Episode II: Wilson Combat EDC X9 Ported vs. Non-Ported Comparison
Hey I had my sfx9 3.25 ported the exact same way but I have been experiencing quite a bit of gas blow back in my face with often what appears to be gunpowder hitting my face when i shoot. Was wondering if you experienced any similar issues. I tried shooting 124grain blazer cci that seems to be the worst and 115 grain republic slightly better but the problem still exist. And it’s quite frustrating as I cannot comfortable shoot this gun at all since porting due to the gas/spalling/gun powder hitting my face.
Sorry to hear that @kkshoter1. We have experienced zero issues with that - no blowback. Try some better ammo - Federal any grain and see if you still have the issues. Which direction do your ports face? Hopefully straight out vs angled. Let me know.
I like both guns
Hey @alfredmolijar - yes! They are both quality guns and very similar in their feel. Still something to be appreciated with the JW3 Combat Master since it was a collab with the old STI.
So where can I purchase this whole set up? links?
Hey @israelmerchan5168, I bought all the rigs through Hill People Gear (www.hillpeoplegear.com). They have very high quality products. Best, HS.
What toy spartan figures has to do with lethal gun?
Hey @RolandsKenins, They are just part of the display - Spartans were used because of the Sig being a legion model which has the Spartan symbol as the logo that is all.
@@HolsterSommelier Tell that to a 5 yo kid
Any duty holster recommendations for the STI Apeiro?
Yes, I'm clearly biased but if looking for leather then checkout PureKustom.com. If Kydex then take a look at Legacy Firearms and Tier 1 Concealed.
@@HolsterSommelier Thanks.
I love the atlas but the XC looked like it recoiled less and was on target faster.
Hey @pistolpete8031 you are correct, the MantisX recoilmeter confirm that. That said, it is very close and while the Atlas has a nicer overall feel and fit and finish are better, you can not find a better 2011 for the money than the XC
Why not use the 15 round mag with a sleeve on the ported one and see what the muzzle flip is? I usually carry mine with the 10 round mag in the SFX 9 for more concealability and the 15 round mag with the sleeve in my mag holder. If it takes more than 25 rounds to get out of a bad spot then I guess it is just my time to go. 😜
Hey @tpmakhome, not sure I understand the question. 15 round mags were used for each gun for each test. What do you mean "with a sleeve." All that said, what we have found is that if you weight the grip module, it doesn't really impact muzzle rise, but it does impact balance. You an further reduce muzzle rise by: adding a light or adding a brake/gas pedal. Thanks for the comments and questions.
@@HolsterSommelierThe SFX 9 3.25 that comes with the shorter grip has a 10 round mag gives me more options, I wish the ported came in a 10 round version also. The philosophy of use for me is you can use the Wilson 15 round mag with a base plate made for the shorter grip or just use a sleeve to slide over the Wilson 15 round mag with a standard base plate. I generally carry with the 10 round mag in the grip for better concealment and a 15 round in my mag pouch....just incase. Here is a video version of what I was talking about, hope that helps. ua-cam.com/video/o_drDnq22HA/v-deo.html
That’s so cool nice work
Thanks @user-wq8rr3vt4x glad you enjoyed it!
Real gold coin? Bc that would be cool.
hey @VictoryForThePeople17, sorry, but it is leather and looks exactly like a John Wick coin because Taran did say it's not in John Wick..... yet.
@@HolsterSommelierstill really cool. Looks real.
Looking on the Atlas website the Nemesis doesn't appear to be optic ready
Hey @Mdsub101 you are correct. My Nemesis is a special edition from Atlas where they made 15 of them with an optic. That said, if you know a good gunsmith or machine shiop that works on slides/guns, they can cut it for an optic. Good luck and thanks for the question/comment.
@@HolsterSommelier I'm shooting limited optics, right now using a 320 Sig x-five legion. I'd love to get my hands on an optics ready Nemesis, you're incredibly lucky!
