Hoping you're recovering and you stay well. Your videos are therapy for others🙏
Thank you for such a lovely comment. I feel really well but still have a slightly elevated PSA.
Would you recommend a C15 or is there another bsa you'd prefer? I don't need to go fast , I've got other bikes for that 😉
Hello and thank you. I am no expert on BSA bikes. I always wanted a C15 and treated myself to this one when I retired. It does not go fast! It is lovely to drive and a lot of fun. Maybe a later one with side points would be more reliable. Mine is early a '59 but I wanted an early one. I do have a lot of work keeping it going but it is easy to work on. That probably does not help!
Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to more of your videos.
@@ralfhoffmann2487 Thank you Ralph. I am doing really well. Hope to have another film of a trip done a month ago next week.
Excellent 👌 I do fancy a scooter for the winter months

Good morning mr ferrier, happy to see you out & about & on a scooter no less. Is it a burgman?, i had one, loved it & it went like a bat out of well, you know. I always watch your videos, so entertaining & peaceful rides & to gush onwards, what a countryside. The little green bike is a treasure, the proper colour as well. Anyway, sorry for being longwinded, it's the first i've ever messaged you & i've always wanted to tell you just how much i enjoy yourvideos, thankyou, glad your recovering successfully, ric, ontario canada, love that black bike,i have a 650 suzuki s40 boulevard & a piaggio bv 500 "scooter" black metallic paint, it's my baby. Bye now, enjoy & oh, all the music is just fine.
Hello Ric and thank you for your kind words and your interesting info. It makes all the hard work of recording and editing so worthwhile. The scooter is a 1999 Yamaha Majesty YP250. It is incredibly comfortable and can carry a vast amount in all its compartments. Earlier in the year I was out West when the drive belt shreded. Never mind I carry a spare and a big toolkit. I changed it by the side of the road but cannot have tightened the variator correctly because in just 20 more miles another belt shredded and the variator was rendered scrap. Stranded! I pushed the bike into a wood and got my good lady to rescue me. The next day I went out in my car and took the bike apart completely to get it in sections into my car. The frame nearly killed me, the weight of it. I managed to clean the crankshaft splines and get a new variator from Aliexpress. However I found the frame and centre stand had rusted through in places so had to weld in repairs. Also the bolt that the engine bracket hinges on was solid and had to be cut out. It got quite a rebuild. The C15 though it breaks down a bit has never done one like that! The fuller story is on my blog hferrier.co.uk/personal/?page_id=6857. Amazing to hear from Ontario. I have one more film to create and that will probably be me for the year. Winter is coming on though I know our winters are nothing like yours.
Lovely really enjoyed that
@@ianbonnick7640 Thank you for saying that. Glad you enjoyed it.

@@johnbiddal5951 Kind words John and thank you for them. The films will ease off as winter comes on!
I was whistling along with 'Banish Misfortune' - great tune (open your ears, viewers). My wife and I have become hooked on Scotland in the spring; we were up in Findhorn last year with a friend from Lanarkshire but never saw those fantastic spots you reached on the scooter. It looks to be an ideal machine for small roads, drizzle protection and lunch supplies. Hope you recover well & are back to riding soon.
@@markgoddard4784 That is so kind of you Mark. That old scooter is the very job for getting around our Highland roads. It is very comfortable but it is far more difficult to work on than my wee BSA. I'm recovering beyond my expectations, thank you.

First time I have seen you out on a scooter. That must be a very sophisticated ride to the old C15. I would guess a Susuki Burgman by the square mirrors. Fancy trying one myself one day.
Hello Tim and thank you for that. If you check my channel I have done a few runs on this scooter and one I no longer have. It is a Yamaha Majesty YP250 from '99. It is not really sophisticated but compared to the C15 it is. It has incredible space to carry stuff and is extremely comfortable. But it's not cool! It is ideal for an old man. I don't take the C15 out over winter but sometimes if I see a slightly milder day during winter I venture out on the old scooter. I'm not so precious about it.
Brilliant Hugh. This is my first Gourmet Scooter trip out with you too. I'll check out some of the others 😋 Now all you really need is a gingham table cloth - or I suppose it should be plaid 😋
@@Lanes-Explorer5733Glad you enjoyed it. A lot of people are a bit snobby about the scooter films. I know it's got nothing like the kudos of the C15 but it's a really efficient and comfortable machine. I'm such a messy eater I'd be best not to use a table cloth!
@hughferrier5837 I'd get those noodles down my jacket front and tomato sauce... I 'm a magnet for the stuff 😂
@Lanes-Explorer5733 I don't want to be rude but are you getting older like me? Children are messy eaters, then you go through a long stage of life where you eat politely, then you get old and you just aim the food vaguely near your mouth! The number of times I put on a clean fleece and then eat! Oh dear. But the noodles are good.
What stunning views and colours it looked so remote in places, plus a good cooking experience the kettle looked really good and useful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks once again Frank. It is an amazing run, probably my favourite. I've done it often but never been to the top of Strath Dearn before. The kettle is fantastic. My eldest son (now 37!) gave it to me for looking after his dog!
What a braw day out :) Nothing like cooking in the outdoors :) Those scooters look more interesting day by day, my BMW K75s is feeling heavier now. Mhhhhh oh I must look out for one of those kettles :)

@@staryjanek Sorry but that run was a week or so before surgery. My head still looks pretty horrible. I had taken a bit of film to give me something to do while recovering. It's the hernia repair that hinders me. I am feeling good and just started driving the car again.

