Angel's Egg is an anime film by director Mamoru Oshii, and is a piece wrapped in mystery. Here, I explore the way that the fear of abandonment plays a role in this enigmatic movie. Boutta watch your eternal sunshine video but commenting here to highly recommend the show "Pantheon", as its ending (along with how it tied to the overall premise) is what reminded me of Eternal Sunshine and caused me to search for an essay. Joel and Clem are supposed to be together. The universe would bring them together over and over, no many times they erase their minds. They're meant for each other and their souls are tied together. And that's why this movie makes me bawl my eyes out like no other. 😭

    Hey there Schloetz! Excellent video essay!! Being a long-time Dead Poets aficionado, I've found it very sad that somehow many people on the internet have attached a completely (in my opinion) off-base theory as to the meaning behind this magnificent film. I am upset that it may influence other creatives NOT to watch the film afraid that doing so would categorize them as the aforementioned. Do you understand what I am getting at - and has this influenced you to not even approach said theory in this video? Just curious...

    Back here after S2, and this video aged really well because the biases in the writing became even more apparent... and it has deeply affected the quality of the show to the point GRRM had to make a blog post critiquing it. The cracks in the first season have gotten worse, not better. The writers redeem awful things on one side and ramp up the actions of the other. Sarah Hess said "Civilians don't count" after Rhaenys (aligned with the blacks) killed countless civilians to make a point, a fact both fandom and writers gloss over.

    • @Schloetz
      @Schloetz 2 місяці тому

      Yeah, that line from her astounded me regarding civilians. It's immensely out of touch with what ASOIAF is about. I'd like to make a large video further breaking down my thoughts on House of the Dragon given the nosedive the back half of season 2 took

    You are missing a big point though. It's not inevitable. People change and grow, the difference between Clem and Joel at the end of this movie is that they have both grown a lot personally even though they do not remember why. There is no absolute in this movie, you can take it how you want. People can and will, change. Nothing is inevitable if you are willing to put in the work.

    I do feel bad whenever a sketch or a video/short i make doesn't get the views i would hope for, i feel bad when the sub count doesnt increase, but i still enjoy the things i do, they involve a certain amount of work of course like the editing, but after finishing anything i consider worthy of sharing i feel good, even if others dont even up liking or appreciating it like i do... But again, just do what you consider worthy of sharing, share your work w others, and keep on creating

    "I'm so fucked up" is better for a dub precisely because of how that word carries weight to an english speaker. "I am the lowest of the low" sounds very much like a direct japanese to English translation and in this case doesn't carry the same weight as what an english speaker would naturally expect to say to convey the feeling that follows an action like this. There are some instances in dub where I think you should prioritize the emotional context or gravity of a sentence over one to one accuracy. It's the feeling that matters here.

    I'm sat here a Dub fan listening to a reaction of the Netflix version and the instant Shinji said that it destroyed everything for me, because Spike Spencer did a freaking phenomenal job in EoE, that line read of him I remember listening to DVD commentaries where they had to fight ADV to both keep the scene in and keep the line read in because it's important to the story and the character of Shinji, for them to take that out in abhorrent then I hear "the spear of Lon-Jine-Us" and it's like glass in my freaking brain at how bad it is. It's a LATIN word and it's said perfectly fine in the OG Dub "Lon-gin-us" is appropriate in English. I'm terrified of listening to more as it's only going to get worse from here I feel.

      And then "May- Jai" for Magi computers. That's not just a few slip ups that's a consistent level of bad in less than a half hour. for context for any who come across this comment, Magi is pronounced "Mah- Jai." as it's another Latin word which is said like "Ma-Gee" the reason we add a "ai" to the end is because of the combination of the "Mah" sound at the start and the "Gee" of G being cut off by the "Eye" of "I" it combined turns "Gee" in Latin to "Geh-Eye" or "Jai" when said in a flowing tone "Mah-Jai" How they got "MAY" in there where there's no Y to add the Mah with "Ay' is beyond me other than frank incompetence
