    This is a fun and easy game to teach new gamers. Also no hate on the "I don't like Catan". I liked it but understand why others don't and have had some frustrating games with new gamers when the dice just don't roll well.

    I was wondering why this game was hyped up because even after listening to the 4 minute rules, I still was confused. This gameplay was a great way to explain to me the hype. Now my issue is if people I play with can catch up 🥲

    YAY.... you're back! I thought you had disappeared, but if it takes five months to produce as good a video as this, then so be it! I've got this game on my shelf, but have yet to get the chance to get it on the table. However, I've watched a few videos about it, and know it's super fun, and you guys did a truly excellent job in both explaining how to play, and the the actual playthrough itself. I'm sorry, I'm useless at names, but the girl in the black cap... she isn't the only person in the world who doesn't like Catan, and I'm no fan of Ticket to Ride either. 😔 So anyway... first class video, totally enjoyed it and thanks so much for forty minutes of fun!

    Great video guys! I've looked at this game quite a few times, but never knew enough about it to decide if I'd like it. Now I do know, so it'll be yet another addition to my wishlist, and hopefully I can find a copy at a reasonable price. Really enjoyed this one, thanks for posting.

    I've just stumbled across your channel for the very first time, and it's an instant subscription! Excellent video; I love Take 5 - 6 Nimmt where I live - even if I'm totally useless at it, and you guys showed it at its very best. True, you made two errors in the last two rounds, but as I was sitting with a smile on my face for the duration of the video, I'll forgive you. 🤣 And just top top the whole thing off, what a super nice group of people too!

    Just bought this game to play with my English students in Japan. Ironic that it is called Hanabi, but my elementary students are going to be able to practice the use of "You have ___" and some colors and numbers. Thanks to your video, I was able to fill in the gaps in my knowledge of the rules after reading the Japanese instructions that came with the game. You are right that Hanabi means fireworks in Japanese. 花火 flower + fire = fireworks

    You can select any card from your hand, but he is mostly correct in the order of situations. He just explained the forced capture rule last. 1. If it's higher than the last card in a row, it must go there. The 6th card forces you to take the row, leaving your card. 2. If it's higher than 2 or more rows, it must be placed next to the one with the least difference. Again, a 6th card forces capture. 3. You can try to choose a card that's lower than all rows, allowing you to capture one of your choice, but you're gambling that nobody plays an even lower card, which would instead create a new row you'd have to play on. Choosing to play low can be advantageous in taking fewer points.

  • @murrrr8288
    @murrrr8288 Рік тому

    Isn't this 6 nimmt? You can play any card you want, you don't have to play something that goes to existing row if you don't want to.

    You forgot about the joker cards...how many are there and what's their purpose? Cant remember? And just pulled out my old game to play...instructions missing...one of my sister's must have thrown it out😁😆😉 like 50 years ago.

    • @acrosstheboardgamecafe3169
      @acrosstheboardgamecafe3169 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment Susan. The reason the jokers are not mentioned is that the joker card(s) and rules have changed over the years and there is no consistent joker rule. Our understanding is that in the original game, you scored the points indicated on the cards, so a pair of 7s are worth 7 points. In this original game there were two joker cards in the deck; a Positive One (Thumbs Up) and a Negative One (Thumbs Down). If you ended up with the Positive Joker, you got a bonus +10 points at the end of the game. If you ended up with the Negative Joker you lost 10 points (-10) from your point total. When the game was re-issued, the rules appear to have changed so that you score 1 point per pair no matter what numbers are on the pair, so a pair of 7s is just worth one point. In this new game there appears to only be one Joker, and this is worth two points if you have it at the end of the game. Again, we are not 100% about these joker details, so we did not include them in the video, but play with the joker(s) however you wish, so long as you have fun with the SLAM O MATIC!

      @@acrosstheboardgamecafe3169 I have all the cards then. Just missing the instructions, and thought we played it that the joker could be matched with any card at any time to complete a pair, like a wild card so to say, and at the end it counted as 20 pts. But who knows?? Knowing us girls, we probably made up our own rules😉🤣. One thing I did notice on the bottom of the slapomatic it says C 1964 Ideal Toy Corp. Patent pending and over a little further the number 2? Next game me and the hubby are going to play is Hoppit! circa 1974. Got it for my birthday in 1975, and has everything....after I dust it off inside and out😉😊. Check that one out. It's kind of like checkers a bit.

    • @acrosstheboardgamecafe3169
      @acrosstheboardgamecafe3169 2 роки тому

      Hi again Susan. Good news. We found a damaged original rule sheet from a 1964 version of the game, and while much was illegible, the sections on JOKERS and SCORING still were there. We have posted them here for you! FROM THE ORIGINAL 1964 RULE SHEET The Smiling Joker The Smiling Joker is used as a wild card. It can only be used once. For example the Good Joker and any numbered card are considered a pair and are place in that manner. The Sad Joker The Sad Joker is a penalty card and will cost the player valuable scoring points if caught with it at the end of the game. The only way a player can get rid of the sad joker is to have another player take it from their hand when forfeiting a card. Ending The Game The game is played until the last card is taken from the deck. The player taking the last card may complete their sets. Scoring At the end of the game the players total their scores by adding the face value of EACH of the cards the have set aside. The SMILING JOKER has a face value of 10 points. If a player is caught with cards in their hand at the end of the game they subtract the face value of those cards from their score. If a player is caught with the SAD JOKER they subtract 10 points from their score.
