Silly projects by a silly person trying to blend aesthetics and design with engineering and electronics. Don't try any of this at home.

Since I uploaded the build videos of my DIY gaming laptop, it's been awesome to see the project getting picked up and shared across the internet. I thought it might be fun to do a little roast of a few different laptop builds that have been posted to Reddit. This is all in good fun! Not every project needs to be a living symptom of OCD that takes over a year to finish (like mine). I have huge appreciation for anyone who dives into any DIY project, and I love when people share any type of build with other nerds like us. These are all pretty cool projects, so props to the creators!

Patreon is here, should you wish to help support more weird and overly-ambitious projects: www.patreon.com/SocketScience/ The Joel Osteen Inspiration Cube is a bit... hard to comprehend as an actual product. With Halloween around the corner, I thought it would be fun to mod it and imagine what it would be like if this box were haunted. For business inquiries and hate mail: rocketsurgerysci sock...

DIY Gaming Laptop (with a Whole DESKTOP PC Stuffed Inside!!)
Переглядів 675 тис.4 місяці тому
After 14 months of trying to figure out how the *&$#!^ to make this thing actually work (and look okay-ish in the process), we're finally here. If you haven't guessed, it's a custom DIY laptop built completely from scratch, with a Ryzen CPU and a Radeon GPU and everything else a regular desktop might have. If you haven't seen the first video, it's here: ua-cam.com/video/FR27wjpwCLM/v-deo.html P...
Part 1: Building the Ultimate DIY Gaming Laptop w/ Desktop Parts
Переглядів 154 тис.5 місяців тому
I built a laptop using 3d printed parts, but reinforced and finished properly to look similar to an actual production laptop you might find in a store. All the parts are desktop hardware, with a full-power CPU (AMD Ryzen 5 5600X) as well as a full power desktop GPU (XFX RX6600). This build video is part 1 of 2. For business inquiries, sponsorship offers, collab pitches, or to tell me how pretty...
Poly Bridge in Real Life (Multiple Bridges)
Переглядів 20 тис.Рік тому
With Poly Bridge 3 coming out, I thought it would be fun to bring a few Poly Bridge levels to life in the real world. This is a way to honor the design style we've all grown to love from the middle-child game, and it's also just a silly project to give me something to do so I stay out of trouble. With painting, 3d printing, foam work, and more, these bridges finally exist in the real world. Sho...
Bahahahaha mad @ you? I saw this and had to like and sub! More please this is hilarious!!! 😂
Awesome video man 👍👍
"If I've earned your subscription-" , man I wanna come work with you !
I just dont get why no case manufacturer has addressed this yet. If they made even a bigger suitcase like case that comes with or can hold a monitor, it would definitely be an instant buy. I hate having to buy a new expensive gaming laptop every couple years, it would be much cheaper and probably gave you more fps if you could just use mid range desktop parts.
Listen, it's all great, good job but you REALLY need to get that heatpipe/heatsink connection fixed. JB Weld is NOT the solution. As far as I can tell you are capable of soldering things, why don't you just look up, coppper soldering, buy like a tiny bit of copper soldering solder and go to town.
Always liked these ever since I first saw a video of someone making their own years ago, but they never made any actual sense to have outside of windows for stores or niche things like computer case side panels or maybe for placing over the top of an existing mirror to get a "smart" mirror effect. The average computer user is either going to have this up against a plain wall, which kinda defeats the point of it being transparent, or will find it absolutely useless because of too much background distraction visible through it AND the lack of backlight to make the screen actually visibly useable. Some of the newer OLED versions being developed would be a better option seeing as those have self-illuminating LEDs, but again only viable really in VERY niche and limited markets and use cases.
it was crazy watching this Legend go 🙌🏽🔥 wdym you built your own hinges 🔥🏆
If you are an idiot, i don't know what i am.
