Is grout or mortar hard like concrete? Because we're in PA and was told not to use concrete I guess because of the cold weather and contraction and expansion which may lead to cracking. Is grout or mortar resistant against this cracking? Is vermiculite also resistant to this?

Ball valves are junk. Only use quality Jandy or Pentair diverters. Check valve before the pump shouldn't be necessary. Sacrificial anode doesn't do anything. No heater bypass. Check valve isn't needed with a SWCG (only a tab feeder). SWCG should be hump down so the plates are completely submerged. Flow gauge optional (doesn't do very much). This is a poor example of a pad setup.

done both. Vermiculite can be made smooth if finished properly. if water gets behind your liner with the grout bottom it will float much more easily. Also any loose pieces of grout are sharp. when the liner is replaced you will appreciate that vermiculite can be bonded to with patch material or even another thin coat of vermiculite. Vermiculite should be put in by master craftsman and don’t assume you can do the installation if you’ve done concrete or other type of flat work.

Jacqu, We built same kit also. Swam at the end of last year with no issues. We opened this year and noticed we have the same issue. I have also called an emailed Pool Warehouse as well as Hydra Pools. I followed their directions including placing 3/8 x16" rebar in every hole along the front where it has now pushed in. NOT A GOOD WAY TO START THE SEASON.....I truly wonder how many more have this issue. It was interesting last year when I talked to their customer service rep and needed a replacement piece for the tanning ledge during install and they were surprised I had this style and not the open pour top.

Your vermiculite looks like that due to a poor mix and a terrible trowel job. It's not like painting, takes a bit of skill and a good eye. Vermiculite is hard when mixed right and is porous to let water through. Mortar is not the right product to use and you NEVER EVER put any wire in a pool base. Your pool dig should have been shaped better and you should be using string lines when you vermiculite to have nice straight sharp lines and also make sure your inner dimensions are damn near spot on for liner fitment. I have a few videos on my channel that show how vermiculite is done.

Great job! Plumbing isn’t meant to be a work of art. As long as all the parts are where they need to be and you use the right amount of primer and glue, then the job is complete. My guests won’t care about an itty bitty purple stain on a pipe. What matters is that the pool is clean and safe to use.

@@enriquel765 No Name is right. Pool plumbing is an art. Not a visual art but more of a water flow art. This video shows that he's proud of a HUGE footprint and and lack of knowledge in water flow. A perfectly plumbed system would have absolutely no short 90's. Long 90's and/or double 45's for all turns. The goal is an extremely low head pressure at the filter. Most installers make the glue look nice and shrink the footprint as small as possible like yourself. The difference for the homeowner is not having to get up and bypass the filter when they want super strong jets from the spa or crazy water features, waterfalls, etc etc. Flow is key. It's worth the extra $20 in fittings...

Using purple ensures that the particular pipe is thoroughly primed. Unless your an acrobat and can flip over to check the underside of the pipe, its the best route for a proper fit. Yes it may look nasty and not so pleasant, does it work? It will if you use purple primer for clarification that it's primed correctly.

You are going to have to learn a hard lesson that everyone who's built a pool or replaced a liner has to learn. Vermiculite is far and away superior. You mixed it incorrectly and have no clue how to trowel.

  • @enasoii

Lol, This is why amateurs shouldn't make how-to videos. When your mortar cracks, which it eventually will, it will be a sharp edge that will rip the liner. Further, vermiculite is more forgiving on your feet when walking in the pool but also on the liner. Mortar is like sandpaper no matter how smooth you get it, and when the liner expands and contracts, it will cause premature liner failure. Finally, vermiculite is porous allowing the passage of water. If you ever get groundwater with vermiculite, it will push out through the ground with mortar. It will float your liner and will cause headaches. Getting the wrinkles out frequently or worse having to reset the liner. Everyone should stick with vermiculite or sand bottom pools. Mortar is not a cheat code. We don't use it for many reasons

I didn't notice any rebar driven into the ground through the panels for your tanning ledge? those holes at the bottom of each panel is for these 2'-3' rebars. Under a tanning ledge, we would fill it with gravel at the very least, if not concrete prior to securing the tops - People will be walking on the tanning ledge plus 10 lbs of weight per gallon of water, so keeping it empty with no rebar should really be avoided. The access panels are to reach a hand and drill underneath for the ends, the other attachments should be accessible as you work from the top. On most ledges, we fill with gravel and cement to the top of each step and ledge and avoid the entire access panel all together, save on the metal tops and spend the money on stone and cement to avoid these issues.
