Booster Seats And Sleep: How To Prevent Sideways Slump!
When kids fall asleep in a booster, they still need to stay upright in their booster! Avoid products like these surround pillows-here’s why, and how to keep them safely upright instead!
-Consider putting them back into a highback booster seat, which provides head and torso support.
-Teach them to look up when sleepy so that their head falls straight back onto the vehicle head restraint and their body stays upright.
-If desired, allow them to hug a large pillow in front of them over their safely fitted seatbelt. The pillow can easily be thrown aside and allow the child to unbuckle and exit quickly in an emergency.

Are you making this mistake with your baby’s car seat? For younger, smaller babies especially, make sure the harness pads are on top of the shoulders and not preventing the chest clip from sitting at armpit level! In order to “borrow” the inner LATCH anchors from the outboard seats to install a car seat in the center, both the car seat AND the vehicle manufacturer must allow it! If one or the other says no (or you’re unsure), install with the seatbelt in the center instead.

Why Not Both?

Install your car seat using the lower LATCH anchors OR the vehicle seatbelt, not both! Only 3 exceptions currently exist in the USA: -Nuna Pipa (all models) -Clek Foonf (only when forward facing) -BabyArk If it’s not one of those three, use one or the other! Reminders: -Follow the weight limit for using the lower LATCH anchors on your seat -If your seat is forward facing, DO use the top tether ...
Car Seats Are Not For Boats!
Переглядів 29Місяць тому
Many parents carry their babies onto the family pontoon boat in their infant car seat because they’re just thinking of somewhere to set baby down during their day on the water. This is actually very dangerous, because a car seat will fill with water and sink (with baby in it) during a boating accident! Leave the car seat in the car and make sure all babies and children are wearing a Coast Guard...

Choose The Right Path!

When using a convertible or all-in-one car seat, use the correct belt path for the direction the seat is facing! Not everyone has great spatial awareness, and the car seat manuals don’t always describe it well. If you get it naturally, good for you, but that doesn’t mean it’s common sense to everyone’s brain.

    I very much disagree with this. There have been reports of dangers happening even when they know how to hold their head up. My son is two, has low muscle tone due to health issue. For him, I do not believe it's safe for him to be in head slump position.

    • @countrykidscarseatsafety
      @countrykidscarseatsafety 15 днів тому

      That’s a perfectly valid concern when there is a medical need like that to consider, but for a child without any special medical needs that impact things like breathing and muscle control, it’s not a concern after they have good head control. If it were a concern after that age, we would have a ton of data to show that, because so many kids do sleep in the car with their heads in that position it would be happening often, but it simply isn’t because they can and do move their heads if needed, just like adults.

    • @countrykidscarseatsafety

      Once a child is ready to forward face (at least age 2 or when rearfacing is outgrown for their convertible or all-in-one seat), the harnessed mode of a “harnessed booster” or “harness to booster” seat is an appropriate choice! There’s no safety difference to the child, a forward facing harness is a forward facing harness, whether it’s on a convertible, all-in-one, or harness-to-booster seat.

    • @countrykidscarseatsafety
      @countrykidscarseatsafety 2 місяці тому

      Great question: each loop can be both a router and an anchor at the same time! So each loop can have a tether strap routed through it while also having another seat’s tether strap hooked onto it. If you have two forward facing seats in the outboard seats, they CAN both attach to the center loop, too!

    Both my girls are still in high back boosters at 9 and 11 and totally love them! They love having their owne cupholders and secret compartments for snacks and toys! My husband and i dont want to move them to backless boosters, we figured it was best they stay in their high backs, mostly because of the extra side impact protection they offer and the headrest. Both my girls like to jump around in their seats especially when we're listening to taylor swift ( we all love taylor swift ) so they're staying in their highbacks and its working out great!

      The ONLY booster that can be used with the RideSafer vest is the TravelSmarter booster from the same manufacturer: it cannot be used with any other booster whatsoever! It is optional, my biggest concern for the 3 year old is their maturity it sit correctly for the entire ride. There is more freedom of movement in the vest than in a harnessed seat, for a child that young I would advise a responsible adult to sit in the back with him to monitor him.
