Follow our adventures in search of all things Whisk(e)y, from distillery tours, to bottle photography to educational experiences.
Welcome to our site, we are Dawn & Michael Mitchell and we are two fun loving photographers that like to drink Bourbon and generally like to drink it Neat.
We live in Northern Indiana, and like to share our Bourbon with our good friends who also like Bourbon, or who are learning to like it. The point of good Bourbon is to share it with friends and to enjoy the friendship.
This site is a collection of our experiences along the Bourbon Trail and the “Way of the Bourbon” where we both experience all things related to Bourbon (and maybe a few Whisk(e)ys). We document our field trips to distilleries, keep track of the facts and some fiction of the history of Bourbon and Whisk(e)y, and as a place to keep our notes on things.

Little trivia. NECCO is an abbreviation for New England Confectionery Company
Ya know, I think I remember that now. Thanks for reminding me.
I like the videos when you bring in your bourbon friends. Mike still needs to stay focused and stop getting distracted by the “peanut gallery” for no particular reason
Yes, Michael is easily distracted at times isn't he. 😋
Hey Dave! #2…..definitely number 2. Necco
I am a new subscriber to your channel and have been enjoying watching your videos. However, I did want to raise one issue that bothers me. Attempting to mimic the store owners English is not mimicking, it’s mocking and that is disrespectful to him. Even if you would consider it mimicking, there’s still no reason to do that. As I fully believe and recognize your intent was not to be disrespectful, I will continue to be a subscriber and enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the feedback. I will keep that in mind, its what the owner and I always do together but realize, some may not know the back interaction we have...its never done out of disrespect.
Did you stay for the third day? Curious if it’s worth staying in town for the last day of the festival.
We did stay, however, we didn't actually go into the festival. We used that day to go visit a few distilleries where we were able to get hard to get bottles, so I'd say yes, stay the 3rd, if not just to do that. I have heard too that the 3rd day is not as busy so might be a better pace for your preference.
Would love to have heard your thoughts after tasting your drink.
You guys are one of my favorite bourbon UA-cam channels
That's very nice of you to say that. We have fun with it and don't try to be super polished, there are plenty of those channels out there like that. Cheers
So basically another young sourced whiskey from a brand formed by a business guy hopeful to make billions in bourbon? Good luck with that. While I respect all avenues of bourbon, I find it very difficult to see the sense behind buying young sourced bourbon. There’s just way too much of it on the market already. How many different varieties of 5 year mgp can there really be?
It is getting exhausting. I do like a good MGP but like you said, there are so many of them out there. It's only going to get worse with Bardstown and Green River doing contract distilling, not to mention Wilderness Trail and a few new distillers coming online in a few years. The problem I have with contract distilling is how expensive their bottles are. I get it, when you source, it's expensive, but in the end to pay $100+ for a bottle of sourced is a lot of $$
How do you find events like this?
In this case, it was part of the add-ons of going to the KY Bourbon Festival. But generally, we follow some great bourbon podcasts (like @bourbonpursuit) that keep us in the know!
@chasingneat I am going to this next year
Awesome! We definitely recommend getting the General Admission 3 day, and then if you want to splurge, by the extra add-on events. Although the add-ons can be pricey, you at least get the opportunity to be up close and personal with some of your favorite distillery and distillers/blenders. Most of the master distillers are out at their booths at some point throughout the weekend, without any special access.
Both teams did great! Keep surprising us! Thanks for the reviews guys!
Love it! Great review and great on helping out that charity!
Supporting the charity is absolutely the best part, hands down!! Trying high proof at an ND tailgate...bonus! :-)
Great pours for tailgating in cold weather! 🥃
Yes they were! Thank goodness we won that game!! Go Irish!
How can I do this next year?
This was so much fun! You have to first start by becoming a Patreon for Pursuit Spirits. It's a great group of people to hang out with for a weekend!
🎉🎉🎉
I have an enormous collection of both sneakers and bourbon.
Oh do tell!! Which collection is bigger? ;-)
Sneakers!
That's great!!
A little more constructive criticism… plan out how you want this video to go… I’ve watched so many of your videos and they just ramble and get lost. Plan out what you want to say and what you want to cover and what you want people to know about what you’ve learned. I’m glad you guys love bourbon, but you really lose a lot of people with how you get off topic and lose context.
