The Best DIY VR-Gunstock you CAN'T buy! ( But Print at home) for the Meta Quest 3
Create Your Own Virtual Reality Gunstock for Meta Quest 3!
All parts of this project can be printed using a standard FDM printer right at home. However, I chose to print the PA12 model using
PCB Way's 3D Printing Service www.pcbway.com/
ensuring a high-quality finish and enhanced durability. The only additional items you need to purchase are magnets to complete the assembly.
In this video, I dive into designing an innovative virtual reality gunstock for the Meta Quest 3.
This gunstock is not just any accessory; it's engineered for performance and comfort, featuring an ultra-lightweight design that weighs in at under 120 grams, thanks to advanced topology optimization using generative design techniques.
One of the standout features of this gunstock is how the controllers securely attach using the battery lid opening, ensuring they click firmly into place. This design keeps everything stable during intense gaming sessions. The gunstock also boasts an adjustable length, allowing you to customize it for your comfort and gameplay style. A soft TPU rubber shoulder pad enhances the experience, making it comfortable to hold for extended periods.
For aiming precision, I’ve included an adjustable cheek guard that lets you rest your cheek against it to align with your eye level perfectly. Plus, the gunstock can split down the middle using magnets, giving you the freedom to use your hands independently without needing to let go of the stock-perfect for quick adjustments or when you want to navigate menus.

Thanks PcbWay for sponsoring this video. www.pcbway.com/ In this video, I create a special gift for my girlfriend-3D printed titanium earrings. There’s one catch: she only wears gold jewelry! After a failed attempt at gold plating, I had to switch gears and find another solution to give them that golden shine. Watch as I polish the titanium, attempt the gold plating (spoiler: disaster!), and fi...

If you look up and watch a lot of pro VR shooter gamers. None of them use a physical stalk. They learned to use the virual stock. they even put up videos on how.
I get your point. That exacly the reason I need one. U saw my gameplay. Do I strike u as a pro vr shooter Player ? 😅 But on the serious side. For me it's much more about emertion than getting good. I simply wana have fun 😋
Damn, how do you have only 700 subscribers? both the video and the stock are amazing!
Building a youtubechanel from scratch takes time 😅
I wonder if battery cavity lids are the same for Q2 and Q3 and if it can be used with Q2. I guess im about to find out. Also makerwold page lacks any info about magnets, no link or info, many people would be glad if u share that information. U can find it out on ur own by simply measuring place for its attachment though.
They are actually as far as I know
@Ibuiltathing if so, that would be great
I just looked it up. They seem to be slightly different. But maybe try and let us know. Maybe my Design has enough wiggleroom. Cut the cup and print ut seperatly to test. I would love to Adapt them but u Don't have the Controllers to do so
as far as I know the lids on the quest 2 controllers are different and don't have any notches to hold on to
If anyone sends me some quest 2 Covers I rework the Design. Of course u getting it back (with a stock)
Such quality content! and reasonable humor 😜
Bravo to the video host and the video's editor.
Jesus... you even did alignment constrains in your ratchet design, you are so thoughtfull. Even big companies forget to add features like that. You are a awesome maker and content creator, a true hidden gem!
only 750 subscribers? how?! your content is so good, I can't believe my eyes.
Aw man, other chanels with similar names are overshadowing you, that's really sad... I truly hope you overcome this and get as famous as them.
First of all great job! I also work in Fusion 360 and always wanted to try generative design. Now I have the motivation thanks to you. I need this gunstock because I am a VR enthusiast (since Oculus Rift CV1) and ASG (I see you are too :) and it would be a great rig for me. A few days ago I bought Quest 3 and got quest+ with the game Pavlov, coincidence?
Great video, I NEED this gunstock because we recently moved country and I had to sell my 3d printers, and now I can’t print this really cool design 😢 😅 Great job on the video!
Killed it! Awesome improvement to the available designs!
I had this song from ABBA playing in my head today: "Tonight the super trooper fights are gonna find me" And then I came across this video. I don't have a VR-gaming system but if that's not a hint for winning this and buying one, I don't know what is... fantastic design and video, man, keep up the good work!
Loved the way you explained the whole process❤ another great video, Brain! Keep 'em rolling!
We got a pig, named him kevin bacon, hebis currently being butchered
Now I'm hungry....
Whats with the Mark Rober music in the background and the name of the channel being so close to "I did a thing" lol lots of "Borrowing" going on here :P
Sooooo true........ I told them to stop it but they insist on copying me.... They said that. I mean they said "who are u, leave me alone , what the hell are u doing in my bathroom" but I know what they meant....
It works BUT FIRSTLY check that the negative on the power supply isn't grounded!
Correct. Only floating negative Terminals. If it has a ground to the Chassis u will short it
Ummm... Is the DC ever grounded?
@@Caderic usually the negative terminal on the power supply it's connected to the mains ground, and if you connect two power supply in series it will short the first one
@@alexandru5989 That seems like it could be problematic with just the smallest little wrong wire, wrong place. But I don't have enough information...so maybe I should look into it.
The tongue test is the best way to feel amps and volts
Amen!
Initially I thought I was watching a video from Mark Rober (due to the background music)
This works as long as the negative isnt geounded :)
Correct. Never use a direct grounded. Always floating.
Is DC ever grounded?
I'd imagine thats good for the power supply
It should be without negative impact. You do not exceed the ratings of the powersupplies in voltage. As long as your combined output and throughput does not exceed the rating of both combined powersupplies. I made sure and asked a specialist in the feeld 😁
Is it save?
If they're designed to do it
I checked the manufacturer handbook for it. You need to make sure that it has a floating ground connection and not a direct one (grounded classis). But adjustable bench power supplies have that.
would it be possible you could electroplate something for me? im willing to pay ofcourse :)
Hey there. A plastic or a metal part ?
@@Ibuiltathing its plastic :) i have plastic bells and i want hem to look like gold with a high polished finish
You are so entertaining oh my gosh.
Keepin ' it real -- thank you for posting instead of scrapping the video idea cuz of the times things got messed up! We're all human haha. Love those awards!!
Well said!
Just out of nowhere he takes us downstairs to map "five" on black ops zombies
Digging your channel! Can’t wait to see it blow up 😎
Re finding clovers: the leaves have v-shaped markings, so when searching the ground, look for a square shape among the field of triangles.
Good tip. I will definitaly try that
It would be awesome to see another titanium build, but with a purple or blue finish to it
I thought the same. I already plan a video for a multicolor titanium ring 😁
Damn, this channel is a hidden gem. Gorgeous end product and nice video production. Congrats!
Watching you trying to electroplate one portion of those had given me an idea. I wonder if instead of using tape, could you have coated them in wax. Then polish or scrape off the wax from just the areas you wanted to plate. I’ve never electroplated anything, it just sounds like a logical solution.
That's absolutely possible yes. Even a permanent or whitboard marker works. I just take tape most of the time out of no specific reason 😅 Wax is actually a very good idea.
this guy is a boss
Just found this channel and subscribing! I'm working on a similar laptop thingi as well. Always looking on what to improve with my printer!
Thank you ! Was thinking about doing more tutorials on industrial grade design and printing 😊 So thanks for the motivation

