Cruising Sunrise
Australia

Slightly older retired Australian couple, sell up buy a catamaran and learn as we cruise the world.
Cruising Malaysia, exploring cultures, snorkelling and rainforest on tropical Islands
We had a look around Terengganu in the north east of mainland Malaysia, exploring its Chinese temples and mural walks, highlighting its close relationship with turtles and their desire to protect them. We visited a traditional wooden boat building business, right on the beach in the harbour. We were amazed at their skill in working with large heavy Malaysian hardwood to make the beautifully shaped hulls of the traditional wooden fishing boats. We go to Singapore to collect Phoebe and together explore food and the architectural and cultural marvels of Chinatown. A visit to the enormous and varied Gardens by the Bay was mindblowing. The Cloud Garden has about 10 stories of misty mountain vegetation and waterfalls spraying people with light mist. Year of the Dragon festivities are in full swing including magnificent floral displays and sound and light shows at night. Then we make our way through the Singapore straits to Sibu Island where we meet the resort owner and staff. We go to Pulau Tinggi to snorkel the marvels including strong currents and magificent marine life. We go to Tioman Island, walk through the rainforest to see the rare and magnificent Rafflessia flower, go to island to snorkel the massive granite rocks and the hugely diverse coral and marine life including the giant barracuda being followed by sharks and some turtles. Phoebe is fearless in duck diving and exploring, creating memories (and spoiling her, for future snorkelling which won't be as good as Tioman). We explore the south of Tioman and walk to a waterfall and pools where we're the only people. We stroll through the beachside village to understand more about Malaysian life including staying far enough away from monkeys to not have our food taken but close enough to observe them monkeying around from tree to tree.

Boat export and Cruising Tropical Islands.
Переглядів 6 тис.10 місяців тому
As our boat was built in Thailand, we didn't have a port clearance from our previous port. This required us to ''export'' our boat which involves taking the boat to another country and checking us and the boat into that country. We chose Cambodia because it was closer to Pattaya incase we needed to return to Pattaya for any boat work, and also because it was closer (120nm to Cambodia compared t...

We start exploring the Islands of Thailand, they are beautiful . some of the water clarity is brilliant. learning all the systems and gadgets on the boat is a bit of a steep learning curve but things like Dockmate and Joystick control takes a lot the stress out of it, leaving us to relax kyaking, diving or swimming in beautiful warm clear water. New Power catamaran hits the water
Переглядів 16 тис.11 місяців тому
Finally, after a 2 year build in Pattaya, SE Thailand, our new Longreach 58 power catamaran is ready to hit the water. It's carefully pushed out of the factory on castor wheels by lots of helpers. The local Thai workers insisted on a religious ceremony to protect the boat and those in her. Photos were taken and the builder James Dewing from Powerplay Catamarans and the agent Andrew McLeod from ...

We have had our Yanmar engines ordered and paid for 1 year now and they finally turn up but with no controls. After much searching the world a friend of ours contacted a friend who had a contact with Yanmar International in Holland. He was Peter the owner of @Deep Water Yachts, We can not thank him enough he went to so much effort for us and got the result we were looking for. Make sure you che...

During this visit to Thailand and the boat yard we see the boat fully painted inside and out. We meet a lovely couple from Manilla who are also interested in the building of a Longreach Catamaran. We all meet with James to discuss different aspects of the construction of the boat and have another walk through tour of our Longreach 58.

We head back to Thailand to check on progress off our power catamaran and sort out some decisions that had to be made. We also needed to meet our shipping container that we had packed with all our belongings to put on our boat. We had organisied it some 5 months earlier. All our gear arrived on time and without damage. Getting our 4.3 m tender out of the container proved to be a little tricky b...
Why build a Power catamaran? Why we changed from sailing catamaran. Part 4.

After 30000 nautical of sailing around the pacific and Australia we decided to have a power catamaran built. We wanted a more purpose built catamaran for full time cruising. loosing the mast has taken some stess out of our life. But we did need to be able to cruise long distances at a good speed with a new boat, we also wanted it to be very economical. whilst changing boats we wanted it to be b...

We learn of supply chain issues that puts our delivery date back further. This time its our Yanmar engines and gear box. Selecting products and colours for our boat is a big job but we decide on 3M wrap for the cabinets, recessed locking handles, some Firgelli actuators for our electric windows, the colour of the teak and the internal flooring which is Amtico. Margy and I are offered cooking cl...

We went to Thailand to check out the build of our new longreach58 power catamaran. It was great to chat with James Dewing the boat builder and owner of @Longreach catamarans and @Powerplay Catamarans. He is very busy because of the popularity of the new brand he has designed. The Longreach comes with CE certification and Loydes certification. As we walk around the boat James explains the hull s...