Thanks for the feedback. We're tryin' :-)
I’m glad I’m not the only one that picks up on that 😊🥃
A little constructive criticism. If you want to be a true bourbon channel, try to get away from making your videos less like a home video. Less off camera conversations and all of the time you spend looking for bottles on your shelves lessens your production value. I still enjoy your videos though. Keep it going 🥃
Nice Seinfeld reference with your control pour at the beginning! 😂 Blinds can be difficult. Enjoyed the episode! 🥃
I have a crazy sneaker collection so I’m really looking forward to this bottle just for the story. Probably not worth the money but it’s pretty cool.
Define "crazy" lol! We'd love to see some of your collection! What are some of your favorite shoes you've purchased!?
I find it funny you said sneakers should cost that much and you won’t spend money on sneakers but you will spend a lot on bourbons, which should never be expensive. It was invented to use up the discarded surplus grains leftover from farmers and gets its flavor from absorbing wood tannins. Really a very inexpensive product when you come down to it. Used to be .25 cents a gallon. N
Right!! Isn't it funny how everyone has a "I wouldn't pay that much money for...." but then we pay a lot for other things, just as expensive! I do love seeing what people like to collect!
Very interesting story about the steps taken for delivery of the special gift of your Blue Run bourbon whiskey. Cool looking bottle too!
You have great neighbors.
We do!! We are blessed, not to mention it's great so nobody has to drive under the influence!
Great use for vodka!
That Straits Whiskey belongs only on the shelf. Young whiskey with metallic tastes. Unfortunate it's local and I'd love it to be better.
Law is anything that is open to the public must be marked if it's under 14 feet
Good to know. So that metal sign is at least 14+ feet. Not sure how tall the bus was.
@chasingneat should be... doesn't mean it is. It's more highly regulated on roads. It is supposed to be anywhere the public has access to. But the Grey area is if that is considered private then the rules don't apply.
I'd say the JD is on my Right, your left
Well now, that depends on your point of view. 🤣
Never seen it that empty!
This is definitely a smaller Liquor Barn. It’s one that I frequent regularly.
You can SUCK IT. I just got back from my store here in town with a Blantons with the 2nd N. The way to tell is the dirt piles under the horses legs. On the first N the dirt piles are under the horses front legs. On the second N the dirt is piled high under the horses rear leg. Anyone can just buy the cork stoppers, but it takes a dedicated Bourbon drinker to get them from their own empty bottles. The easist way is on the first "N" the horses right legs are forward. On the second "N" the horses right leges are back. So suck that.
lol. We were rookies when we started our topper collection back in 2018. Happy to report we have all of them now, the authentic way! Thanks for the tip on the 2 N's!
Nice shoutout for Texas Mart. Aman always takes care of us.
You got that right! Tipsy is killin' it over there in Ashley! Hope you get a chance to visit him too! Check out and follow his FB for the great selections he keeps getting!
After tasting the Volume 3, Unabridged bottle of bourbon whiskey from Milam and Greene whiskey brand, we can't wait to find Volumes 1 & 2! Great bottle!
I got a 122 proof bourbon as a gift, and poured it onto a few ice cubes. My favorite proof is 100, and one of my 4 rebuys has 90 proof.
This one is definitely a HOT one, but if you like that high proof, this will be your jam! I am surprised there is a SB at 90 proof, great grab!
To be called Bottled In Bond, it must be 100 proof. Cask strength bourbons are almost always over 110 proof and can get well into the 130s.
