I love your honesty, because most people don't explain their grades in public like that, they assume it is private.
Una pregunta, nunca decidiste aplicar a ninguna escuela de medicina en Puerto Rico? Porque no?
I have a 3.38 cumulative GPA undergrad, so I am just studying for the MCAT. I know my GPA is not high, but I think there are schools that accept low GPA as long as the GPA is above 3.0.
i'm just having fun and dating around nyc meanwhile... lol

How long did it take you to complete postbacc taking 2 classes per semester?
Congratulations!! I am just curious if you think going to an ivy also makes a difference. Do you think med schools liked the fact that you went to an ivy; did it help? Also, when did you decide to do a post bacc, first semester of senior year? I am kinda lost cuz I am a junior and and extremely lost what I should do. Currently have a cum 3.5 and 3.35 sgpa
You only had one LoR for all those schools?? I thought most wanted 3?
Just curious what an average day looked like between med school insiders. Anki. Uworld. And aamc. Did you do all of them each day?
Can you speak to your email to mount sinai about Emory’s offer?
Hello, I subscribed because your video was really helpful. I was wondering if you can make a video about your post bacc experience. The cost, the time it took, how you came to the decision to do a post bacc program.
I Really enjoyed this!!! Your demeanor is very authentic and non imposing
Although I'm not into medical school, I always find people sharing their AMCAS application so fascinating. Wish the best for you in your medical school journey.
I got COVID the last week of school and I died lol. Worse sickness I’ve ever had. Gotta lock in though gang. Feels bad you know, you only experience med school orientations once but hopefully you can meet and catch up with other students and faculty. Ey si se puede. 99’ gang 🎉
99' club, nice to meet a fellow old young person lol
I loved watching this and i’m excited to see you posting more! I wish u best on ur next quiz and I know u got this girl!!!
You got this Amanda! Keep your head up!!
Thank you for sharing! You’re such an inspiration
Thanks for being so real, Amanda! Tough start, but you’ve got the strength to bounce back. Keep going-you’ve got this! 💪📚
¡Mucho éxito, vas a estar mejor!
A 518 on the MCAT? ¡Buen trabajo!
Heyy! Great video. I noticed you have a lot of research related ec’s. How did you land these awesome opportunities??
Congratulations!! I really want to go to Emory! I have a low gpa and am trying to figure out what to do. I would love to talk to you more if you’d be willing regarding a post bacc!
@@hellopachia Of course! You can email me at amanda28paredes@gmail.com or you can book a video consultation with the link in my description!
OMG AND FULL TUITION!!!! GIRL I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU
Hi! For the C- you got in biochem, did you retake that? I have one C- for intro bio :(
Thank you for sharing - I was wondering to ask for some advice as a non traditional with a low GPA with a strong upward trend. I’ve been worried with an overall cumulative gpa of 3.18 after a post bac, 3.4 science gpa (due to taking a lot of sciences later), and a 507 MCAT with a low CARS. I feel confident with the rest of my application, just worried about my stats, especially the low GPA. I have averaged a 3.8 GPA for the last 70 units - my freshman and sophomore GPA were very poor, but I am not the same student during that time. Should I be worried about not getting into an allopathic medical school or an interview? I know DO medical schools would be a good fit for me from what I have been told. However, I have always aimed to get to allopathic medical schools. Sorry for a lot of the information, and thank the for the content and help.
URM?
Thank you for sharing this. Currently have a 3.18 cumulative GPA with a strong upward trend after a post bac. I contemplate whether I should have gone for a special masters program, but I have averaged a 3.8 for the last 70 units. My GPA previously was very low before my junior and senior year where I raised it. Scored a 507 MCAT with a low CARS section. Hoping the application cycle goes well.
so how does your application go?
Hello, it’s going well! Still have to hear a lot from other schools with is nerve wrecking but the process can take time for some students - I’ve gotten three interviews including one of my top picks, and an acceptance at an osteopathic medical school. I’m really excited :)
My undergrad GPA is 3.38 and I am working as a medical laboratory scientist at a hospital right now. Any suggestions on how to improve my GPA, or I can apply as it is.