Throw in the CZ Tactical Sport Orange and the STI Costa Carry Comp.
not so sure about the CZ but the Costa would be a nice piece to own and compare for sure. I'm doing round two with these three same tools with some changes to the XC and TRS Comp and...... will include my newly comp'd Atlas Nemesis. Should be a fun day at the range. Stay-tuned.
@@HolsterSommelier I’ve got the costa carry comp, and the CZ, and I have to say, the CZ, considering it’s price being so much lower than my other high end comps, is one of the most accurate guns I’ve ever shot straight out of the box, and has the sweetest triggers you will ever pull. But considering it’s size, not really a carry pistol for most average sized human beings.
1911 sti Trojan. :)
love it... and true.
When did atlas start doing optics cuts on the nemesis?
Hey @TheDuppyman they didn't! Before they started doing optic cuts in general they produced 15 Nemesis guns with the optic cut. You can tell if this is one of them because they engaged RDS on the slide. All that said, if you have a nemesis, you can find a few quality gunsmiths to do an optic cur for you.
Did you ever reach out to TTI about that mag release and grip safety issue? I feel that for that price, they ought to send you what they advertise on their website and not cut corners.
Hey @seapanther53. Yes I did and they replaced with no questions --- very good customer service! thanks for the question.
@HolsterSommelier do you mind doing a follow up video? I'm considering getting the pit viper or the XC.
Probably the fairest least opinionated test I’ve seen yet
Thanks for the comment @Colonel1Bravo. The nice thing about having no sponsorship is that we have no pressure to like or dislike anything on the channel. Stay-tuned a rematch is in the works with some "tweaks" to those 3 and a new entry........ to make 4.
@@HolsterSommelier sounds good. Can’t wait
Me: watching high-end pistol comparison, with a hi point sitting in my lap 😢😢
lulz!!! appreciate that @samoansojah. Nothing wrong with a hi point my friend.
These look like some good drills. Have you ever tried a Hammer Armament holster ?
I have not, but will check them out! Thanks for the recco @joebishop7909.
What holster would you recommend for drop leg use?
thanks for the question @beyondtheBox1. So many really good choices here. I use kydex holsters from Legacy Firearms and Tier1 Conealed. Provided they have one for your tool, they are both great. I also run a leather holster by Pure Kustom. For all of these I also use the Safariland QLS system which makes changing holsters fast and easy. Check those out and good luck!
That looks like a blast! Doesn't hurt to have 2011s either. Cool Video. My wife and I do a "pelvic bowl" drill like this at the indoor range, where we start binging the target in to simulate someone coming at you. Subbed.
thanks @The2AExperiment - and yes very fun. Our indoor range has similar settings that will bring the target in and turn it along the way.... makes it more interesting for sure. Thanks for the comment/feedback.
Great shooting! Moving targets are a lot more difficult than stationary targets!
Thanks @purekustom. Def a bit more challenging.
Great video
Thanks!
damn that viper holster❤
ya @rik1541, Rocky at Pure Kustom does some crazy shit. Fully functional but really a BBQ holster
Three Trash Hammer fired glorified 1911s that’s all those things are race 1911s that’s all they are I take a race Glock over a race 1911 any day of the week because it doesn’t have a hammer to get caught on your shirt
@deendadisdick6845 while certianly more possible than a striker-fired option, practice, practice, practice. And, make solid choices in what you wear. All that said, none of these are my EDC (which is still a hammer-fired wilson). The Sommelier appreciates all feedback and comments. We all have our favorites and if yours is the Glock and it works for you then that is awesome.
Glocks, the Walmart of guns.
Beautiful collection, not sure most people realize that's damn near a $50K collection in those 5 pistols.
Thanks @relovat..... yes, the bad news is that they are not cheap!
What was the cost to get this done? Thanks
Hey @richs.820. you can check out Dave's site DSCGUNWORKS.com. It was around $300.
Remember the staccatos 2k less than the others it’s being compared to
Hi @ryanmiller32 yes and this is a solid consideration when making choices. If money is an important factor then the Staccato can not be denied for its value relative to other similar 2011s. You can't go wrong with any of these three.
