Very true. 99% of the times the employer will hire someone brought by someone he/she already knows (referral). If an employee already working in the firm holds your hand and takes you to the boss, as long as the employee has a good standing with the boss/bosses, you have a clear chance of getting the job even without a good CV. Very rarely will a stranger get the job. The main reason being accountability. If a referral messes up, the boss can hold the person who brought him/her accountable and recover the loss. If a stranger messes up, the boss has no way to recoup his loss. Thus employers feel safer to hire someone brought by a person they know than to hire a total stranger. Instead of spending so much time online looking for jobs, spend time building and updating your professional network. It goes a long way

I’ve been with a company for close to 11 years, unhappy for a majority of my time spent here and tomorrow is finally my last day. I feel so sick with anxiety, the grief and guilt are going wild, I’m grateful that everyone around me has been cheering on the decision, but I’m absolutely not comfortable with putting myself first, for not having another job lined up right away..I feel like I’m ruining my life and throwing so much away..as if all the time put in wound up being for nothing. Though I know things will work out, I can’t shake these huge feelings of disappointment ☹️ ..which is crazy, I want to feel relief for breaking free. I’ve been unappreciated, taken advantage of, and feel completely value-less with this job, I don’t feel like I have the energy to sell myself into a higher role or picking up a job anywhere else right now. I just want to crawl into a hole.

Started a new job 2 months ago, realised it wasn't the job for me after 2 weeks. I've always been in jobs for a least 5 years, so have been struggling with the idea of not sticking it out. After week 2 I have already been logging in on the weekends and not logging off until 10pm some nights, just to meet deadlines. It's affecting my m/h and I'm not sleeping well. The culture is toxic and very micromanagey so I have started looking for another job, even if it means taking a pay cut. It's definatley going to be hard because I've worked my way up but I think it's the right decision. Thank you for reaffirming everything I've been feeling and why ❤
