Hoppy Trails Tug
Приєднався 16 гру 2022
Welcome aboard Hoppy Trails! We are a family of 3 (and a dog) exploring the country by water in our Ranger Tug R31CB.
Getting our Ranger Tug ready for the Great Loop! Plus - a quick trip to the Mississippi Headwaters
Before we can begin our year-long adventure around the Great Loop, we need to haul out or Ranger Tugs R31CB to make sure she's ready for a year underway. We also take a quick weekend camping getaway to explore where the Misssissippi River begins at Itasca State Park!
There's a lot of work to do before leaving land life behind, but after weeks of projects, packing, and preparation, it is nearly time to depart. We celebrate with friends and family, as well as a very special birthday, and the day is finally here! Join us as we begin our Great Loop adventure.

Great video. Don't keep us waiting too long for the next one. You guys are awesome 😁
Thanks, I'm working on it!
I get the idea of the electric dinghy motor. After a year do you still like it? How do you usually charge it and do you have a second battery. We chose same weight but a 2.5 hp 4stroke as it was only 800 bucks and a good start even though our Takacat will handle up to 8hp. I see the value of both as the electric is same hp but quiet but needs charging. I carry a one or two one liter MSR fuel bottles on the dinghy for extended range that can take me more than than three hours of range if I take both liter fuel bottles.
Yes! No regrets with the electric motor. It's convenient to charge underway or while connected to shore power - quiet - no oil changes - light weight and easy to install/remove. Sure, your range isn't huge and you're limited to slow speeds, but I don't really want to sit in the dinghy for hours, anyway! We had a yamaha 6hp previously and much prefer this.
Interesting they did not put a keel support under it. I agree, it would make me nervous. Never seen that before. Your bottom looks great. We have a 19 R29CB and will be watching your adventure. Munising Pictured Rocks Lake Superior is our haling port but we trailer and with OW permits anything is possible.
I'm looking forward to your videos. We did the loop in our R27 in 22 and 23
You are correct. Very sketchy. They should have installed chains on the jacks. Thank you for bringing us along.
Yay! Just came across your channel and can’t wait to see more of your Great American Loop experiences! Ya’ll are adorable and your videos are great quality! Safe travels!!
Thank you!
We will be following along! Would be sweet to see like a monthly Q/A video on your trip.
Thanks! I don’t know if we can swing Q/A’s monthly, but we’d certainly be happy to put together something periodically if we get enough Q’s!
We enjoyed the beginning of the adventure and look forward to your future videos. Take care.
I saw this pop up just as he posted it as well. Safe travels. I hope you guys have fun and make lots of memories. My wife and I are in the process of getting an R31S. It'll be a while. Her name will be Hunters Pace.
They’re great boats! I’m sure you’ll love it. Thanks for the kind comment, maybe we’ll see you out there some day!
Great video! Can't believe I pulled up youtube right when you uploaded. Looking forward to more awesome river boating!
Thanks for following! I’m getting a little faster at putting these out 😋
@Hop_Tug you guys make the exact kind of boating content I love, so take your time my follow isn't going anywhere!
I’m really looking forward to this one. I’m interested in Ranger Tugs and the Great Loop so a win win in my book. Keep the vids coming.
It was nice meeting you guys and your beautiful boat in Port St. Joe.
Good to see a familiar face! Port St. Joe was a great stop, hard to believe it’s almost been a year already!
@@Hop_Tug Yes it's really flown by, the baby has really grown. Stop in again sometime.
awesome!! great video
Florida??? Awesome!
So that's why your not on the big lake right now. Good for you on the loop. I look forward to your videos. We have followed "What Yacht to do" channel on the loop. They are very informative and experts I'd say. Be safe and take care.
Yeah! What Yacht to Do is a great channel - they really cover the nuts and bolts of thing you should know for looping 👍🏻
love this.. safe travels looks amazing
Loved your comment when you were talking to your future daughter. Made me laugh. My wife and I are future boaters, R31S for us. Keep up the videos. Thanks
Great video! Hoping this is a harbinger of some Great Loop content
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
500 miles. Excellent. Cheers.
Loved the video. Good job!
Nice you are back. I so enjoy your stories. A beautiful boat she is.
Nice trip. Glad you had wonderful trip. I look forward to seeing you again at the Washburn marina or out in the islands next time you make it up. Take care.
would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on your dinghy and electric motor…range, reliability, and recharging. thanks again for your wonderful videos and sharing your beautiful family’s adventures. I agree with others that you have achieved a great balance between your personal adventures while keeping the boating experience and information at the forefront, seems simple but so many lose that focus…bravo to your inherent discipline on the "message". Best wishes to you and your family’s future journeys..that little girl is going to have an incredible head start in life because of your travels.
