How to Plant a GreenStalk Vertical Planter | Step by Step
hi susie 🤗 this is a very timely video. ill be refreshing my vertical planters next month to prepare for early spring. tfs
Yay! We're so glad this video was helpful 💚
I'm in zone 9 - southeast Texas. During the summer, I know it's going to be hot from day to day. I don't need to know how hot. Winters, on the other hand, are unpredictable. They're usually pretty mild, but we can get a hard freeze or two. For us, that's a low of around 28F... It's nice to know I don't need to move my Greenstalk strawberries unless it gets especially cold.
This is really good advice. Thanks!!
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the tips. I stunt have a garage or any indoor space where I can move them so the burlap n frost cover idea sounds like my best bet... we'll see
That should certainly help! If we can help with anything, please don't hesistate to reach out. Happy Gardening!
Thank you.
You're welcome! Happy Gardening!
You grew sunflowers in your Greenstalk?
Yes! It was fun to try and we are growing them again now for our Fall Festival coming up soon.
Mine is still going strong. Central Indiana. Zone 6.
Yay! We love to hear that :)
I have several GreenStalk planters and like the plant supports to support and expand insect covers over the planters. I tried to put the plant support on the lower tier of the leaf planter, but the arm wouldn't snap onto the pocket corners like it does on the original planter. This video was helpful to see how to insert the arm on the leaf. Thank you for this video. God bless.
We're so happy to hear this video was helpful. If you have any further questions, we'd be happy to help at support@greenstalkgarden.com Happy Gardening!
Am refreshing all my GreenStalks, one by one, as the summer crops taper off. This summer I did an experiment to see just how much neglect a GreenStalk can take, made a video about it, some interesting learnings! Check it out when you have a moment!
Thank you so much for sharing about your GreenStalk Garden! We will have to watch your latest video <3
@@GreenStalkGarden I hope you do! It's titled "The top 10 mistakes new GreenStalk gardeners make".
Everything looks awesome!
Can you plant regular hanging plants in that also 😊
Yes! Most plants that can be grown in containers may also be grown in an Original GreenStalk Vertical Planter.
What varieties did well for you?
I'm curious how native flowers/ seeds would do in the pockets. I want to attract pollinators, but native.
You can stick right in the dirt too
I will try this next summer this is very convincing.
Will be trying that today
Yummy strawberry😊❤❤❤
Wonderful 👍🏻❤
Super harvesting strawberries❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Wow, that's a beautiful great job
Greenstalks are the best!!!! ❤🎉
I just received my Greenstalk! Super excited! However, I didn’t receive a cap for the bottom reservoir
Pro tip - rotating the green stalks is typically a main attribute to growing in them. With the auto watering system, all the hose clips placed on one side of the planter isn’t needed to keep the vertical water line in place, so use one every other pot (or tier) and take the others and put them on the opposite side of the planter (or buy extra clips and place them on opposite sides of each other on the planter). When time to rotate the planter, simply remove the vertical hose from the clips, spin planter around to other side, clip water line back in on the opposite side. Bam, back in business.
Thank you for this tip! Greenstalk should give you some kind of compensation lol. I've been contemplating getting the watering system but the rotating business was holding me back. Your tip makes perfect sense and now I'm off to buy one!
@@kategerber2893 Awesome, thanks for the kind words Kate. I was an early adopter and purchased two of them several years ago when they first started getting popular. I grow a wide variety in mine pretty much year round. A lot of what i plant grows wide so i have the snap on support system as well for both and both have the auto water system as well. I have both set on a B-Hyve brand timer that automatically waters both twice a day and can be controlled from an app on my phone. My suggestion is when you decide to water them, water them twice in a row, essentially turn on the water to them for about a minute (you may have to experiment with this based on your hose pressure but 1 min on my system fills a six tier green stalk just about to the top of the watering tray, for me anything longer than a min will overflow the top bowl), after that wait about five minutes then repeat again, watering for another 1 minute then done until they need water again (this can be automated via programing on a hose bib mounted timer). Another handy tool is soil moisture sensors, i have two of those in my greenstalks (one in each at the mid tier). The ones I have are "ecowitt" brand, they take a single AA battery and you push them into the soil and can monitor the soil moisture levels on your phone and even setup alerts to notify you if your garden gets below a soil moisture threshold so you can water. Good luck growing!!
