hello ! I’m a first year journalism student and I just wanted to ask lang po is it okay lang po ba if a person has given consent to the media about their personal life? and ano pong magiging basis dito according to the data privacy act of the Philippines? thank you po! sana po masagot…
Consent should be in writing and not just verbal so as not to be affected by data privacy act. Also, the person should be an adult with ability to give full consent.
Thank you, dear Dr. Rachel! The real problem is never addressed; everything we've ever been taught is lies and half truths. The true roots of our civilizations have been carefully kept from us for many millennia by corrupt elite families, corrupt religions-governments and politicians, corrupt systems at every level, by their Conrollers. Thankfully this is changing. Here in the US, some truth is actually breaking through LM legacy media aka MSM. Lots of house cleaning is being done in the quiet background. Better days are coming F A S T !!
Really? I thought it was the opposite, too much disinformation out there.
Thank you prof 🎉❤
You're welcome 😊
But why the hatred of the people against the friars. Why did many of them handle the Mausers and Remingtons during the 1896 revolution?

Hello Prof Rachel! I need to do my undergrad thesis and I feel completely lost. I want to do an analysis of American news coverage utilizing the Framing theory but Im totally lost on what concrete topic to pick to make it realistic and feasible. Do you have any tips?
Choose just one issue so as to be able to use framing correctly. For example, stories about shootings or stories about gun control.
Hi mam I am from South africa a student in UFS, I had an assignments based on this theory and i used your video to understand the theory for the assignment and i got 43/50 🎉thank you so much
You are welcome :-) Please share link with your classmates.
Thank you for your best explanation now I understand all normative theories
Thank you very much. Please share link with your classmates.
Hello, Ma'am! In my opinion, the use of AI anchors suggests that we are in an era of hyperdigitalization. Though the use of humanlike computer images engages our senses as if we are listening to or conversing with a fellow human being, it also creates a dissonance in terms of what constitutes reality while also further influencing our concept of time-space; its limitations and extending boundaries.
Yup, since McLuhan only reached the TV era, we have to stretch his theory to encompass the AI era. :-) The more appropriate theory may be Everett's Diffusion of Innovation.

Who setts the agenda for media? Is there any country that Democrat it let its media to sett the agenda?what can the risks be in democratic free media can outside influencer use ones media against a country itself eg by paying the media to influence negatively?
In a democracy, each media institution sets its own agenda...usually echoing values of its owners.
@@AskProfRachel thank you
Offering critique to the ideas presented here would be good "content" but would also serve to increase the spread of this knowledge: -You could still communicate with other people outside your tribe by oral communication. -Writing serves an elite who can read, until this becomes the standard, and as such oral communication remains important. There are likely other critiques that you can come up with!
This is simply an explanation of McLuhan's theory not about my stand on communication. No problem communicating with other tribe, if you go visit them or they come visit you.
Seems quite interesting, however doesn't grab attention well *enough* compared to competition. I suggest high contrast between elements, and for the elements to be kept in motion and simple to the eye; the text should be like this too. and nearly always: better audio quality
Thank you for your suggestions, this is primarily for my own class purposes and not a money-making venture...I have limited equipment
bakit 40 years pa pagitan bago nakabalik yun re enforcement
Dahil hindi naman talaga Pilipinas yung gusto nilang puntahan, actually historians note that the target was China and the Molucas.
also, in those days it took almost 2 years for the survivors to get back to their home country and at least 10 years to recruit sailors and gther enough funds to go back
@@AskProfRachel Sabe ng isa historian sa podcast magellan knew existence of molucas/ malacas in indonesia. because portugal are already there that time my expedition nauna written yan. He is portugese he knew that already he is looking for funds.

It’s not a theory it’s a fact
Theories are a result of studying phenomena...the facts are in the phenomenon and you can apply a theory to see if it applies to the phenomenon youa re studying.
@@AskProfRachelthinking scientifically, does the term “theory” imply that it hasn’t been proven? In social sciences when can we determine a theory to be true?
As I said, a theory is an idea used to account for a situation or justify a course of action. What you prove as true or false is the use of the theory in a given situation...e.g. was this story framed to support the journalist's bias?
Very interesting video. Thank you for sharing. It is appreciated
Thanks

New AI Cyber terrorist weapons such as those along the lines of Pegasus or that cause Havana Syndrome with Frey Effect need to be legislated for.
Thank you ma'am! may I ask where can we categorize student publications of public universities in these theories?
The theory is designed as a study for the nation-state..it cannot be applied to individual publications.
What are the assumptions of this theory
For news media (in the ideal sense), the assumption is that there is not enough space/time to publish/air everything that is going on, therefore editors have to decide which issues or events to write about...hence, gatekeeping (see 2:11 in the video).
Thanks ma'am. Love from the National University of Science and Technology( Zimbabwe)

Is this theory correct? Is the media the one setting the agenda for the country? Are they the ones determining what we are talking about or not? Or is it the politician? Or is it us who has more say on it?
@Ask Prof. Rachel
@@jelpanaligan364 As indicated in the video, the agenda is set by the news values, i.e. timeliness, importance or significance, prominence and proximity. Most often the agenda is set by those in power who become newsmakers..the media can either echo this or if they are more perceptive, tell the public what is behind the scenes. In any case, you should not see "media" as if it is only one entity, since private media compete with one another. Government media, on the other hand, will set the agenda based on what politicians tell them.
@@jelpanaligan364 The media plays a significant role in setting the agenda for a country by determining what stories are covered and how they are framed. The media can influence public opinion and shape the public's understanding of critical issues by choosing what topics to cover, how to cover them, and how much attention to give them. However, the media does not act in a vacuum, and its role in setting the agenda is influenced by several factors, especially political and economic pressures. For example, the media may be influenced by government officials, politicians or advertisers.
I feel like owners and media owners have more influence in public discourse than people
Mam what program did you use for the video powerpoint?
Filmora 🙂
Any relationship between framing and public sphere?
Framing can influence the way something is viewed by the public. When a news item, gossip or issue is framed in a biased way then shared on social media (public sphere), then public opinion is shaped.
thank you professor <3
First thanks for your explnation. Can you tell me the difference and simlarity of the press theorys
