Crimping and Assembling a Packard Weather Pack Connector
Переглядів 85 тис.10 років тому
Electrical Terminal Service (www.electerm.com) has you covered when it comes to Weather Pack, Metri Pack, and Deutsch terminals, housings, seals, crimpers, and removal tools. This video first illustrates how to properly crimp a Weather Pack terminal to a wire and seal. You will also learn how to identify the difference between a Weather Pack and Metri Pack terminal. Finally, the features and be...
Hey Jerry! It's so nice to see you again. I worked with you at the Parks & Recreation Department in Pawnee. So good to see you're doing well.
Is there an issue with dissimilar metals? Thks
If only those tools worked with 6 or 8 gauge braided wire.
That tool with the strip of ferrules in it is really cool.
No need on solid wire ?
I have a amp/tyco #59500 crimping tool, what die is used to crimp 14-8 non insulated copper ferrules???
Hello these ferrules kind of terminal lug can i use this in my thhn to the plugin type breaker?
Well explained, ty for the video
called company- -poor customer support
Nice demonstration of ferrules and crimping. Do you have any crash course type video to enable layman to do basic things at home...
If you just put on the ferrule and screw it on the terminal screw won't it get pinched as well?
These are late coming into my life but they sure make things convenient.
Great Video as Always
Most holes to insert wires are round. Is it okay to use a square crimped ferrule in them? Searched the net for a round crimp. Seems it doesn't exist.
Yes it's ok, I put ferrules into round Wago terminal blocks all the time. The run at full rated amperage with no problem.
A wire was sticking out of your white wire crimp. Shows why electricians twist the stranded wires so they don't stick out.

That belt feeder is pretty neat. Hadn't seen that before.
Thank you. I bought a crimping tool combo and it came with a box of the regular connectors I've seen all my life. And it included a box of these ferrules, which I had never seen in my 68 years. So, I did what I usually do when needing to know how to use something; I searched UA-cam. And thanks to you, I now know what they are used for, and also know that I will NEVER just stick in loose wires in a set-screw terminal again.
Thanks for the pointers. After reviewing several hours of DIY videos (such as yours), I was able to install my tesla gen 2 HWPC. It was a total pain in the..... but still saved me about 1k doing it myself. I'm going back to all the videos that I was able to get some key information and leaving a "thanks" comment.
Thank you
I picked up an rs ferrules tool for £10 secondhand, they go for £70 new here in the UK ,I think it will be useful
How much is that gun type crimping tool? Price isn't on the site
Thanks! Can't beat an instructions video with no waste. This method not project applicable.
would be nice if they made the insulation heatshrinkable.
Nicely explained. Learned something new today! Thank you for posting this video and for the effort taken to make it.

why not just tin the wire with solder? does the same thing, no?
Not quite, with solder you also get solder creep.
INCC74656I This was meant specifically to replace the heat, the mess and the bother of soldering. Neat, safe, and no waiting for the iron to warm up.
Try that when you need to land 500 wires in a panel. Ferrules are the way to go.

Will not be too sure of solder in an overcurrent fault situation. Still get the creep/spreading with the screw terminals.
Great explanation many thanks :)
how are they manufactured. I need machine for manufacturing ferrules.

Thank you, I recently discovered ferrules, this taught me a lot

nice video visited your site
This is a myth, measure the voltage drop difference between a ferrull and directly putting wire in at the source, electricity travels over the surface of a conductor, if you ferrull it guess what, the surface area is decreased
Bull, I just fixed a connection that would not work no matter how good I got the wire clamped in there, definitely metal to metal but it still wouldn't work. I had to use a ferrel then I was good. It boggled my mind but now it's good.
You are thinking about the "Skin Effect"? Well at 60 Hz in copper, the skin depth is about 8.5 mm, so for wires less than 8.5 mm it really do not matter?
Nah yall both are F'd up. Im master cert.
@@peterbuiltcummins413 Ok, then please make a video where you show things are as you claim, just measure the voltage difference at a connection, with and without ferrule should do he trick, it will prove something much better than "Im master cert.", because that prove nothing at all.
Ferrules are used everywhere now. The voltage drop, if any, is insignificant.
I found nice tools works on ferrules. ua-cam.com/video/5Xaq0CprgDM/v-deo.html
Learned something newcthx, I have never seen the belt load. Thats a handy addition I will have to add to my tool box. Great vid, tossed a like in forcyacas well..
These are super popular in Russia, used by residential electricians in line voltage applications. A really neat way to attach stranded wire to breaker terminals, busbar terminals, etc.
Hello just want 5o know what kind of wire do you have, do you use thhn stranded wire?
@@pit3835 in Russia they have stuff very similar to THHN, maybe more strands, like lamp cord in the US, but the real problem is that most terminals there are not designed for stranded wire
@@Gruntled2001 Thank you for the information. Here in Philippines ournstandard wire is THHN i thought i can use that terminal lug.
@@pit3835 You still can, not a problem. I do it in my work here in the US.
These ferrules are very nice.I've used them for car audio applications like compression terminals on amplifiers and distribution blocks. If you don't like the different colors of insulators you can simply use heat shrink to cover them.
What are the pull requirements for a ferrule crimp?
Good explanation and demonstration of ferrules and how to use them properly, thank you!
I was looking for a way to improve the safety of my home built 3D Printers.. and this video was very helpful ... and now I know why I haven't seen Ferrules here in the US.. Thanks! EDIT: Now I need to import one of those Wezag crimping guns :)
I have used ferrules extensively here in the US since 1989. However, I first saw them in Europe and had to search hard to find them here. They cut down our loose wire problems down to almost nothing. They are easily available now.

On that first ferrule you crimped with the nice tool, it has a strand hanging out. :-(
Nahh, not a big deal lets cut off the excess wire shall we... :D
Hello from 2018. Also came to the comments section to point out the sloppy crimp with the fancy tool.
Well he didn’t join the strands together he just stripped it left all the strand fanned out
Yep, he gone cause somebody to die 😶
@@johnnyviva9017 That is exactly what ferrules are meant to prevent, strands making contact with other terminals, that should have been noticed or edited out.
Thank you for the informative video. I thought these ferrules would come in handy, for small electronics - like R/C quadcopters, where often the wires soldered directly to the board. I can crimp the ferrule, then solder that to the board - instead of having a sloppy wire. Not really a "certified" way to do it, but quadcopter is a hobby - space is limited.
You make it look easy. I've got a lot more confidence now in knowing how to handle ferrule crimpers and I'm just downloading your catalog. Thanks for showing us.
Great video. The CC sucks.
Where can I find the specification for the amount of exposed wire from ferrule? Ive read it is one diameter?
In my company we make it flush

Eyes freaked me out at first :)
Very informative video! I was researching plumbing ferrules and came across this and learned something new today. Thank you!
same here
Thanks for the tips you have contributed here.
you mention the wires fanning out when pressure is applied to a terminal screw. Does twisting the wires prior to insertion not correct this problem?
Twisting helps, but under pressure, even twisting will not prevent the wires to start to fan. Ferrules solve this problem. Ferrules are universal all across the world, just not in the US.
It is better not to touch copper with your skin.
Will That tool work for metri-pack terminals as well?
+Electrical Terminal Service Thanks...Is the holder easy to remove?
+retiredsearge Yes, it removes easily with an Allen wrench.
Thanks