I just got my new PINK GreenStalk. I’m so excited 🩷 I’m setting it up tomorrow.
My wife sent me here... I think I just fell for the modern version of "finding a jewelry Magazine with a page dog eared" 🤣🤣🤣🥰👰🏼😳
Baby!! 😂🤣🥰😘 But! We're going to love these. 😉🤗
We can thank Miss Becky at Acre Homestead. 😁👍

She’s a smart lady.
Where do you put the coupon code in to get $10 off $100 order?
Many influencers who sell them have referral codes. Jess of Roots and Refuge has the code ROOTS10 to get $10 off orders (believe there's an order min. of $50, or perhaps $75).
How big is the box for the 5 level and the 7 level greenstalk?
I just received my 1st Greenstalk today!! I am so excited yo get started. I am picking up my fertilizer/ dirt. What fertilizer/ soil does everyone else use, any suggestions? I was using happy frog in my garden but moved and got this. It was my birthday and I got Mr. Stacky as well & a couple other beautiful planters so I will be having fun the next few days or so.
I had one loved it and when they came on sale I ordered 3 more. I will be growing so much this New Year I love this product.
I just ordered three of these! The inventor's bundle - let's see how this goes. I'm excited.🥰🥰
Makes it kind of difficult to rotate the Greenstalk around, especially with a setup that connects multiple Greenstalks.
I was wondering how that worked. Do you disconnect them to turn them? Anxiously awaiting my planters and spring set up!
You can get tubing from the hardware store to make it so you can turn.

Could you guys try it again, this time with it filled with garden soil? Also, on a planter that's been used for like, a few years?
I wish you guys would knock it off with the sales! Ahahahaha! I can't control myself.
🤣 Right?! I just took the plunge and can't wait to get started. I propagated a bunch of strawberry plants this summer, and my original plan for over-wintering them had to change due to critter invasion. I've been wanting a Greenstalk for several years, but I just couldn't afford one till today. Added one of their spinner bases, which I had previously purchased for a large potted Blueberry plant, earlier this year. Having a wood slated deck, I needed the base without wheels. The spinner base has been a game changer for me as a Senior Citizen. Thanks, Greenstalk!
@@chachadodds5860I've watched UA-cam channels and seen comments where people have like 14 of these things. I started with the addiction last summer, and I planted mostly herbs in my original GS. I love the way it looks. It's so gorgeous with the lemon balm and mints. I planted a pineapple sage that got huge. I didn't have much luck with strawberries in my leaf planter though. I'm thinking the tiny alpine strawberries would grow better in the leaf planters.
I went to order another greenstalk in the mint green but you no longer carry that color. Disappointed.
Hello! We are bringing back several discontinued colors - including the Luscious Green color - in just a few weeks.
oh brother!!
Under what circumstances do you plug the bottom of the unit so the water doesn’t drain out. Also, when do you keep the tube in for drainage? Thanks
Awesome! What's next? Blessings, julie
How many bags of soil did you have to ise for each bowl?
8 gallons per tier fits perfectly
What is the difference between the mover and the spinner with wheels?
Yep, just posted my unboxing video today 😊
I just bought a Greenstalk which arrived yesterday! I can't wait to set it up and get started. Love the video! Thanks!!
Are they made from raisin?
Golden 😊
Interesting
I find misting the pockets after watering from the top helps keep pockets fulling watered. After first setting up Greenstalk I water and listen to how the water flows. If it’s too fast or drains too quickly I check to see if it’s level. I also use the hose at the bottom to direct water away from the planters wheels and off the porch. This winter I’ve notice some water standing in the reservoir, which birds have decided is a new drinking spot. Probably not level, but not a concern currently.
