Hello and thank you from 2024 and france. Looks like I will have to take the radiator and all off to get the cUb started. Took the Governor off to clean the shaft up and I must have turned the engine over as I moved the fan blades out of the way. Just told me al I need( I hope !) All the best .
Such a beautiful clean machine is perfect for instruction. But I cannot see through steel. Pop off housings so we mortals can understand. You'll be famous. Thanks
hey thanks for video. im struggling with setting up the timing on my super a. I've tried to follow the shop manual and owners manual and am, just not certain im clear on it. I get everything except what position to have the arm that rides on the cam. I understand that the rotor should point to #1cylinder on cap. but does it need to be on the cam lobe (points open) or should the points be closed. it seems that it can actually point in that direction either way. thanks
Sorry, I don’t go on the you tube much, just loaded to try and help those not knowing how to do cub timing. I see it’s been a month …. Hopefully you got it by now.😅. With all in time, points will be closed. Then turn distributor till the just start to open. Lock down. But again - probably got it by now.
Couple things I didn’t say on video. 1. Still had the old spring in it. Couldn’t figure out why new one wouldn’t go down( I feel dumb ). Took an easy out and got both springs out. Neither had a ball. Searched below with several flex magnets. Nothing. 2. Use a smaller diameter punch to hold ball down so shaft has room to slide forward. Extremely easy job.
When installing the distributor, I said set at 1 o clock position. Realize that’s misleading. It should be at #1 _but put cap on and mark center of where wire would be on distributor. That’s where you put on high lobe, set to 20 thousandth and install distributor. Hope I didn’t confuse anyone.
I’ve had the bucket off and on at least 20 times. The LA344 is new. Never been used since new. I’ve locked the bucket on, loosened the bracket arms, re torqued…. Still the same issue. Level new concrete. Tried several spots in 48x38 barn. It’s either the left or the right that won’t lock. What I’ve figured out. Opposite side that doesn’t lock, lift bucket manually, place 1/2 board under bucket. Then try. Locks every time. Common Kubota. I’m to old to lift the bucket. My JD 2305 locks on first time every time.
Forgot to mention, support engine underneath ( jack) before removing motormount plate. Also, once jacked up, easier to remove the 7 bolts on the plate from the side rather than underneath. I used a knuckle on my 3/8th drive.
Thank you for posting this informative video. I just put a cub lo-boy engine together from parts. Honing, deglazing, fitting piston rings, etc. Replace distributor. Your instructions to put cylinder 1 on compression stroke and look at points and back off of lobe clockwise got me running ..thank you sir.

You are bad at explaining stuff
If you're too lazy to take it apart, don't make a video
Trying to figure this out now,,, many thanks for the video

Try a rubber mallet and some lube. Steer clear of pinch points 😉
Thanks for posting.

Glad it helped
Need to do this with it apart.