And when reliability is affected, don’t blame Wilson combat if you wanted a ported version they do offer it
Hi @daisygirl0105 appreciate the reliability comment. It is critical to always use a highly qualified gunsmith to perform any mods like chunk or barrel porting. DSC Gunworks has an outstanding record of reliability with thier work so do your homework. That said, you do void the manufacturers warranty by not using them for the work. All that said, I have 1,000s of rounds through my ported tools with zero issues. Wilson makes very solid guns and Dave @ DSC Gunworks is an excellent gunsmith. Best, Holster Sommelier.
Neither one of those pistols are no better than a SIG Xfive .
Hey @garyjones7305. It really depends on what characteristics you are using to define "no better than." As a Sig P226 Legion owner myself, I can tell you that it shoots as accurately as both, but is not quite as fast - too much difference between a duty and competition trigger. Neither of these was meant to be a duty gun. In that case, I'd rather carry my Sig. But for overall fit, finish, performance and just cool factor, these two are nice. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment.
Yeah, sure. The p320 that doesnt have disconnector or manual safety, but it have striker drop failure.... We don't have to pay attention to your comment when u compare a striker pistol to a single action

Who makes the holsters?
Rocky Felix at Pure Kustom (purekustom.com) check out the sight. Can make anything you need.

thanks working on it! Doing some ballistics gel vids with 10mm and 9mm.
@@HolsterSommelier the comparisons of these guns!
Who makes the holster for the Sand Viper? That iholster is insane.
It was made by Rocky Felix with Pure Kustom holsters (purekustom.com). It is way, way better in person!
Hi I’m picking up my sfx9 3.25. For conceal carry which hostler is best for my purpose and please give me the link to whom I can purchase it with. Thanks
if you want a kydex iwb i would recco legacy firearms (assuming no light). if you want leather then i recco the Mini IWB from Pure Kustom (this is my daily one ---- I also addred the extreme option to it. I have both, but my kydex one is OWB.
What Caliber is it? 38 super comp or 9 major
Thanks for the question. It is 9 minor. i did this primarily to have the barrel last longer and not take such a beating. I'm not a professional competition shooter so my lively hood doesn't depend on using the "best" set up for that. Great question. The video you see was using Federal 124gr fmj ammo.
@HolsterSommelier well you answered my question as to why no popples! Sweet piece minor or major tho!
I had the privilege of shooting next to them while they were filming. They generously let me shoot it. Great guys. I have barely shot red dot and never shot a real race gun before - much less something like an Infinity- and was amazed. It performs as good as it looks. I reciprocated the best I could with the most different gun I have- my vintage 1960s Beretta M1951.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the race gun. That Beretta is a nice collector piece!
That’s a sweet firearm very nice congrats
Thanks, expensive, but worth every penny if you can.
to me depends on your status, build and finish there's no deny NH is at top although i have XC!
Hey @MenOfArms you are absolutely right, one can't go wrong with any of these fine tools and the Sommelier fav is his XC --- best value and performance for the cost. That said, it is always nice to have the fit and finish of the NH or Viper
@@HolsterSommelierthat fit n finish on the SV is not above the XC
Great shirt is a beast homie obviously shoots 3 gun or competitive shooting
Thanks @brandonGotCaniks! Yes, Bill used to shoot competitively but now only does instruction. You must for work Columbia Clothing.
I didn't know that the US Air Force now makes guns now!
lulz @chltmdwp, I've always liked the deisgn on the flying tigers.
Thanks for spending your money, so we don't have to and then be disappointed with the holster.
Ha @joebishop7909 glad to help! I've wasted good money over time on stuff I just couldn't love and am happy to share my experiences.
I’m in love with the Dragon Scale grip. Hoping to get one on a Springfield Prodigy soon
Thanks @stephanox758 - speed shooters has them on their website. Just be aware that you may also need to replace the mag release depending on your current grip. Good Luck!
