Hello! Welcome to the channel. I'm SouthernTransportFan, a guy who loves everything to do with transport. I create bus videos for you all to watch and enjoy - some of my content is filmed in London and others in various counties in southern England.
Videos are uploaded usually 2 or 3 times a week, published at 19:00. Most will be journeys onboard buses, from N94UB’s to ALX400’s, but sometimes videos will be of a different format for example a route visual / time lapse.
I may also upload a summary video of a day out or a competition. These will usually premiere, so make sure to turn on reminders.
If you liked any of my videos, please leave a like and feel free to subscribe so you don't miss any of my future uploads, and help my channel grow.
Enjoy!

[F1] KICKDOWN MADNESS | Metroline West TE1742 (SN09CFX) | ADL Enviro400 Trident | Route U3
Friday evening + Slightly sluggish TE + Late running + Impatient driver = A proper F1 journey!
Whilst many enthusiasts focus on the A10 as an opportunity to get these ex-First TE's at Uxbridge caned, unfortunately on the day I went, all drivers on that route were snails. Although the U4 and 114 are both not so fast, the U3 still features an impressive open section with a 50 limit - thankfully I hit luck after switching to this. Having overtaken the U3 in-front, this driver already had his foot to the floor on the inbound journey, despite being considerably early.
Already knowing he was a keen sod by nature, the bus then got stuck in reverse whilst exiting the Heathrow Central stands, for 5 minutes before the start of the outbound journey. Accompanied by an awkwardly-positioned 111 then preventing anyone from moving forward, the journey started with an 8 minute delay, which for this driver was easily enough to floor the bus to pieces.
TE1742 was the loudest Tridentviro out of all I rode on the day, slightly limp and hoovery, but don't let that discourage you as the revs of the engine are still very easy to hear. No more details needed, just enjoy 16 minutes of this beast getting ragged - whether that be down Bath Road, in tight residential areas, or around Uxbridge town centre!

New here? I'm SouthernTransportFan, a transport fan living around the outskirts of Greater London. I mostly like buses, exploring both TfL and Non-London services. These will primarily be filmed in a POV-style journey video, showing what the vehicle can demonstrate and how it performs on the road. Expect high speeds, fast drivers and some good-sounding buses! Trains and trams also interest me and are filmed at times.
If you enjoyed this video - feel free to have a look around at my channel, and if you like what you see why not subscribe! About 80% of my audience isn't, so it benefits me a lot if you do. Cheers!

With DOE’s gone from all Sutton routes other than the 151, these buses are on limited time. However, until Kingston Council manage to move the pavement at Worcester Park station to allow BYD class buses to use the turning circle on the route, the 151 will remain with these as its allocation. This is not at all a fast route during the day, probably the slowest at A which is unfortunate. However,...

Here we have a bit of a special video, on a bus type that has only ever once featured before on the channel, that bus being 6007 at Arriva K&S, originally from North London. Coincidentally, this bus also holds its origins with Arriva London, but this time further South, mostly at Brixton, operating route such as the 109/137/159. Since then, it has been taken up by Masons in Bucks, who have quit...

This route, albeit pleasant, provides hardly any room for constant upshifting kickdown above 3rd, mostly using a fairly narrow curvy road alongside Derwent Water. Hence, why most people prefer to go on the open top for it. However, after seeing this driver pulling rather quickly into Keswick bus station, I had a good feeling about how he would drive, so decided to stay downstairs. Worth it too!...

I go to the Lakes annually with family, but never once before have I done the buses round there! This year though I was determined to change that with a dedicated day trip around Penrith, Windermere, Keswick etc. Probably the best bus trip I've ever had - I'm used to the scenery by now but it still amazes me, and was what made the day so special. The other major component of that 'special' fact...

The only thing about uk citaro c2 only 1 or 2 are 7700cc om936, as gal and cardiff, and ipswach all say 6370cc which is the capacity of, either om906 or om926. My local dustbin trucks also bf65 reg are 7700cc om936la with allison md3000p. Kent coach tours have a c2k with 7700cc. The c2 had a euro 5 option for early models alongside euro 6 and tfl have banned further orders, of citaros, which is no supprise, based on what i have descovered, which nobody really knows about. Also, they could have factory upgragded the om926 6370cc euro 5 engine to euro 6, as the 6370cc is euro 5 not 6. 2 possible reasons i think, based on factual research 1. the person ordering them could of tried to reduce cost and ordered them with the euro 5 engine option 2. The 7700cc om936 has not been used in tfl fleets yet, so they could have selected the euro 5 option, which was avalibke for early model c2k and c2. Even in mainland europe has euro 5 c2 too. people learn form mistwkes, and hopefully the c2 will sell with the correct 7700cc om936 engines in future

The DW is a heavy vehicle and can struggle on hills, particularly on a very steep one near the end of Route 466, which is quite long and high. It performs better on some hills!

i hope they keep these for the copthorne routes 🥹
I normally drive that route on Croydon: The London Transport Game (Roblox), but it is only recreated between Thornton Heath Pond and Coombe Road. Still, I drive it to real timings when possible, and with the real life allocation. It is my fav service in the entire game.

