I have two problems with it. First the back controller does not fit snugly into the backgrip, so your back hand slides very close to your cheek. The second problem is that the front can easily connect with the magnet to the other hand sideways when you are wearing the headset and then your gun is not accurate in VR. So I am not super enthusiast about it.

    • @Ibuiltathing
      @Ibuiltathing 2 дні тому

      The alignment is done by you. I kept it that way because for angled Grips I want to be able to tilt it. At the end it's a passion part I made for me and my specific needs and preferences. The second problem I haven't had. But I use a sls sintered one. That why it might be no Issue for me 🤔 But what exacly do you mean? Does it slide by it self?

    • @ypmaklaes7218
      @ypmaklaes7218 2 дні тому

      @Ibuiltathing To shoot straight your hands need to have the same angle. But this is difficult with the headset on when you click on the magnet. For me, this is a design flaw. I am sorry, I am not a designer, but a user and I am not so enthusiastic about it.

    • @Ibuiltathing
      @Ibuiltathing 2 дні тому

      Oh. Please don't appologize ! I did not mean to invalidate your oppinion or defend. It's absolutely fine if u dont like it 😊 Everybody has his own preferences. I also realy get the people who saw they want to disconnect the Controller and not split the stock and all the others. And I love that people give their oppinion and Suggestions or even just crittic on it. That's what makes a makercomunity greate at the end.

    something i learned from Morley Kert, making holes in 3d prints isn't always the best option for weight reduction/ filament saving. Because of the walls that need to be filled instead of infill, it actually increases print time. I believe that was in this video. ua-cam.com/video/hw6cy0iAFCc/v-deo.html

    • @Ibuiltathing
      @Ibuiltathing 5 днів тому

      True! since i modeled the part for SLS, holes actually help (because there is no infill in sls). Thats why the FDM ones have them as well

    Not sure if the giveaway has happened yet... but the reason I should win is that I absolutely LOVE your design and engineering on this, the amount of thought and effort really shows. I would love to use this for Exfilzone (which I'm currently addicted to). But more importantly, I will give 50 steam games out randomly to people who commented (I have been a member to humblebundle and other services for a long time, so I got lots of good game keys). So if I win, lots of people win! :) P.S - I could also give the 50 steam keys to 'I built a thing' so he can then give them out (if preferred).

    Ich war gerade auf der Suche nach einem Gunstock den ich drucken kann und bin auf dein Video gestoßen. Abseits von dem sehr geilen Gunstock ist deine Art zu präsentieren und erklären 10/10! Als Systemintegrator bin ich technisch natürlich nicht unbewandert aber von CAD und Parametic Design hab ich kaum plan. Der Stock wird auf jeden Fall gedruckt. Eine Sache wär mmn. noch nice to have: Eine Halterung für eine Handschlaufe o.a. wie man es von Silikonhüllen für die Quest 3 Controller kennt. Das würde das einstellen nochmal einfacher machen und wenn man sich mal dran gewöhnt hat Handschlaufen zu haben möchte man diese nicht missen

    • @Ibuiltathing
      @Ibuiltathing 5 днів тому

      Was genau meinst du mit Handschlaufen? Die Gripschlaufen das man den Contorller los lassen kann und sie an den Handflächen bleiben?

    • @lxnesamurai.3485
      @lxnesamurai.3485 2 дні тому

      @@Ibuiltathing Ja genau die meine ich - gibt ja welche zu kaufen die man via Gummierung u.o batteriefach anbringt - aber 2 Ösen für ne DIY Lösung außerhalb der Halterung wären auch super. Habe den Stock angefangen zu drucken auf dem X1C - leider ist er direkt kaputt gegangen und ander Layerlinie beim einsetzen des Controllers gebrochen. Komischerweise war die Öffnung für den Controller auch sichtlich zu eng Müsste mit einem anderen PETG schauen ob es dann besser ist, wobei das Filament neu gewesen ist und von mir getrocknet wurde.

    • @Ibuiltathing
      @Ibuiltathing 2 дні тому

      Jeder Drucker, auch der x1c hat seinen eigenen dinensionsfehler. Manche printen en bißchen enger andere weiter. Ich würde empfehlen mal nur den cup zu drucken und den gabz leicht hoch zu skalieren. Testen bis es passt und dann die Skalierung auf alles übertragen. Die Daten sind sozusagen auf meinen Drucker kalibriert. Zusätzlich haben sie quest Teile auch ne Toleranz. Ziemlich krass sogar. Gab für nen freund einen gedruckt und musste auch ein wenig hoch skalieren.

    • @lxnesamurai.3485

    I printed the rear stock in petg-gf and doing light stress test it snapped luckily I didn't print everything else. So if I recalled you ended up printing yours in resin? Which resin did you use and did you leave the model solid or did you hollow it out and what thickness? Thanks Oh the TPU parts printed beautifully.

    • @Ibuiltathing
      @Ibuiltathing 13 днів тому

      Hey there. Contrary to puplic oppinion gf or cf materials are actually weaker than the not loaded materials. That is why it snapped. I have these parts printed in pla for Tests and they still hold up. Gf or cf only increases stiffness but decreases the breakingforce quite significantly. The added fiber lays down in extrudibg Direktion. This takes away Lots of bonding surface for the actual Polymer so layer adhesion is worse. Try normal petg. I did not print in resin. I used sls (Laser sintering) for it. The material I used was pa12. U can get that with Services like pcb way or I.materialise reletively cheap. Hope that helps 😁

    I am new to Fusion have made a couple small thing usually modified mounting hardware for something, this was a great oversight onto generative design with constraints and forces to help me do things like make some parts and have it figure out how to best connect them in a way I can FDM print without needing to sketch up how I am going to join parts together. I am going to print the shoulder bump stock in TPU as-well, that was a great choice :)

    Jaw dropping! Great editing! Amazing design! Undeniable highest class professionalism! Is there a way to print this design with holders for different brands? I'd really like to get your gunstock but I have Vive controllers.

    if possible, wouldn't it be good if there was some way to store the original battery cover while you were using the stock, to save losing them? sorry if someone else has suggested this already.

      That is an awsome idea ! What do you think. Should you store them on the stock it self ? I will look into that when I push out the fixes

      @@Ibuiltathing for me, yeah I think on the stock somehow would be best.

    Could you upload a version without the weight reduction? I prefer it when a rod has some weight, and since I will be printing with polycarbonate or PETG, it should be quite strong. Or if I upload the STEP file, I could adjust it myself.

      What exacly do you mean? Without the generative design or just without the hollowed part on the stock it self?