Yes, true, here is the current CFR: www.ecfr.gov/current/title-27/chapter-I/subchapter-A/part-5/subpart-F/section-5.88 § 5.88 Bottled in bond. (a) The term “bond,” “bonded,” “bottled in bond,” or “aged in bond,” or phrases containing these or synonymous terms, may be used (including as part of the brand name) only if the distilled spirits are: (1) Composed of the same kind (type, if one is applicable to the spirits, otherwise class) of spirits distilled from the same class of materials; (2) Distilled in the same distilling season (as defined in § 5.1) by the same distiller at the same distillery. (3) Stored for at least 4 years in wooden containers wherein the spirits have been in contact with the wood surface, except for vodka, which must be stored for at least 4 years in wooden containers coated or lined with paraffin or other substance which will preclude contact of the spirits with the wood surface, and except for gin, which must be stored in paraffin-lined or unlined wooden containers for at least 4 years; (4) Unaltered from their original condition or character by the addition or subtraction of any substance other than by filtration, chill proofing, or other physical treatments (which do not involve the addition of any substance which will remain in the finished product or result in a change in class or type); (5) Reduced in proof by the addition of only pure water to 50 percent alcohol by volume (100 degrees of proof); and (6) Bottled at 50 percent alcohol by volume (100 degrees of proof). (b) Imported spirits labeled as “bottled in bond” or other synonymous term described above must be manufactured in accordance with paragraphs (a)(1) through (6) of this section and may only be so labeled if the laws and regulations of the country in which the spirits are manufactured authorize the bottling of spirits in bond and require or specifically authorize such spirits to be so labeled. The “bottled in bond” or synonymous statement must be immediately followed, in the same font and type size, by the name of the country under whose laws and regulations such distilled spirits were so bottled. (c) Domestically manufactured spirits labeled as “bottled in bond” or with some other synonymous statement must bear the real name of the distillery or the trade name under which the distiller distilled and warehoused the spirits, and the number of the distilled spirits plant in which distilled, and the number of the distilled spirits plant in which bottled. The label may also bear the name or trade name of the bottler.
There are some decent Old Elk's out there. I tried a few that I liked and a few that were definitely meant to be mixed. Thanks for the 2oz Tuesday again!
Oh yes, we tried one at Pursuit Palooza last summer and it was soo good we bought the bottle!
Love the animal cracker review 😂 great job guys!
We are a full service review channel!
Get yourselves some wine tasting crackers. Not a sweet as animal crackers and more softer so you won’t hear the crunching 🥃
Thanks for the tip!
The one off Main and 31 by noble Roman’s is super solid as well
Shut up!!! Now we'll have to go visit that store too!! Thanks for the tip!
Congrats! I have the Cellar Aged Experience booked for next week, excited to try it!
Have fun! We've never been on that excursion. Let us know how you like it!
A well oiled machine 😉🥃
Great Video!!! My wife and I were glad we survived the cutting/editing floor.
Do yourselves a favor and get the Redbreast cask strength
He have that one, it is really good!
Does Dawn ever stop talking 😂
Michael here; Well, not really but then again mostly it is because I don't talk enough. I probably should do more interjecting in the future. :-)
That Amrut barreled Bardstown sounds interesting. Amrut is a single malt whisky from India
We have heard good things about that, we still have yet to try it, but want to.
A few of those tequilas are Total Wine Spirit Direct products. Curious how he got those. The Carmesi and the Lagado
Hmm, not sure either, unless they went in on the barrel pick, but you would think that they would each get a supply to call their own.
Amman is a legend. Great store, worth the 30 min drive for me everytime
Yes we love Amman, is is genuinely a good person! Love his store and all his barrel picks!
I’m going to be in South Bend next weekend. Where’s a good place for dinner with a good whiskey selection? Lasalle Kitchen and Tavern is on my list

Awesome video you two! Cool that you met Richard from Boozapp. I’ve always wondered what app you guys use for your whiskey selection bc there are so many bottles. Any tool that makes it easier for people interested in bourbon and whiskey is a win in my book. And he let you try that antique bottle when the video needed. That was very nice. How was it? Anytime you can sip on old dusty bottles is a good day. God bless y’all and keep up the amazing videos.
Richard was great! So passionate about they have been able to do with the app and the vintage bottles. It was such a treat that we got to taste one! It was rather smooth, I must admit! We can't wait to send him our full list!
Glad to see you had the Boozapp founder. I use that app every time I look for a bottle when not at my local Binny's in Chicago. The KBF was beyond fun this year. Great video as always!!
Everyone kept saying that this year's festival was one of the best! We thought it was fantastic! And that Boozapp makes it so much more convenient than just doing a google search, for sure!! We've only been to 1 Binny's and hope to get back to more of them this fall!
Looks like fun, can't wait for "we can't stop drink Wednesday ". You all are great.
Thank you, sir! We are having fun with it...don't know about a Wednesday edition, ha ha. Maybe we could be talked into that too.
