I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Harvey when I was in college in March of 1987. A truly great man.
When the colonizers arrived to "make America," people were already here. It wasn't empty, raw land. It was land already occupied and "owned" by the existing indigenous people. Might be helpful to point out that the land that was used to make America rich was taken for free from these Indigenous people, and across one-third of the nation the land was worked with near-free labor provided by enslaved African Americans who literally built the South and much of the infrastructure of the Northern cities. Mr. Harvey says some great and inspiring things, and I loved listening to him. He had a style of cheery good-ol'-folks speaking that was both attractive and inspiring. But in his paean to America's history of "hard work," it would be nice to talk about the hard work of the enslaved as well as the oppressed in the factories, fields, and cities, work done by people who starved in their pursuit of survival while bankers and capitalists raked in their profits from uncompensated labor. No billionaire ever got rich through hard work. There is no work hard enough to earn a billion dollars. Billionaires exist because people don't realize how much of their precious labor and time are stolen from them by capitalists who shift the work to them and shift the profits to owners and bankers and investors. Name me one person who grew rich through *farming*. No, not owning vast stretches of farmland that are rented out to others or that is managed by hired hands while the farm owner lives in his air-conditioned house. Show me someone who grew rich through working the factory line. Who grew rich through teaching. Who grew rich through nursing. Or as a railroad engineer or porter. Or as a flight attendant or a baggage handler. These are all difficult jobs that put much stress on our bodies and minds. But no one gets rich doing them. They can't. The only way to grow rich is to be an owner and to pay people as little as possible for their work while taking the profits of their labor for yourself. This is a comfortable homily to America, and I do love me some Paul Harvey. But it's an a-historical romantic view of America and hard work.
Above all else Paul Harvey loved American Democracy. What would Paul say about America today?
Hard work-doesn't pay.
My high school art teacher, Mr. Dennis Crawley, would play Paul Harvey during art class. Thank you Mr. Crawley for introducing us to Mr. Harvey. R.I.P. to both of those gentlemen.
He has it backwards - He calls the Natural World a "wasteland"! The Natural World IS Eden! To toil unnaturally, thereby destroying that Eden to build an artificially-designed matrix called "civilization", that is void of True Sustainability, is udder madness... Sadly, most people - like Paul Harvey, do/did not See this... so they follow that destructive road like a moth to a flame... And that my friends will be... The Rest of the Story... Unless??? 🌎✌🌱🎶
Doesn't it say in the Bible and other holy books you have to work or you don't eat?
Reminds of recent netflix flick w kevin bacon who knows what is the 3 part plan to have the world take itself out. Wow
This is especially true for democracies. You constantly have to be vigilant to protect your and others' rights, as someone more vigilant and cunning will take them away for their own benefit. For more information, look at his speech about dictators.
What a great orator.
The only problem is some are greedy.....at the top. Amen.
This is so much better than any Joe Rogan podcast filled with bullshit. We need another broadcast program like this one now more than ever.
Promise, I won't lay down another hoe😊
W O R K is a 4 letter word for too many in this country. Folk feel they owed, or “I’m gonna git mine.” Terrible attitude
If we had a Paul Harvey today, would anyone listen or believe him? Sometimes God gives us a great man but only for a limited time .some will listen some will learn from him But will enough people learn and make the needed changes to make America what she once was ?
Once upon a time, perhaps. But no more!
I miss this logical thinking man!
As a young man, I felt a reverent hunger for the pictures he painted. I met him one day in 1983 at a factory I was working at sewing mattresses together when this very tall fellow came into my work area along with the plant manager. I was introduced, shook his hand and then that unmistakable voice said "nice to meet you"!
Must have been beautyrest, right? I seem to recall they were on of PH’s sponsors.
When did people quit thinking for themselves? I suggest it's when government got involved in our education system.
This man was so smart 🤓 and knew what he was talking about
Get off our dead centers and get to work. True then and true now. If people worked hard they would have less time and energy to whine and moan on social media, be confused about what is a man and what is a woman, etc.
Paul Harvey lunch break during the GOAT- Rush Hudson Limbaugh. Miss them both.
"Then to Adam He said, “...in toil you shall eat of it ALL the days of your life." ~ Genesis 3:17
Hello, do you have the one on ERNIE NEVERS? CAN I BUY THAT ONE?
"Get off our dead centers and work". He sure could turn a phrase. I miss his show.
Paul Harvey was a profit
Love and miss Mr. Harvey.
Where is Mr. Harvey when the country needs him most? His words continue to give me hope...
I worked in radio as a young man and met Paul Harvey twice! He was my hero and our station carried hisbroadcast. I never missed his 830am and noon newscasts HiS voice and moral outlook are an inspiration to me! May God grant him peace!
Boy it sure boy nice to hear him on the radio again times sure were alot better back then
Paul Harvey was a religious zealot assclown who would slant any story for his own purposes. He was an entertainer and constantly compromised himself for ratings! Pitiful!
Thank you for posting this Sir. He, Mr Harvey and his spots seem like a rally call to America and the world if a person listens close enough.
I wish that those in Congress & the House of Representatives could listen to just one of Paul Harvey's stories, then perhaps THE will have learned something from the rest of the STORY . THIS country needs a man like Paul Harvey to help open there eyes.
Until about 1920 almost 100% of the work done in this country was by horse power or by hand. To ask a person today to work that hard would have them curled up in the fetal position.
The man who built the building rarely gets the credit. Except to himself.
There may never be another.
I was blessed to meet this man when I worked at abc in Chicago, what a great man, I miss him always
I grew up listening to Paul Harvey in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. This man was truly loved by all who listened to him, especially "The rest of the story" stories that he told. I truly wish more people had listened to his wisdom and wish my children had known of him. This country was so much better with him behind the microphone!
Earn "It" Earn "Me" 😎😇😉
If I were d-evil 👉💵💰 bagged US... Placebo currencies that steal your TIME and dictate your conditions til you're dead, can 💋 MY TIMEBANK !
Dear Jehovah I love the work
Look what's happened to this country since they shut it down and put everyone on unemployment because of a phoney pandemic.
Work bitches. Jus do it.
Love you daddy
I got this man’s wisdom free everyday on am radio as a kid and young man. Thank you sir. I share that wisdom proudly. 🤠🇺🇸
I was so young and naive I could never keep up with these broadcasts but my father played them often, and even all these years I still find a soothing peace in this man's voice. Even as it plays in the background all I hear is the peanuts "wom wop wom" but it's so peacefull
I miss his voice
Love you daddy
I disagree. The destruction of the plains grass for wheat cultivation caused the dust clouds seen in the 1930s.
