A quick look at our trikes that we take to the burn each year. We started with Schwinn Meridian trikes and then started building on them until we ended up with the perfect desert steeds.

Great job do you have any build videos I'm new here this is the best one I saw thanks for sharing your work I am a fan
What are you using to attach the billboard vinyl!
We are using HH66. It is a glue that actually melts the vinyl ever so slightly to create a forever bond.
Do you have a video about how you did this door?
Unfortunately, we did not take video as we were putting it together. We used a regular 6 panel interior door and attached a frame around it so it has these wings on each side for the walls to slide in. It also has a base attached to it so the whole thing can be screwed down to the playa. I can certainly take a close up video of the door if you would like.
@@creativewoodimages9523 I'd love to see that! I love your set up
I'll bet you don't like being called Eddy Baby.
not a flood...nothing to see here folks, move along...
Title should have been "Truckee River almost Floods"
Bravo 😯
some one turn of the light
That flooding is so weak.
Did anyone else see how fast the cars were going??!!😲

Nice capture bro
Guess you forgot to show the flooding!
oh wow, what a fun place to play. that ocean can be a powerful surprise.
The good old days, when the west had water....
That piece of construction equipment was like: "I'll save you, bridge!"

I blinked and missed the flood.
What was that tractor doing to the water?
Wow i like
How utterly ordinary.
Non-Noahs Flood
I got to see a river that didn't change in height from start of video to end of video...
Nice. Looked more like a full river than a flood. Who knows....
Yea, it can get higher. Any higher than this and it floods the entire downtown area and causes a real mess. Doesn't happen very often though.
@@edwhatduck6002 maybe they should dig it out
Do a time lapse of white house flooding
All of DC would be nice. Maybe about 50' in depth.
Where’s it flooding? The small back island is still above water ...the walkway is fine, the buildings are fine....⁉️
This is right downtown Reno at the Truckee River.
@@edwhatduck6002 What a succinct answer. 🙄
Yup, everything was mostly OK with this flood. Any higher and it would have been a real mess. It really did some damage downstream this time. We all got good at moving sandbags!
I wonder how long was the time span....
We ran it most of the day, night and just the morning of the next day. So I would say roughly 20 hours total run time.
@@edwhatduck6002 thanks!
That's a nasty looking lowhead dam. They need to blow it up. Dangerous for people and wildlife. Plus it is *right* next to a road. That's scary.
That bridge is due to be replaced in 6 years. It was really fun watching the backhoe pick logs and large objects out of the river. You are right, that bridge becomes a dam once a few big logs clog it up. They actually replaced the Virginia St. bridge two streets down because of the dam ability.
How did it flood i think it might of flooded when the snow was melting nice timelapse 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Lots of rain and snow that year
Hi Again, Just built a plywood box with similar dimensions to yours in the video last night. Since the the box hangs out somewhat past the rear frame, did you add anything for additional support, or did you just bolt it down as it? Thank you
I just bolted it down to the existing four screw holes with nice large washers. Once the awning is attached to the box and the front of the trike, it should take on a more solid feel and not wobble around as much as it wants to when no awning is there. I did connect the front of the box to the frame with some metal strapping down by the bottom. That helps with the stability.
Hi Ed, thanks for posting this. This helps with coming up with some ideas for this year. I bought a meridian as well and the basket it came with is kind of flimsy, so I’m building a box similar to yours. In your experience since I don’t plan on using solar panels do you think using PVC for the frame is a terrible idea?
PVC should be OK. Keep in mind that the whole rig is going to rock and roll like mad out there on that playa. The main key is stability. Just grab the awning and shake the trike. The whole unit should feel solid.
Hi Ed, I've been searching a lot and you have the best Trike canopy I've seen so far. I plan to do something similar for 2019. Do you happen to have details of the build posted anywhere?
Hi Jeff. We don't have any details about the trike canopy posted at the moment but we will create a new video and get it posted. The trikes and canopies have been through 4 burns now and have performed like champs. They are a little top heavy because each canopy has two 75W solar panels mounted to the top which powers the batteries which in turn drive the front hub motor and lights. Give us a couple of days and we'll do a more in depth review of the trikes and how we made the canopies. Thanks.
@@edwhatduck6002 Hi, Wow thanks for replying. This will be my fifth time going and looking for all ways to stay cool this year. Surprisingly there isn't much out there for building canopies for trikes. From what I see yours is the cleanest by far. I'll keep an eye out video. Thanks Again!
@@jeffp3114 Hey Jeff. Just posted a quick video of the trikes. Feel free to let us know if you would like any more details. ua-cam.com/video/G8mZVlURyZ0/v-deo.html

