I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Harvey when I was in college in March of 1987. A truly great man.

When the colonizers arrived to "make America," people were already here. It wasn't empty, raw land. It was land already occupied and "owned" by the existing indigenous people. Might be helpful to point out that the land that was used to make America rich was taken for free from these Indigenous people, and across one-third of the nation the land was worked with near-free labor provided by enslaved African Americans who literally built the South and much of the infrastructure of the Northern cities. Mr. Harvey says some great and inspiring things, and I loved listening to him. He had a style of cheery good-ol'-folks speaking that was both attractive and inspiring. But in his paean to America's history of "hard work," it would be nice to talk about the hard work of the enslaved as well as the oppressed in the factories, fields, and cities, work done by people who starved in their pursuit of survival while bankers and capitalists raked in their profits from uncompensated labor. No billionaire ever got rich through hard work. There is no work hard enough to earn a billion dollars. Billionaires exist because people don't realize how much of their precious labor and time are stolen from them by capitalists who shift the work to them and shift the profits to owners and bankers and investors. Name me one person who grew rich through *farming*. No, not owning vast stretches of farmland that are rented out to others or that is managed by hired hands while the farm owner lives in his air-conditioned house. Show me someone who grew rich through working the factory line. Who grew rich through teaching. Who grew rich through nursing. Or as a railroad engineer or porter. Or as a flight attendant or a baggage handler. These are all difficult jobs that put much stress on our bodies and minds. But no one gets rich doing them. They can't. The only way to grow rich is to be an owner and to pay people as little as possible for their work while taking the profits of their labor for yourself. This is a comfortable homily to America, and I do love me some Paul Harvey. But it's an a-historical romantic view of America and hard work.

He has it backwards - He calls the Natural World a "wasteland"! The Natural World IS Eden! To toil unnaturally, thereby destroying that Eden to build an artificially-designed matrix called "civilization", that is void of True Sustainability, is udder madness... Sadly, most people - like Paul Harvey, do/did not See this... so they follow that destructive road like a moth to a flame... And that my friends will be... The Rest of the Story... Unless??? 🌎✌🌱🎶

This is especially true for democracies. You constantly have to be vigilant to protect your and others' rights, as someone more vigilant and cunning will take them away for their own benefit. For more information, look at his speech about dictators.

As a young man, I felt a reverent hunger for the pictures he painted. I met him one day in 1983 at a factory I was working at sewing mattresses together when this very tall fellow came into my work area along with the plant manager. I was introduced, shook his hand and then that unmistakable voice said "nice to meet you"!

Get off our dead centers and get to work. True then and true now. If people worked hard they would have less time and energy to whine and moan on social media, be confused about what is a man and what is a woman, etc.

I wish that those in Congress & the House of Representatives could listen to just one of Paul Harvey's stories, then perhaps THE will have learned something from the rest of the STORY . THIS country needs a man like Paul Harvey to help open there eyes.

Until about 1920 almost 100% of the work done in this country was by horse power or by hand. To ask a person today to work that hard would have them curled up in the fetal position.

I truly wish more people had listened to his wisdom and wish my children had known of him. This country was so much better with him behind the microphone!

I disagree. The destruction of the plains grass for wheat cultivation caused the dust clouds seen in the 1930s.
