“Espacio Seguro”: A Testament of Queerness
Joseph Decilos, a Harlingen native and “long-form documentarian,” explores queer intimacy in his project, “Espacio Seguro.” Influenced by his #southtexas upbringing and his mentor Carlos Leal, his photography challenges societal norms and advocates for queer visibility. Decilos’ exhibitions in D.C. and Harlingen highlight intimate narratives, blending artistry with activism.

Celebrations in the RGV began June 1st with the South Texas Equality Project’s Pride Kickoff. Local LGBTQIA organizations and allies gathered to commemorate the 10th anniversary of STEP and inform community members of the resources available to them. The range of organizations varied from ones that support trans youth to others that document and share local queer history.

Thanks! We will be doing more coverage on other border towns from the sky! The island was a little confusing, it seems it used to belong to Mexico, but now it seems to be under U.S territory, this could potentially have changed.

I got a chance to visit Grind Coffee Co twice while in South Texas in July. Great place, with awesome staff, and a comfy atmosphere for meetings or individual work. My daughter gave a thumbs up on the hot chocolate! I was able to enjoy a couple of different teas. I look forward to going back once I'm back in South Texas!