whats up with them now?
Nice kickdowns and spot :D Many of these Citaro 2 buses are simply too fast using kickdown to retain passenger comfort which is why the telematics (greenroad) will warn drivers and engage the harsh acceleration alarm which ruins their scores and eventually gets them sacked. Our longer Citaro 2s in Cardiff have to have a pause between first gear and second gear to prevent the beep let alone a shorter Citaro 2 like the ones you see on the 117. There will obviously be that one driver that doesnt care, but drivers like the one in the video may have triggered the harsh acceleration alarm a few times. Greenroad is also much more sensitive than what we have in Cardiff (RIBAS) which only counts harsh acceleration, harsh braking and speeding (the beep does go off for leaving the engine on too long and overrevving, but Cardiff doesnt discipline drivers on this) Unless im wrong and Citaro Ks have less power, you can also see that later on the driver was only doing 2-3s, that kickdown doesnt trigger the harsh acceleration alarm. Greenroad is worse than RIBAS from what heard, exactly how bad it is i do not know.
I don't know the specific details of Greenroad but many drivers do tend to ignore it I've heard. This guy used good kick at the start but then relaxed to just 2-3's later, still something ig but didn't want to set off the system. After studying the timetables I saw this run leaves after to only a 3 minute break at Staines (on a Sunday) from the inbound duty which is stupidly small, so I knew I'd be likely to get results out of it, especially as this driver didn't come back to the bus until 5 minutes after we were supposed to leave. Not sure whether the BD11 MCL's had Greenroad nor if you've seen my video on it yet but this driver would have certainly set it off ua-cam.com/video/KMW-KiZebiM/v-deo.htmlsi=Ozi__AsQbCozkYRP
@@SouthernTransportFan Whether Greenroad is disciplinary heavily depends on the depot. There is obviously going to be that one driver that just doesnt care and will floor it and kill their scores. I think for the 117s case it is a disciplinary, but the driver was driving for a while so 1 or 2 warnings from Greenroad wouldnt affect his score too much. You would obviously have those drivers who just dont care, but i dont think there are many if none for the 117 considering what i heard about the crawling. 0530s are generally slow off the mark even with kickdown, i can see the driver floored it a lot but unless Greenroad was set really sensitively, i dont think he wouldve set the alarm off except for one or two occasions. Suprisingly, this flooring didnt set the alarm off even once meaning that it could be the case where its hard to get the harsh acceleration alarm on a 0530. ua-cam.com/video/h9BhppFuXEw/v-deo.html
@@TheTransportUA-camr Not sure if the DOE's have/had Greenroad but I found A was a depot where a larger than usual amount of drives floor their buses. This has probably gone down now with the Ee's. I think that depot and a lot of GAL in general are pretty relaxed with it as an example. RATP seem really strict. Yeah I can tell they're not as fast as the O295's, but he did force some really powerful downshifts, not sure if Greenroad can detect those or if it focuses purely on acceleration. That's hellfire! Definitely an example to go by
@@SouthernTransportFan I believe that all London buses should have it as it is a safety requirement and is probably much more strictly enforced that ISA. GAL drivers are generally crazy and fast, so i dont think Greenroad is disciplinary over there which is why there is no reason to not drive more aggressively. Maybe it could be at A that the management are encouraging fast driving to meet their KPI quota for some more contracts. If RATP doesnt allow aggressive driving styles then unless there is a driver that wants to get fired (there is always that one person who doesnt care) then they will stick to safe driving. I think even this driver is following Greenroad but pushing the boundaries. In Cardiff, our RIBAS beep goes off for harsh acceleration/braking, overrevving, speeding and leaving the engine too long (CB dont count overreving or engine time). With Greenroad being much worse (cant go over 8mph on roundabouts i hear) we can expect that redlining/very high RPM downshifts can warn drivers although i dont know if this is actually the case. In fact the beep still goes off to warn you with RIBAS so the driver could stop revving the bus thinking he may get called in by management. Greenroad i heard is much more sensitive than RIBAS, so it may be the case that i am wrong and your 203 may have even angered Greenroad! I am not the best for this, i would advise asking a driver more on this. In Cardiff for harsh acceleration it can be anywhete between 3.78-5.62 mph per second for the beep to go off, i would guess that Greenroad is in the lower ends of this, will look at some articles and if i find anything i will inform you. To breach this and still use kickdown, you must do a slight pause and let go of the accelerator between 1st and 2nd to prevent the beep mainly on faster buses with more sensitive harsh acceletation limits Thanks :D, only thing, dont expect this if you come to Cardiff, kickdown isnt easy out here let alone redlining.

@@TheTransportUA-camr Merc's are also kinda similar in that respect, they have plenty of power without kick
@@SouthernTransportFanspeaking of mercs, is the 358 good for Kickdown? Also, whats the best part?
358 is better than 108 I’d say for kick, does have faster roads. But obviously the older MEC’s are nicer than the newer ones. Best part would be Green Street Green - Bromley, can get some good speed there
When a CR4000 will get retired by new trams when replacing...
some of the oldest enviro's in London. I don't know which bus will be succeeding them, could be Electroliner, could be enviro ev.
This bus was actually marked as withdrawn a few days ago, but has been brought back. Still I think it's time is really at the end at TH, DT's tridents will be the last two with Arriva
great vid man, so glad DOEs are still around on the 151, 16/54. They’ll be around till next yr at this rate ❤
Thanks, me too, gonna try for a less limp one on RRP soon :)
why not just allocate the hybrids to be on route 151 from route 80... doesn't make sense lol
There aren’t enough hybrids at Sutton to fill up 151’s allocation, so more would need to be transferred to the garage
Thats a short term solution which isnt worth it as it’ll still be a problem in like 7 years anyways. Also diverging hybrids which other routes desperately need…
do we know when the council will approve the move of the pavement?
They’ve known about it since April/May time, so seem to be extremely slow in starting work. I was at the station a week ago and can confirm even then there was no sign of anything happening. Could be a while