Cool video! I had the same idea! the first time I did it using an aftermarket Apple 2GS case and I attached an LCD screen to the back and had it flip down like a laptop. Yes, it was a lot larger than a laptop, It was more like a portable computer than a laptop, but I was able to put full-size boards And GPUs in it. If I went with an ITX, I would just take a regular laptop separate the bottom from the top and 3-D print a spacer to go between the two to give you as much room as you need to fit the ITX motherboard in there then with some connectors from Amazon, you can connect that Touchpad and keyboard to your motherboard, and the top of your rig will be exactly the same as the original laptop and so will the bottom it’ll just be a lot fatter both are good but this way is a lot thinner. I prefer the bigger full-size motherboard in the Apple two GS laptop that I made lol
I see we're this is going but....why..monitors like that you have bodged is 1080p
Honestly, this feels alike the results of a "If I cannot find it, I shall do it myself", and its quite impressive! Congrats, definately earned a subscriber.
I really appreciate the effort, don't get me wrong, but it looks terrible.
cyberdeck montage
Now we will have lapdesks (I hope they actually make this cuz mobile versions of components are just soo bad for such a price)
ohh god don't put 2 S's together on a logo
I wonder whats the total biulding cost
Do not take it so hard because you always try your best. Be grateful for your best achievements no matter how hard you try.
Hi, to facilitate the sanding, use a rectangular piece of wood, tighten your sand paper band along the wood length and use 4 pins (2 on each side of the wood height) to keep it in place, it is mush better for flat surfaces (keeps them real flat). Nice contraption ;-)
Did NOT expect a VGG clip in a video like this 😂😂😂
what happens when you combine those two is that you get another fuel source where the inventor dies of 2 headshots
i wanna try smth like this without modifying the parts and so each part can be swapped whenver
You did fantastic!! WELL DONE!💪💪💪👌👌👌
this dude is making things that high budget companies dont, mad respact bro
Bezel the word youre looking for is bezel.
You could have placed the touchpad in the center rather than offset to the left. Considering there wasn't a numpad.
Laptop is being help on hopes and dreams
0:25 Rocket League :D
what if you did the same thing with the GPU and the motherboard, but just put it into a super slim desktop PC case. I bet that thing would look like a ps2 slim
I need another video going more into depth, so I can do this myself
You made it un usable lol well done 👍 I was just thinking how great the gameboy no backlight screen used to be and how much fun that was. And how if there was also a way to put background light and whatever’s behind the monitor directly into the viewable area. Surely my video/audio/graphics work is gonna be way easier now 🙏
Send Bonnie a copy of Home Alone
why do i now want to build an desktop-spec laptop myself? well time to save some money…
prototype also looking awesome performance like PC , if final project finish put it into sale I've buy it but include the battery build in or removable
VGG MENTIONED🔥🔥🔥
Remind me when people used to Mod Xbox 360's into Laptops back in the day. This is an Awesome idea, I don't know why anyone else didn't do it sooner. Someone could build a laptop that looks & runs better than the one's on the market 🔥
Use a single point lamp with it po proyect pictures on to walls

I have been searching for this for few days now. Just wanted to know how tough it is to get a fat laptop with best gpu like 4080 or 16gb vram card on a laptop. Thanks!!
ive3 been tryna do0 thisz o0n a.2018,chrome-book!
every body gangsta till it comes to design pcb💀
Alone for the try you will get my Like. :-)
This deserves way more than 500k views. Great job
I'm pretty sure a laptop with replaceable pc gpu already exists and made by msi, But good job anyway
You did a damn fine job for a craft of such maximum jankiness. I would consider refining the product and cadding out the whole thing. There is a market for something like this, and while you janked the absolute shit out of this bad boy, there’s no reason it can’t be cleaned up and kickstartered as a product. You could sell it as a pc case or barebones kit. I’m sure there’s a number of lower profile itx boards that you could sell customized I/o shields for, and loads of people that would be willing to help design some custom pcbs in order to help decrease jankiness to an except-able level.
This channel is just the nerdy version of redneck engineering and I love it.
Put gorilla glass on either side to preserve transparency and protect ti from breaking?

Hi, I am trying to replicate something similar to your build, may I ask how did you connect keyboard and trackpad to the motherboard directly?
damn! dats brave and cool. It blows my mind that you've completed the whole project. Hope you'll do some benchmarks
