Patricia Kasper, Your FASD Coach
Приєднався 8 лис 2013
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) affects one in every 20 US citizens. Among youth in foster care, it affects 8 in every 10. FASD is a form of neurodivergence; those affected process information and interact with the world differently due to their brain-based differences.
FASD is routinely mis- or undiagnosed due to myths, misinformation and stigma.
Factoring together the prevalence rates, and the US population estimates for 2022, there are 3.65 Million youth and 16.6+ Million adults who are impacted by prenatal exposure to alcohol, most of whom are un-diagnosed.
With professional and lived experience, I offer professional development training, as well as coaching to parents of affected youth and to adults who are new to the idea that this may be the explanation for their life's struggles.
(I do NOT diagnose FASD or any other neurobehavioral condition.)
My book, Sip by Sip: Candid Conversations of those Diagnosed with FASD as Adults, is available on Amazon.

Encore of Candid Conversation with Maggie May, ALC Changemaker
Season Three is coming soon, but in the mean time, here is an encore of my candid conversation with Maggie May, self-advocate, member of the ALC Changemakers, and international speaker. Maggie's episode first aired in November 2023, and is included in the Living Experiences series.
Thank you for you patience as Season Three has been delayed. Moving has been much more work than I remembered from the last time I did it - 25 years ago! BUT, my new desk arrives within a week or so, my office should be set up not to much longer after that, and then I can begin to record more episodes. I have a fantastic line up of guests for some exciting Candid Conversations!
Also, please note that with the change of state, I had to dissolve my LLC in California and start a new one in my new home state. My new company name is Kasper's FASD Life Coaching and Training, LLC. You can still reach me at the same socials and website.

@PatriciaKasperYourFASDCoach "Even though your content is excellent, your views are quite low. Are you using SEO for your videos?"
Is there anybody I can talk to I married to a woman with fasd unaware of what that meant I need advice
I’m so glad I came across this podcast. I am living with fasd as well. I would love to have a conversation with you about my life growing up as a child and now. You are absolutely right about the lack of information that’s out there. I was born in 1975 and adopted to a wonderful family that traveled the world. But they had no idea the child that they adopted would struggle with FASD. I have managed to graduate high school and go on to become a licensed massage therapist.
Hi Janey! Please email your contact info to me at livingwithfasdpodcast@gmail.com I'm looking forward to connecting with you!
We don’t reach people through information; we engage them through emotional resonance. When we bury them in data they get overwhelmed, shut down and avoid. I appreciate Dr Rich and her passion, her student, and would urge shorter emotionally social stories as the way to have bite sized progress with policy makers! We fight smarter, not harder, and touching the heart with the pain and the steps that help provide modelling so others can step up too, in their own ways.
@@Antoniathinks Wise words, Antonia! Storytelling is so powerful!
Dear Mem! Very helpful video But, I have watched your UA-cam videos and researched them and I have found some problems due to which your videos are not going viral and your videos are not reaching people they are not finding your videos. So the viewer, subscribes like, comment is not coming in your video. Thank you ❤❤
Patricia, this was an excellent interview with Dr. Brown. I am writing my doctoral dissertation pertaining to FASD, and he is the chairman of my committee. I could not do this without Dr. Brown's support and guidance. He is truly a subject expert and is a wonderful human being. Thank you Patricia and Dr. Brown.
Im so glad you liked this episode! Please reach out to me at livingwithfasdpodcast @gmail dot com so that I may be your cheerleader as your work progresses!
🖤🤎
I'll have to find a way to connect with Robbie. I can talk about my diagnosis, as well as what my son is currently going through in regards to living with fasd. I had a book idea regarding the masks that we wear as neurodivergent people.
Can you refer me to someone who can help my boyfriend who is 59 with AFASD. We live in Western Maryland thankyou
Sorry for the delayed response. Please reach out to me. I will be happy to talk with you about what kind of help you feel would benefit him. calendly.com/kaspertrainingandcoaching/30min
And Patti, your point and Joel’s point, about giving ourselves some measure of kindness, or grace, is important, and we keep learning ALL of our lives. How lovely that their son loves and wants to enjoy his family’s company. ❤
It is entirely common to discover that the further one goes into one’s specialty the less people there who are experts know about other types of brain syndromes. It’s surprising but common. It is unfortunate, however, in that there can be wonderful techniques which emerge and can be adapted given what circuitry/systems are involved. This is a compelling interview.
@@Antoniathinks thank you!!

Yes,organicity is ROUTINELY missed. Which is why I was so grateful and so very very fortunate to find Dr. Taylor’s work early in my career and why all the methodologies from TBI were the starting point for the toolkit we developed in Parenting Your Porcupine. Shame, worry, fear, the stress lense, absolutely!!! It is one of the hardest things about living with a medical condition.
So true!
I love this interview, and value both your expertise so much because we can’t get to solutions without the fear losing its grip. Stigma versus solutions. Solutions come from 'straight through it' practice, Patti, you are 100% right.
Thank you, Antonia!!
Excellent video
Thank you so very much!

I'm so frustrated that I have fetal alcohol syndrome
The downside of a global reach is that I cannot give a hug to those who need one. I'm glad you found the podcast, Tanya.
Blessing sent to you from Albuquerque NM
Thank you so very much Tanya!! May you be richly blessed as well! Enjoy your weekend!
What a sterling conversation….! I would give anything to share with a beloved person but because of the diagnostic term, I cannot make it available to them. I am just so glad others will hear you both and broaden their minds and actions to improve mutual respect around neurodivergence.
Biting my tongue on your behalf. And yes, fawning is painful. And then there we go neurological drives intensity of trauma reflexes. The coping/cower/covering appeasing, is tenuous. Responsibility to fix things I break, to keep track going forward as best one can, and where does the reciprocity underlying social rhythm land? I love what plan A and plan B can offer, Patti. I like that “no more name calling” as in yes, no character assassination. Aggressiveness was unwarranted. Where there is education there is the opportunity for change!!! What a GREAT conversation between two wonderful minds/hearts. Can’t wait to learn more about persistent demand avoidance. That is REAL. But this is everything: it is not personal. The $10,000 incentive is the novelty button that kicks the chain of dopamine into action. It is about the amount of the brain which gets recruited thus causes the fatigue crash after the task!

I want to watch the film so bad do you know when it is coming out for the public?
I have no idea, but I am eager for it too!
Where I can watch her Movie?
Hi Annie! It will be quite a while before the movie is out; they have just finished the script version of the book, which will be released on Sept 9. I am so curious who will be cast to be in it - I'll be asking Joel if we can show the trailer on the podcast as soon as there is one!
Ok do you know when the 8 keys adults with FASD is going to be released for the public? I can’t wait to see it My Brother is in it I am so excited to see it I have FAS

Kathy do you know the date of the 8 keys for Adults with FASD movie for the public I can’t wait to see it
I can’t wait to see the new Movie
Not just thrown under the bus, but the alcohol industry will do more than the tobacco industry did to suppress awareness and contaminate possible identification and intervention. They actively have since the earliest research, so be ready, they are going to hit hard to keep their industry addicting future generations.
I am thrilled to see all of you, and even more excited that our collective efforts are advancing! I am so encouraged seeing you all! 😂❤❤❤
