    The low e string on a guitar works pretty good too if you happen to have an old one laying around. I'm having issues with my tank after lining it, pressure builds and trying to find remedies.

    Hopefully you see this and respond. How did you mount your rear fender? Did you drill into the swing arm to bolt it on or did you weld on some mounts to the swingarm. I see you got some fender struts that bolt onto the bottom of the shocks. Thanks.

      I used 1/8” steel strapping to make 4 mounts, and yeah, bolted to swingarm and fender!

    How did you extend the swing arm?

    • @CloseEnoughGarage
      @CloseEnoughGarage 2 місяці тому

      I cut it then made an insert and pounded it in, then welded around, then capped it all and welded there as well

    Hope everything is going better with you brother. Any chance you can post a detailed video on how you mounted the rear fender? I’m currently building a aero 750 and I want to get a rear fender on there asap!

    • @CloseEnoughGarage
      @CloseEnoughGarage 2 місяці тому

      I will try eventually but it's really just 1/8" steel strap shaped to keep it centered. Took about 5 different test fits before I made some I'm happy with!

      Nice!! The biggest thing I’m curious about is how you bolted it down to the swing arm, like by the battery and not the straps.

      I'm actually in Akron, rode once in the rain, never again lmao I had a fender for this, unfortunately when it's parked there's no room for one, back of the front wheel is 1/8" from the radiator! This is a show bike only anyway!

    What prep was done to the head light before paint. Nice job, I’m in my 70’s so building a trike VT750 ACE. I used a tank from a 80 Yamaha 1100 same length as stock but narrow. Metal flake lime with black clear. Rear drive consists of inner sealed with grease fittings added to 9inch Ford diff with shortened Camaro axles. Rear disk brakes from 600 Honda ATV.

    • @CloseEnoughGarage
      @CloseEnoughGarage 3 місяці тому

      So for the headlight, and any chrome or plasti-chrome parts, it's all in the prep! I go very aggressive with 200-300 grit and rough the chrome as much as possible, then follow with all over 600-800 grit. You'll want to follow with an etching 2k primer that'll really bite into the substrate, then of course block it out and prime again. Then your color and finish.

    Think about a URAL side car outfit. Very stable. Has reverse so you don't have to push it. 2 nd hand ones have low mileage and are priced right. Older models like my 1999 Tourist are quite reliable and dependable transportation. Used mine as primary ride after getting run off the road by a dump truck. Some days I don't get out of the house 🏠. My old doctor bitched at me for still riding. FXXX him! You can get a new Velorex side car and hook it to your Honda Shadow. Stay in the 🌬️ wind.

    from one crip to another i though i'd share something that made lifting my bike to work on it a lot easier. in the 40+ years i've been working on bikes, with street bikes probably 90% of the time i really only need to lift either the front or the rear but not both at the same time so i built a heavy duty old school dirt bike style tilt and lift to get my street bike up. I built it wide enough for the leverage bar to clear the bags as i lift and the greatest part is, i can get either end of my bike up and ready to be worked on in under 30 seconds and since the lift doubles as a stand once the bike is up you don't to strap the bike down to keep it from falling over, my lift/stand is 10x sturdier then one of those sketchy bike jacks. anyway just thought you might find this useful......

    Hey Sir, Glad you are still with us. June 04, 2023 I was a victim of a hit & run. The bike was totaled, I was close to being totaled. The fact that I already had aftermarket stainless steel knees prevented me losing a leg, but it was close. Almost a year later I'm still struggling with residual pain. I hope you can find some relief, Sir. Never thought about a ratchet strap on my cheap lift... but running out to the garage to hang one on the lift now. Thanks!
