She is really an amazing singer. She sounds like she was clasically trained. She can probably handle Phantom of the Opera (Christine) or any broadway act, really. It was just her lack of PR training that turned a lot of people off 😅

So I've been thinking about why Rachel Zegler's performance didn't "work" for me despite her being such a talented vocal performer, and after re-watching both Kristin Chenoweth and Ariana Grande perform this song I think I know why: it's because Rachel sounds too sincere when singing this. She may have the voice of an angel, but she outright sounds like a Disney princess here, which IMO isn't the right tone for this song. In the musical, Glinda is supposed to be wildly "fake" while singing No one Mourns the Wicked. She's only putting up a facade for the Munchkins and is internally mourning the loss of her best friend. Rachel somewhat fell short on conveying Glinda's "fake-ness" IMO- there are parts in this video clip that make me feel like she's outright celebrating Elphaba's death with the Munchkins. On the other hand, I think Kristin and Ariana both nailed Glinda's "fake-ness" in different ways: Kristin's Glinda sounding somewhat bitter and sarcastic, while Ari's sounding heartbroken and regretful. I see a lot of people saying that Rachel sung this better than Ariana did, which I think is fair, but we have to remember that there is a lot more to performing a musical number than just hitting all the notes and vibrato perfectly. It takes understanding of the character's psychology in the context of the overall story, which I feel Ariana did much better than Rachel.

She has not been trained properly with bel canto for opera at all her voice is way too pop her sound is not resonating at all in three major categories tongue posture is off throat is not quite open enough for that deep resonating opera sound that just SHATTERS the windows and living daylights out of all life. That’s the power of vocal technique ANYWAYS, HOWEVER that said dude she still sounds great 👍 has CRAZY potential if cultivated correctly! Haha ❤️‼️👍
