We have been here for 3 years, and we are now looking into moving out. The biggest reason is our kids. Everyone says the schools are good. But I beg the difference but that's our opinion. Also, there's not many advancement opportunities academically and in sports for our kids. As well as some of our kids have graduated HS challenges, and the lack of job opportunities for the younger crowd, etc. They commute a lot for college and work. Everyone says there are job opportunities, but truly, there isn't. The infrastructure is so behind. I have been to a smaller town around the US, and they have better infrastructure. I love mt pleasant, but I wouldn't buy there only because you lose privacy with the number of tourists. I think CHS as a whole is awesome not having kids and having multiple streams of income. I mean, CHS is a tourist place. We miss going to big sports events and concerts. We love CHS/Summerville, but we see it as a vacation spot for our family. We do love it. We love South Carolina. we are looking into moving upstate SC. But I understand that for some, it works for others, it doesn't. Overall, wherever city anyone chooses to live, it should be based on your likes and lifestyle.

Yeah this is definitely a “We’re full” video. A few valid points though: HOAs do suck, ours isn’t even local so no real people (w/ any authority) to deal directly with. Took 6 months to get privacy fence approval. “South Carolina drivers” is an oxymoron but it’s not because of lawyers and lawsuits - it’s because they are uber defensive drivers, they are so cautious they’re dangerously indecisive. Which means no matter what you do, if it goes wrong, it’s going to be your fault. But SC is great!

We moved from West Lafayette, IN (smack between Chicago and Indianapolis) to Summerville, SC in 2020. Although we love the ocean and mild winters of SC, the Midwest gives you the “best bang for your buck” in terms of affordability, education, infrastructure, and accommodations/recreation IMO. We’ve had our “time in the sun,” but we are looking to move back to IN soon.

My ol lady is a Summerville native and came down to Jacksonville here for our job market and it's a much bigger area. Yeah, we have our crime issues of course but we are less than 3 hours away from her hometown so she can visit anytime. As you can imagine when she tells me traffic is bad I laugh. We are 800+ square miles city limit wise and have nearly a million people. When she says Charleston has sketchy areas I always laugh too. Mu section of the city alone is 2.5x bigger than Summerville area wise and the population is nearly 3x more. You can imagine how that conversation goes my good sir lol.

As a local truck driver in this area, I have been rear-ended 8 times in the last 6 years alone...just for reference. Don't forget, all these new houses/businesses are being built in the swamplands. We have to "muck and fill" these areas every day of the week. Your house/business will sink, crack etc in a very short time. All the New Englanders that are used to paying $8,000/mo for a studio apartment are moving here think they're getting a discount is actually messing up the economy for the rest that are making less than $20/hr and cant afford $2,000+/mo. It's a huge bubble that is going to burst one day soon. The last 3 minutes of this video should be included in the Gospel though.

Summerville is 20 miles from Charleston, Mt Pleasant is only across the river from Charleston. This can be found out by looking at a map prior to purchasing a house.

The truth is the beaches are either private or too damn crowded to get onto there is NO PARKING. But its a great place to get your car stolen or load up on fentanyl. This guy is a real estate broker

Come visit and try driving around Clermont Florida and see what Summerville is going to be like in 10 short years. Overbuilding will destroy Summerville the same way! No beltways around the major highways will result in huge traffic messes. You think 526 is bad now?

I am also from Northern California. And live in Summerville because it was more affordable. But we are getting our finances in order to also move to mount pleasant. It’s a lot more like marine county in California. The vibe. Higher end shopping. More dining. Closer to the beach and downtown Charleston. I even drive weekly from here to go to the Trader Joe’s there. 😅

That open shower would be a turn off. The whole bathroom would get soaked. Next! I can't wait to move to Summerville and have followed you for a bit over a year. I thing this is the place for me. However, how do you deal with the bugs? What about poisoned critters? Snakes, spiders etc.

Are you saying that the house is cheaper because there’s no amenity center up and running? Or are you saying you lock into a lower HOA if you’re one of the first in the community?

LOVE this story! Please share with anybody who is thinking about moving here (especially from the Northeast!) Those of us that are actually "FROM here" have just about ran out of "Southern hospitality". We are quickly becoming a minority. The sprawl is Ridiculous! It wasn't always this way. Ironically, the "nightmare" traffic is caused by the flood of people coming in. If you're a "COME here" (yes that's a phrase) and you start complaining about traffic around us; take a look around .. that look you're getting is called " THE STINK EYE". Ask any "from here" if their life is better now than it was before, and you will get an "ear full". We used to invite friends & family down for our local festivals, but we don't even bother any more. As a matter of fact, we go to great lengths to avoid going through Summerville. It's sad that our hometown has gotten so bad that it's just not worth the Hustle & Bustle. For those who are still contemplating the move, please consider this: Please leave your Weather, Culture, & Politics UP THERE! Bless your heart