I’m quite sure somebody has asked, what is the total price when completed?
Can another tender, maybe a jetski or a small rib be mounted in the space now used for the kayaks?
I see my little brother on your video hehe nice one you made it Maskelyne islands. 💪
Great filming
Awesome videos and comments guys, love the boat, keep going I'll be watching.
What boomers do to blow as much money as possible before the nursing home gets them 😂
Thank you, it sure has been a long walk between water holes but in the end always good. Great to see you back.
Thanks 👍
Beautiful video, Russ! Thanks for sharing your travels and this marvelous footage!! I would love to see that wooden boat when it’s finished. Glad to see you are out enjoying life on the Longreach. She’s gorgeous. And your diving shots are incredible. I’ve literally never snorkled or dove anywhere that’s so still and so clear. The reefs look pristine!! Great video!!
^ What she said! Good job mates!
Thanks Dee, the diving here has been amazing. wait till you see the next lot.
What an amazing adventure you two are on and what magnificent memories you have given your niece. Fair winds.
Glad you enjoyed it
Any problems with the Malaysian Marine Parks? We would like to cruise there but have heard of cruisers running into trouble there.
Nothing to speak off but make sure you follow the rules
So glad to see you guys again. What a great adventure. The snorkeling was awesome.
Thanks Barry, its great to be back!!!
I am so excited to see you both back at it and enjoying Sunrise. I missed you both and your videos. Yes, I kept up on FB, but it's nice to have you back on YT. Sending love, Amanda and Brinley.
So glad to be back, ive had such a hard time getyting this UA-cam stuff working propbaly again.
Russ if your were in the market again would you buy the LongReach 1900 or an Iliad 62 ?
Definently the Longreach, Although the Iliad has a better finish level the cruising range and layout of our boat far out weighs the finish.
So 4$ a mile roughly?
yes thats somthing like it
Thanks for the video of your boat and journey, bloody marvellous. Is there more to come or is that it.
Yes, soon
I agree with pretty much everything you wanted in a boat....so which one did you get????
Longreach 58
No more videos? I hope all is well?
Sorry ive been a bit pre octupied, new stuff coming soon
Wow, those opening shots of a night, just spectacular. That things like a space ship, hope you guys are ok, keen to see more of your stuff. That place looks spectacular, just magic.
coming soon
Interesting that theres no rubber mats under the genny. I always chuck a bit of the old conveyor belt rubber mattong under my gennys to reduce some of the vibration transfer etc. Maybe that ones good enough to not need it, but mate, shes a full on ship, not some yacht.
Sound level of just 40 decibels
I love the idea of sails, and just silently cruising along with the breeze, etc, but and im not sailor, (wish i was) but Ive thought this way too . Its a pity that you cant sail still, to pick up some free miles. But i love the idea of not being at the weathers mercy, ie you can power on through to get somewhere if needed. Brilliant idea with the solar, She does sound so good, i just need to win the lotto as i left it too late to ever affoard soemthing as beautiful as her. Is she a hybrid? Or how the hell do you get 4000nm outta her?
At 8 knts. she only uses 20 liters per hr
What a beautiful spot, i wonder if a simple wireless camera would help with lifting the chain if one could affoard the dock mate. Either way, im in love with the adventures you guys are having, enjoy.
That's a great idea!
My heart Longs for the open sea, Shes a beautiful vessel, I hope one day to learn to sail and some how convince my wife to give it a go. Every opertunity we get to go out on a yacht /cat/vessel She loves it. I hope one day to be able to experience some of what youve been able to see. Thanks for the video! Cheers S. Qld
Dont leave it to long, jump in.
Hi there . Its been a while , I hope all is well with you . Cheers
All good
Don’t know why it took me five months to find this video!! Way to go, she’s a beauty
Thanks Dee
brilliant and very inspirational - you've given a lot of thought to all aspects - i learnt!
Awesome, thank you!
Hi … very interested to know if you will be doing any more videos ?
Yes, soon
why the music in the background? I dont understand anything, cant watch!!
Sorry ive turned it down
Are you guys ok? Haven’t heard from you in a while.
All good , just lost a bit of inspiration . will be back soon
Sunrise 😂...the sun doesn't set or rise it comes into focus and out of focus at the same altitude across our local sky aka ATMOPLANE....
So true
Planet 😂...we don't live on a spinning planet but a stationary enclosed horizontal sea level everywhere plane with mountains and valleys....
?
Spectacular cruising ground. Thank you for an enjoyable and informative video.
Really was a beautiful spot
Only bla bla. No action, talking only NATO

I Love Jonna Napire 🧡💜❤ APRIL 17, 2024
Me too
Great video Keep them coming please
Will do
Great episode. I had no idea about the rubber, totally fascinating thanks so much.
Yes crazy right!!
Just to let u know the sun doesn't set or rise it comes into focus and out of focus at the same altitude across our local sky aka ATMOPLANE not atmosphere because we don't live on a spinning planet in fake space by NASA psuedo science atheists CGI cartoons but a stationary enclosed horizontal sea level everywhere plane with mountains and valleys...
Very informative, thankyou
Congratulations on realising your dream.
Thanks
Just came across your channel. Shout out from Oakland Ca. I watch other UA-cams with sailing catamarans and it's funny how most of the time they're motor sailing. Then if there's a strong wind all of a sudden you have to rush to reef the sails. I think solar hybrid cats are the future. Sail all day under the sun and rarely use your generators, thus not using any fuel, except to top off the batteries.
Exactly
Any chance of a modelled-up 3D, of a Med, Caribbean style cat with an open flybridge 40/48ft range?
They are builing that
Love your detailed videography. Especially the harbor/river entrance. These bits get left out of most and I appreciate it being included.
Thanks Rick
Overall a very functional and very comfortable long range cat. Would love to have one.
Right on!
I for one would be very concerned about shark bite styled couplings and "T"s and all the plastic piping. Doesn't seem very survivable in a casualty event. Plastic fuel lines, oil lines etc. will melt and it's "FLAME ON" full on Bravo casualty.
disagree, shes most likely running diesel, and its far better to carry a box of plastic fittings and some poly pipe to replace any cracks etc than carrying brass and copper piping etc. i dont think they are shark type usa fittings they look to be screw down pressure fittings which are far superior to the shark style.
correct
Now thats a boat 😊❤ might see you along the coast
Ihope so
❤❤❤ might see you at sea
That would be fun
I'm so happy for you both!!! Congratulations Russ!
Any thoughts on the Chinese made power cat starting with I...d ?
They are a buitifl boat but will not do what we want.
@@CruisingSunrise Ok, I thought some owners were having some teething issues with the company.
Nice. The shafts don’t even look that long for the prop angle.
It really is a testament of the builder James Dewing
You two made that look so effortless.👍
It was! what a great piece of equipment