Excellent angle cutting hack. Thanks for sharing.
Where did you get your canvas? Nice info ! Thank You
Thanks for the ride !
It was truly our pleasure!!!
I really must know what process you used to complete this yurt. Do you have any farther designs? because I am attempting to build a plywood/insulation board yurt for 1-3 year living in a high wind high snow area. even a short mockup and some insight would really help.. Hexayurt information is.. slim to none.
Do you have a video on what kind of zippers you used and how to put them on the panels?
We used 110" sleeping bag zippers from www.thezipperlady.com. We first sewed the zippers onto 6" strips of vinyl backed canvas. We did this because we didn't think sewing the zippers directly onto the billboard vinyl would work as well as attaching the zippers onto a more substantial material. We then used HH66 glue to glue the strips of vinyl backed canvas to the billboard vinyl. This gives an amazingly strong edge which makes for nice tight seams.
cool, have you tested the zippers in the rain? were they waterproof?
Good question. We have not had the opportunity to be rained on yet. I am guessing they are not going to be waterproof. I've always wondered what will happen during a real storm. My best guess is that they will leak a little but not expecting too much. They are pretty good zippers. But still, just zippers and water has its way of getting anywhere it wants.
Got rained on this year at the burn. These zippers aren't waterproof. But very little water issues in the yurt. Just need to create a path for the water to drain. Give us something to brainstorm on over the winter months. But I can say that it stood up to hurricane strength winds and handled it like a champ. More to come!
Did the beveling affect the measurements for the roof? If you're cutting off an inch or so on every side of the walls, would it make the roof too big?
It actually makes the measurements easier. The exterior side of the panels keep their original size. Its just the inside of the panels that will be a little shorter. It really only works if both sides of each seam are trimmed so they fit flush. Then you are left with a really tight fitting lid.
In this video you can see how all the seams are tight against each other making a well sealed yurt. ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=ZRkdHT53sGY
Wonderful. Do you bevel the rood edges as well?
Yes. The only edges we did not bevel are the edges that are touching the ground. This way ever seam has two beveled edges that fit perfectly together.
love it great job
+2 point for being a good sweetie and helping your sweetie but could use a little more explanation! :-)
Yea, we just posted the videos without enough explanation on why we were doing it! In this video, we were attaching the two pieces of foam together in order to create a single piece that is 6 feet tall and makes the whole yurt taller than just using a single 4 foot piece for the walls.
So why covering with vinyl? Does it affect it's reflective factor for cooling? (Though probably makes it less annoying for neighbors..)
Hi Silona. We covered our yurt in vinyl for several reasons. The primary reason was because we wanted to use zippers to put the yurt together and we needed a strong surface to glue them to. The first year we did what everyone else does and used metal tape to put the yurt together on the playa. It turns out, that is a royal pain! Too much dust, wasted tape and metal tape has a tenancy to cut your hands. So we glued zippers to the vinyl and now the entire yurt is in four pieces and can be set up in about 10 minutes with no tape. We also found the vinyl gives the entire structure some serious strength. We are hoping to get at least 10 years out of this yurt. This year will be #3. The white vinyl is also a magnificent canvas for us to paint with art once we get the time!
What glue did you use? This the same vinyl glue you used on the walls?
Mate2Frio We used regular contact cement to glue the vinyl backed canvas to the outer R-max foil. We did this before we knew we were going to wrap the entire yurt in billboard vinyl. We may have done things differently if we knew we were going to do that from day one. We brought the yurt to Burning Man for one visit before we decided to wrap it all.
How'd you attach the zipper? what material\glue was used?
Mate2Frio The yellow strips of material are vinyl backed canvas and the white strips are billboard vinyl. Both strips are about 8" wide. We used the yellow canvas because we already had zippers sewn on to them. The preferred material is billboard vinyl since it glues to itself very well. If you use vinyl backed canvas you need to only glue the vinyl side to other vinyl. The canvas side does NOT attache well. We sewed the zippers on the strip material with UV resistant thread using a wide zig-zag stitch. We then used HH66 vinyl cement to attach the strips to the yurt. The wide strips gave us about 6" of contact space which provides a very good seal.
Ed Whatduck How much HH-66 was used? Why did you cover the Rmax completely with the vinyl especially the inside?
Mate2Frio For the entire yurt, we used about 2.5 gallons. All seams are about 6-8". We covered each piece with billboard vinyl individually and then used seams and zippers to attach them all. We covered all pieces with billboard vinyl completely for several reasons. First, there was no way to get a good seal with the surface of the RMAX without it ripping. Second, metal tape is evil! Third, it creates the potential for massive art. A huge blank white material that can be painted on. Oh the possibilities on how to decorate! And finally....it let us have a yurt that hopefully will last 10 years and can be setup in less than 10 minutes.
Good job. Any videos of the finished hexayurt?
Mate2Frio Hi, thanks! Yes we do have additional video we are going to post. We are going to post pictures/video of us covering the yurt in billboard vinyl as well. More coming soon!
That'll be great. I've subscribed. Is that 3in insulation?
Mate2Frio It's actually 2in R-Max. Sorry for the delay in new videos. We're having to redub the sound. They'll be up soon. Thanks for watching!
Ed Whatduck Any updates? Pics?
Mate2Frio Hi there. We are slowly posting more videos. Sorry for the terribly long wait!