Thank you for the lovely comments! Boating season is winding down, so I plan to put out more videos soon! Regarding the dinghy and electric motor- they’re a great solution for a boat like this. It’s not particularly fast (4-5 knots, maybe?) but since the Ranger Tug has a fairly shallow draft, you’re probably not anchoring far from your destination. It’s WAY lighter and easier to install than the 6hp Yamaha we used to have. I’d estimate we get 10-15 miles on a charge, cruising at 50% power or less. I normally recharge it when we’re on dock shore power, but have used the generator occasionally.
I really enjoyed your videos, i know a young family has many time demands but I sure wish you would make a few more, maybe one telling us about your beautiful ranger tug…thanks again.
Thanks for video. Love Ranger tugs and Lake Superior
I’m ready to see if you guys go to the Bahamas. Me and my wife are looking to buy a 31 to go to the Bahamas with this exact boat
Haha! Well, spoiler alert, but I invite you to check out our Instagram account @hop_tug It’s a perfectly capable boat for the Bahamas, but since it’s designed to be trailerable, it’s more susceptible to sea conditions than a bigger, heavier boat.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together and share your adventure! Awesome job
Lovely boat you have ! Waving hello from Kingston Ont .
Thank you! We plan to be in your neck of the woods next summer 😉
Your videos are my sales pitch to my wife for getting a Ranger Tug. You do a great job at capturing the adventure and experiences off the boat, while keeping boating front and center. Thank you!
Haha, I think that’s the best compliment I’ve received about my videos! You described exactly what I’ve been aiming for. Thanks!
why did you go in the Weight Station?
My understanding of Minnesota law is that all vehicles over 10k gvw are supposed to stop. Some weigh stations actively message you to pull in, I can’t remember if this was one.
@@Hop_Tug Oh wow ok thank you for explaining. State laws varies of course. It is still odd to me. Have a nice day!
Great production, voice overs, B-rolls, and everything. This story was created by a professional!
I live near Elk River, MN and just recently discovered Ranger Tugs. Love them. The 31 CB is probably the one I would most like myself. Keep the vids coming. We went to the Apostles a couple years ago and loved it. Hoping to get to Isle Royale this year or next.
You boating summer of 2024?
Yeah, a lot! More vids coming in the fall 👍🏻
such a sweet life. And they really show and tell it.
You're anchored in front of my house in Surf City, NJ right now. Found your channel and checked out your videos..............
Ha! Well, thanks for checking us out! Hope you don’t mind if we hang out a couple days - waiting for better weather to make our way up the Hudson.
Man I've never been to Lake Superior when the water was so still
keep the videos coming
Why are you stopping at weight stations? If it's personal?
I pull over depending on what the sign says - sometimes they say “all vehicles over xxx lbs” or it’s a digital sign that specifically directs me to exit for the station. I figure it’s better to stop when unnecessary vs the other way around!
Vid on purchasing your boat?
Windigo is now renamed. Good luck pronouncing it. Ozaagaateng. I think I spotted Captain Matt on The Voyageur 2 in Rock Harbor.
No kidding! Well, I guess that’s what happens when you take 2 years to make a video… 😝 I guess we’ll have to go back!
So glad you're back with video. Great content keep it up,
Looking forward to the Apostle Islands
Great videos. What nav chart app do you use?
Thanks! I primarily use Navionics - it shows more detail in the depth contours. Aquamaps is a great product too, I like it for route planning.
@@Hop_Tug thank you very much.
I really enjoyed that tour of the Island. Well done and thanks for sharing. I hope you stop by Washburn Marina and get out in the islands again this year. Maybe I'll see you again. I'm looking forward to EP 4. Take care.
Thank you! I’m afraid this summer will find us elsewhere, but we do look forward to returning! Maybe next time we’ll stay the whole summer 👍🏻
Another great vid, I've been following your Instagram pics and hoping you made more videos of these stunning areas
I towed a camano troll from Jacksonville Florida to Vancouver bc with my old dodge welding truck. What an adventure.
That’s a long haul!
Bad boaters everywhere. Anywhere near shore kids should have vests. Only takes one runaway boar. Coming from a commercial fisherman. Great memories cheers
That's some lake.
When I had my Ranger Tug I would usually break my trip to Isle Royale into a two day trip. GM to Horseshoe Bay day one then onto The Island day 2. Good times.
How long would you normally spend in Isle Royale?
@@Hop_Tug I have a friend with one of the remaining cabins on the island. :)