It messes up acrylic because CA (aka Cyanoacrylate) glues cure to acrylic essentially
What u can't see on the video is that I did that too. That's how I knew to warn u 😅
I once discovered I put the wrong date on an award.... minutes before I had to give it... so I feel your coin issue
Oh damn 😬 So I had it good compared to you 😅
Just found your channel because of the trophy build. I predict this channel is going to grow big if you keep the quality as high in the future. Really cool :)
Thanks for your kind words 😊 That sure gives motivation ! We plan even better stuff for the future 😁
Do I see an Arburg freeformer in the background?? 😮😮😮
You do :-) u know this machine ?
@@IbuiltathingWe are planning to get one for the lab. I was planning to email you about it. The Arburg guys told us that you have one there. I don’t remember seeing it when we visited thats why I got super excited seeing it there in your lab.
We got the new 300-x3 in this lab. My other lab still has the 200-x3
Awesome!!!!
Saw it live on the weekend. Really cool. Keep going.
Where did you find the LED light ropes?
Found them on Amazon. I will add a link to it in the description.
Sekundenkleber braucht genau eine Sekunde um deine Finger zusammen zu kleben
And 1 year for Plastic 😅
4:21 Camera operator noticed they were in the reflection.
😅
So you have lose like 200€ - 300€ shit and no one yelled at you? Of course not its the money from the little mann/women. And before you send files out test it, what hs you learn and what are you teaching dude?! Yeah the solution is don’t work with guys like you
If u think that yelling at anyone at work is ok, you should consider switching your job #Toxic_work_enviroment. Also you should take a english course if u don´t understand what "sponsor" means. I don´t consider PCB Way the "little man". But it is very nice to finally meet a perfect human that never does any mistakes XD. Maybe open a youtube chanel and show us some of your flawless work. I will be your first subscriber! Your solution is very good. I will for sure "don´t work with guys like you". Thanks for the tip 🙂
@@Ibuiltathing I don’t yell at anyone, and no one gets yelled at where I work. You’re right-if you’re getting yelled at, it’s a toxic work environment, and if possible, changing workplaces is the best move. It’s easy to say when your paycheck comes from taxes, but the reality is, a lot of people are too scared to take that step. In a professional, especially academic environment funded by taxpayers, criticism should always be constructive-there are certainly solutions for that. As for the language mistakes: it’s not helpful to attack someone personally over them. I’d suggest a course like '#RespectOverHate' to focus on having a productive discussion. What you had the chance to do was teach the audience how to do it right. It’s not about being flawless, but about designing processes efficiently and thoughtfully-including with prototypes, to avoid wasting time and resources. After all, taxpayer money funds these projects, and we have a responsibility in how we use it. Regarding PCB Way: You mentioned wasting $300 but didn’t clarify that PCB Way sponsored the project. If you’re not transparent about your product placement, I can only respond to the information I have. Transparency is important to avoid misunderstandings. #ClimateNeutral #EcoFriendly #NoWaste Thanks for the conversation.
Nice project! The design process of awards sounds interesting
We will do that video for sure than.
SUBSCRIBED!!! 👍👍👍
What you can't find anyone with a laser CNC? Just sand all three down and engrave anew?
My laser unfortunately has the wrong waveleangh and the time was to short to call a friend. But we turned them around so simply without engraving on Silber and Copper 😅
The looks really nice! 🎉 I think have to look into using som led wire at some point. 👀
The awards look really nice!!
Great design, Brain! Awesome video :)
Thanks pinky 😁