Have you ever shot one of the Alpha Foxtrot S15 1911
Hey @justinhaagensen5277 I have not, say more.......
Those holsters are sweet!!!
Thank you @NighthawkCustomFirearms want to make you proud! Just got my TRS Comp back today from Bob Reeves and the gang at the custom shop --- put a sweet competition trigger on it.
@@HolsterSommelier We hope you enjoy that TRS Comp!!
TTI Viper is a waste of money. The XC and Nighthawk are worth the money. At 7k for a Viper, you’d be best served going Atlas. A polymer grip on a 7k is just sad.
Hey @SystemEncephale thanks for the comment. Ageed, if you have to make a choice between them, then the XC is by far the best value for the money. if money isn't an issue, the PV is still fun to shoot - not quite as much as the Sand Viper only because I like optics. And, I believe that the Wick guns hold their value pretty well - at least for now. Thjanks for watching the channel!
Two different guns. One is a real range gun while the other is a collectible.
Where's the erebus
Hey @pauls8304 great question. Maybe one will be added to the Sommeliers collection then we can compare. From what I've heard it is a great tool and shoots very similarly to the XC.
Don’t care about the holsters
Hey @fd8282 that's fine, not everything will apply to everyone. That said, appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching.
@@HolsterSommelierMy dude, I just noticed that your literal name on youtube is “holstersommelier.” Please disregard my earlier comment. Pairing holsters with guns is literally ‘your thing.’ My comment was stupid. You keep doing you, brother.
Big money
True, but if you can afford one it is well spent! If only one, I'd recco the XC!
Yeah ive been looking I got the mr920 right now i like it. But 2011s might be in the future. Nice collection
Egads! That snake holster! And not many holsters in this video from the holster sommoelier???
hey @jyo8914 -- the videos really don't do the 3D holsters any justice at all, they really are amazing pieces of art. The others really were more of your "everyday" holsters from PK. Still working on something special for the TRS Comp. Any deisgn ideas for that one?
Looking forward to this comparison. I’d also love to see a comparison of the STI Combat Master and Nemesis RDS as they’re similar lengths and not comped.
yes a more "fair comparison" would be with the Nemesis and I will do that for you! The Viper does have the advantage of the comp and I can tell you that it is flatter than the Combat Master. That said, there is just something very special with the OG STI Comat Master.
@@HolsterSommelierAwesome! I’ll look out for when that comparison drops. I recently picked up an unfired OG STI CM and I agree, there’s this special factor about it.
Now that’s a great collection, congratulations and keep the content coming. Will you ever do a revolver ie a Korth or a Manurin?
Hey @user-wq8rr3vt4x love where you are going with this --- we may be picking up a Korth Ranger Comp..... Stay tuned.
Thank you for the video. I have been debating on a 3.25 inch with the full size grip or a 4 inch SFX9 for a while now! I have talked to mini gun enthusiast, gun shop owners and watched many videos on UA-cam and reviews! Most of the people have recommended I go with the 4 inch barreled version. they say it will shoot a little flatter and I will have a little longer site radius especially if I put a red dot on it. They say the red dot will have a little bit more room and fit better on a little longer of a slide. Also they say that 3.25 is kind of jumpy. I already have a 4 inch EDCX9 that I love, but I think a 4 inch SFX9 with maybe a nice creamer outside the waistband holster would be fine. I hope I like the grip. What are your thoughts? Would you recommend a 3.25 with a full size grandpa just go ahead and get the 4 inch?
Great questions. I def recco that you find a way to try shooting both. Lots of variables like how it feels to you, does one carry better than the other, etc. I prefer the SFX9 3.25 with full size grip. I shoot it as well as my 4in EDX x9. That said, the 4in SFX9 would be an excellent choice because it is a lil thinner - and it is Bill Wilson's carry tool of choice! Good Luck and keep me posted on what you decide.
@@HolsterSommelier does the No undercut trigger guard and grip affect you? I have heard some people say, that they can’t seem to get a comfortable grip on the SFX9. ???? Also, how’s the recoil impulse from the 3.25????