@@teweldenegusse1345 I feel like I can’t answer for you - it depends on a lot of things like your trend. What I can say though is that doing a post baccalaureate , and doing WELL on it, can only help you by demonstrating academic rigor and getting you ‘foot in the door’. What I mean by foot in the door is through linkage programs and committee letters. But the idea of doing a post bac baccalaureate should revolve around demonstrating an ability to handle the rigors. If you had a poor trend, then it MIGHT be necessary, but I can’t fully answer it for you. My best advice would be to get a lot of feedback from mentors, doctors, medical students, etc. what I can say is that for myself it was almost necessary if I didn’t want to go to a Caribbean medical school. That is literally what a doctor that I shadowed told me which was hard to take. To put into perspective, I had a 3.00 GPA before the post baccalaureate and I didn’t know until after about special mastered programs. I already had 70 units of a 3.8, so you can imagine how terrible my grades were in the beginning to have my overall GPA at barely a 3.00. At that GPA doing a SMP might have been better. What I think helped me was the strong upward trend. Your GPA isn’t the worse, trust me. All things considered, it’s not considered competitive for allopathic but neither was mines and people have gotten in with a GPA like that. Don’t give up & stay strong! Also, if you don’t have a lot of units and you can get your GPA at a 3.5 or very close to with a post baccalaureate ,I think it might be worth considering - that’s what I would do though. Good luck!
Thank you 👍
Hi Amanda! During my gap years I’m also looking to work as a clinical research coordinator. Did you have to get any certifications? I have prior experience as a clinical research assistant, but I’m not sure if that would be enough. Also, as a CRC were you able to get published?
@@MariaAntoniaRiveraAgudelo-x6m I did not need any certifications! And no I was not
Hi, did you take a gap year?
Yes she did a postbac
I was in the past cycle as well, watching your vids while doing it myself. We even interviewed at some of the same places! I’ll be in NYC for school as well so maybe we’ll run into each other. Congratulations on everything!
Congratulations to you as well! :)
Congratulations! I can’t begin to explain how helpful this video was! As a pre-med senior with a 3.28 GPA and 8,000 hours of experience as an EMT do you think I need to do a post-bacc? I know it depends on a lot of factors but do you personally feel like this GPA would be acceptable. I still have to do my MCAT in January! I struggled through a lot of personal obstacles too, that I can mention in my personal statement
email me at amanda28paredes@gmail.com!
hey, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing where/how you did clinical hours in the penn area? currently struggling to find a position closeby that i dont have to be certified to apply to :((
hey! email me at amanda28paredes@gmail.com
Hi can you make the google sheet with the medical school list unprotected, so it can be copied?
Congrats. The scholarship makes it sweet. There is a big weightage to factors like ethnicity, gender, economic disadvantage etc. in admissions; so, I'd ask people to discover their own paths and not necessarily to assume what works for one will work for them.
You have a great story. Sorry to hear about your dad but you have persevered through the hardship. And great job trying to help other aspirants. Congrats!
This had the most twists I’ve ever seen in a med school decision video 😂 Congratulations, these are amazing results. I’m matriculating as well next year
I’m applying this cycle. I really like BU. I like the patient population. Any other tips you can give to stand out there? I already pre-wrote secondaries for it too.
hello amanda, thank u for sharing. I’m graduating with my bachelors this next fall semester, if i study after that to take it in may, do you think it will be possible, or should i take it later?
I have been watching you and I am so happy you got into the school you wanted.
Muchas felicidades, una gran bendición lo de la beca. Saludos desde Puerto Rico.
Did you apply to any other schools in Florida?
I applied to UMiami!
CONGRATS!!! This is so inspiring!!!
Congratulations!!
I was soooooo stuck! Call it writers block, but now I have so many ideas and I can’t thank you enough girly!!
Hi Amanda, congratulations on acceptance into your dream school, truly happy for you. I am ready now ready to study for MCAT as I just finished my finals. I have very limited financial resources to spend on MCAT but after watching your "How I Scored a 518 on the MCAT", I am convinced and leaning towards buying the MedSchool Insider's MCAt prep course as this course seems legit. I wanted to get your blessings and reaffirmation recommending this course? Please help, as I am about to drop $1300 for the course haha...Thank you so much!
Hi! I personally loved the course. I am not sponsored or anything like that lol but I truly thought it was great. That being said, you can get an excellent MCAT score using less costly resources. You could always start off with Kaplan or Princeton books and see how it goes. If it’s not your cup of tea, you can go with the MSI course. But in short, yes, I recommend it, but it’s by no means necessary to score well.
@@amandaparedesmed Thank you so much Amanda for your response. Honestly, I am not big on reading and reading book after book, and see what sticks. The most excited feature of this course to me was that it seems to be "straight to the point" no more or no less material wise to score well on MCAT. Since I am also enrolling in a post-bac program, I think this course will help me save time at the end. I will make sure to let them know that I heard about the course from you, may be you will be their spokesperson hahah...Thank you so much again! I was so excited and happy when I watched this video about your acceptances. It made me realize that there is light at the end of the tunnel..!
It was crazy seeing this video, cause we were in the same place, experiencing similar things academically at the same time. We probably walked by each other on campus. Amazing how small the pre-med world can be. Thank you for the breakdown and video.
You are literally an inspiration to me. Please upload more videos on tips to getting into med school!! I am so glad I found you here and have someone to look upto!
do you do last minute reviews? (last minute as in the next 3 days)
