    Under what circumstances would you want the "spiked words" REMOVED or CUT from the doc? I would want to spike a sentence or two from different areas of a doc to COPY them to another area. Is that possible instead of just "moving them? If so how? Thank you Allen.

    Thank you, Allen, for this quick tip. I assume, but do not know, that more than one word at a time can be added to the spike, i.e., instead of selecting “embed,” you could have selected the entire sentence in which the word was located, and add the sentence to spike for later “pasting”? Also, can you add text to spike and then “paste” the text in another document? Thanks again for this helpful, much lesser known, Word utility.😊

      You can, indeed, choose more than one word at a time. (Sorry if that was unclear.) And, to the best of my knowledge, you can "spike" from one document to another.

    Hello Allen: Thanks for another helpful video about Word, specifically, how to print multiple pages on one sheet of paper. I wonder if, when one sets the print dialogue to print 4 pages per sheet, does that particular setting become the default until you change it back? In other words, the next time I go to print a document, must I change the 4 pages per sheet back to 1 page per sheet? There are times when I’ve set the print dialogue a certain way with regard to a specific document but forgot to “set it back” to what it was before I made the change. And when I went to print another document, my prior change was applied to the next document. Would this also be the case with this setting: number of document pages per printed page? Thanks again, sir. Jay

      Off the top of my head, I think that the setting is persistent for the current session with Word. When you restart the program, I think it goes back to one page per sheet.

    In principle, I think that it's a better practice to create character styles for character formatting, especially when you are trying to have consistent formatting for the same type of text. For example, you want all dates to be bold. Create a "Date" character style and assign all of your dates to that character style. The reason why I do this is if I have to change all dates to bold *and* italic, all I have to do is edit the date character style. Otherwise, I have to manually update all of the dates.

    Hello Allen: Thanks again for a very useful video about Building Blocks. I have a question: What is the purpose of the “Edit Properties” button within the Building Blocks Organizer dialog box? I recall you saying during the video that Word doesn’t really allow one to modify a building block; one simply needs insert the building block one wishes to edit into a document and then edit it as one wishes, then save it as a building block with the same name. But, near the end of the video, you opened the building block organizer a final time and that’s when I noticed the “edit properties” button. What is the purpose of that button? Thanks again.

    • @wordtips2907
      @wordtips2907 2 місяці тому

      Click on it, and you get (essentially) the same dialog box displayed when you first added the Building Block. Very little to be "edited" there, and certainly not the content of the Building Block itself.

    I have a short, horizontal gray line in the left margin next to some, but not all numbered paragraphs. The line prints with the page. I can't figure out how to get rid of it; it is not the vertical line associated with edited text in track changes. When I hover over the line the small font/formatting menu appears with the drop down paragraph numbering icon highlighted, but it's not clear why that line appears next to some but not all of the numbered paragraphs. Help. None of these videos seems to address this, and I can't find any help with the Word help info for characters or lines in the margin.

    Hi! I have a footer that contains three drawn text boxes, two of which contains images. Ctrl+A and copy paste does not work with this design. Neither am I manging to select all of the footer content and copy paste. Do you have any recommendations for my situation? Thank you :)

    • @wordtips2907
      @wordtips2907 3 місяці тому

      That fact you have objects (primarily the text boxes) in your footer means that the Ctrl+A approach won't work. This is because graphic elements (such as text boxes) reside on a different document layer than the text within the footer. The bottom line is that the only way to do the copying of which I'm aware would be to create a macro to select everything and then paste it into other documents.