Great stuff Hugh it wasnt until about 9 mins in that I realised it was pre-op. I thought you had regained your dashing good looks very quickly😉. The little Bsa C15 Ive bought from Stromness is winging its way down past you as we speak. They offered to fetch it down in their motorhome as they are having a trip down here so that worked out well. That folding kettle is some tool! Hope you are continuing with your recovery Kind Regards Stuart from south of the border.
Good for you Stuart. Was that the C15 on Facebook? I did see it. All the best getting it going and when you do enjoy! Thanks again for commenting. I kind of look like a klingon now. I could get a part in Star Trek without the need for makeup!
Yes it is. I have a frame and logbook and that bike has no v5c but it has a points in the side casing engine which is what I wanted. I,m building a trail bike to do the Beamish Trophy Trial on so its ideal.
@@grandadsfishingboat7455 In many ways I'd prefer the side-points engine but my engine is in keeping with the age of my C15. All the best with the build and the competition.
Now that was a lovely film Hugh, I enjoyed seeing you out on the Scooter and the route you took was really beautiful the Loch's were so still catching every reflection showing some Autumn colours, not sure whether you have had your opp yet but I know with your obvious determination you will be back to normal in no time at all, I'm sure I speak for all your loyal Subscribers and wish you well, kindest Regards, Colin.
Colin, thank you for that and thank you for watching the film. Most people avoid my scooter films and watch the old C15 films. I put the same effort into both. I have recovered well from all my ops which were 3 weeks ago. I started driving the car today. My forehead where the skin cancer was removed is a bit of a mess but then I never was one of the beautiful ones! Thanks for watching and being so positive.
I was wondering this morning whether you had edited another of your films yet and now I have my answer. That looked like a great day out, with breathtaking scenery! Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed your film. That scooter looks like a sophisticated beast but seems to be inducing a spirit of lawlessness when confronted by road closure signs (I won't tell anybody). Once again, thanks for posting and I hope your recovery is going well.
Hello William and thanks once more for taking time to comment and actually watching a scooter film! Most of my subscribers don't! It humbles you to know it is the C15 that is the star and not me! It was a lovely day out and the scooter is so much easier to drive and so much more reliable than the C15! There is less pressure. My recovery is going great and I was driving for the first time in three weeks today. Thanks also for keeping quiet about my lack of respect for the law!

Nice video and a cracking little BSA, ran really sweet. We went on a coach holiday a few years ago and stayed in Strathpeffer, my first visit to Scotland (but not my wife’s). I really loved it, so peaceful and friendly. We went to Dingwall along the same road, follows the old railway line as I recall. I recognise some place names but didn’t have time to explore enough of the area. Would love to do it on my bike. Anyway thanks for jogging the old memory, very best wishes.👍🏻

How is it older bikes look more "The business" than modern bikes?
I am so with you on that. I just do not like the look of modern bikes. I hate the look of a mono-shock with a huge box section rear swing arm. I hate all the plastic covering up the engine. Even the riding position looks daft, like a jockey on a race-horse. Of course I'm biased but I think the C15 is the best looking of the lot. Thanks Harold.

Hugh, great video’s I am learning a lot watching you work. I hope you found a leak cause or unblocked the drain hole? Keep up the good work. Ian (Tasmania)
Hello Ian I would think Tasmania is about as far from Scotland as you can get!! That is very kind to say that but I am not an expert on these old bikes. I can keep my own going. That tiny drain hole was never blocked. I had quite a leak from the kickstart shaft, solved by fitting an O-ring and another from the mainshaft where I fitted a new bush. Using Loctite 518 to seal the timing side cases made a huge difference. I still am losing gearbox oil internally. I am going to do another strip and rebuild this winter to try and get further with that. Thanks for taking time to comment.
Another great video Hugh, thanks for sharing. And it was far from dull, great commentary as usual, great scenery and listening the purr of the C15 is nice. It seems to be running really well. Hello Hugh, another point I did not include yesterday, when I was in Inverness the day before Forres, I was speaking to a biker colleague from Dingwall and mentioned if he was aware of you and your channel, he wasn`t, however he would check your channel out, its ironic that his first motorcycle was a BSA C15 so he took an immediate interest.
