It's not out of left field by any means, but they didn't have to make the most advanced civilization in the galaxy cartoonishly backwards either. It's very convenient to make Xavier an authority figure on a planet of straight up xenophobes. If they want to explore the consequences of Shi'ar imperialism I'm all for it, but the one line wasn't really needed to get the point across that their culture has conservative undertones. Not that they haven't always incorporated mature themes in X-Men, but it is Disney, and they're no Cornel West. I wouldn't be surprised if they were intentionally planting a line in each episode that doesn't take the plot anywhere and is designed to get right-leaning fans rage tweeting. And that would be more sad than radical. Or maybe I'm just jaded?

​@@DieselTymeGO I think the problem with the classroom scene is the telling and not showing. There's a million ways to show that the X-Men are treated differently because they are different. That simple concept is what makes them so relatable. Sooner or later, one of those scenarios is bound to get you. Instead Prof. X is literally lecturing to the audience which is the number one fan complaint on recent years. Even if you agree, it's kinda boring to watch. Also, your collar is messed up.

Based on and tied to are two different circumstances, just like comics and cartoons are 2 different mediums. Removing characters from the show removes value. I don't have to like it.

@@DieselTymeGO gambit was always supposed to die. They couldn’t progress the series without the death of gambit. Just like storm eventually gets their powers back and magneto and rogue end up together. It is the progression of the series and to get out of shape because they killed one of the lesser powerful characters that never made any sense in the series is fucking stupid.

​@stephenbrock3321 Let's rephrase this whole conversation in a way that you can understand since it was never about the comics. The Tranesformers movie killed all the characters so they could sell new toys. What new toys is X-Men trying to sell now that main characters are dying?

Thank you for your lengthy response. I could do a whole other video on Magneto but this episode but the spotlight on Gambit and he is one of my favorites. Yes, this season is doing a lot of comic source material, but they're not handcuffed to do it exactly the same. I'm looking at the choices this series makes as an extension of what we know already works. Can this show continue to function with Storm, Magneto, Prof. X, Gambit, and possibly Cyclops & Jean out of the mix? We'll see. Have a good weekend!
