an actual deep dive into Siren's Lament
002
so like miso's season 2 for eaternal nocturnal is literally coming out this week so this essay ended up having very good timing surprisingly. obviously go support her and stuff she works really hard and draws a lot of abs.
and if you like abs and character relationships and symbolism you'll like her work.

www.webtoons.com/en/romance/eaternal-nocturnal/list?title_no=2832
also there's a part in the video where the audio just like...cuts out during one of the sl amvs - that's because it got copyrighted sorry :/ if it helps it's that miley cyrus song about going round in circles and you can find the original link anyway.
i really enjoyed this jenny nicholson style breakdown of a piece of media i like where i bounced between whatever i felt like covering i got to do stuff like talk about outfits, the artwork itself and the fan community it was really fun.
idk if i'll do something exactly like this again though, my next video's already pretty different. i also have like...bloopers on my patreon. they're 3 minutes worth of bloopers i don't know if that interests anyone but if you want it you can sign up for that i guess. my next video's script is basically done, i'm going to start recording it at some point so this channel will be active for a while so that's cool.

001 i get so like...heated in this video so if you're like wow this person must hate this movie, i really don't, i just...it's like when you go to a restaurant and eat a mid meal and you can't stop thinking about how mid it is and all of the flaws of that meal while normally wouldn't be that big of a deal suddenly become a really big deal. that's what this movie was like for me. inside out 2 is...

    This title feels like clickbait because it implies you’re going into the technical stuff but then in the end you say you aren’t so I just listened to this video to hear about your personal experience which no offense intended but it was unhelpful and a bit melancholy… you should of started with saying your not going into technical stuff and mentioned this is your own personal experience. The title would be better if it said “how I started a webcomic” instead of “how to start a webcomic”

    Never heard of Sirens Lament (I’m pretty far from the target audience) but was still interested and fun to listen to. But all in all, not enough abs.

    Funnily enough, the movie crew consulted nine teenage girls and used them as a focus group in order to get the emotions right

    I really wish that they had Riley get her period in this movie lol. I got mine at 13 and I thankfully was a person who had known about it for a while before I actually got it. I don’t know why some people decide to not tell kids about periods and allow them to think that they’re dying when it happens. My school taught me when I was like in fourth grade.

    I think it would be much cooler if the emotions evolved. Anger becomes envy, disgust becomes embarrassment, Sadness becomes Ennui and fear becomes anxiety. That would even explain why the parents had only 5 emotions in the first movie.

    I see your points but, as someone with chronic anxiety I felt very seen? like anxiety DOES make my sense of self feel like "I'm not good enough" every single day. My brain keeps putting negative memories "at the back of my mind" to avoid triggers and keep me functioning. But eventually they still come back to the main part of my brain. And in a way, the film helped me realize that I'm not just "Not good enough" that even if I try to hide it with repeat sayings like "I'm a good person" thats not who I am either. It helped me realized I am everything I experience and feel, that chronic anxiety and depression sucks and makes my life miserable, but there are small times of joy and pride that help me keep going. The film made me cry, because for once in my life I felt represented, seen and somewhat understood. It helped me, a 21 year old, autistic person understand myself better. And I couldn't be more thankful to the film for that. For me Inside out two is, just what i needed when I was at my lowest. And I love it for it, as many flaws as it may have.

    I honestly very much enjoyed the movie. And your comment for what you said about it being like Wreck-It Ralph I would very much beg to differ because this genuinely at least to me didn’t feel like a cash grab in the slightest. I agree with a few of your points, but as for it being like Wreck-It Ralph, I’d have to disagree, because that was during the time when a bunch of Disney movies were doing you grow-up and move on string of movies back to back. The slow progression of something as little as someone that you look up to changing your entire worldview, and making you change who you are as a result of that honestly really spoke to me. To lose oneself in the midst of anxiety and expectation, along with being envious of others to an unhealthy degree I’d like to believe is one of the reasons why the movie resonates with so many people. I was happy to listen to your opinion on the movie, and I liked a few of the points that you brought up and even if you don’t want to rewatch the movie, maybe later on in life you’ll rewatch it just as you know, why not. 😊

    According to IMDB there were 3 writers, two of them women. I think Disney producers limit what can and can't be said about periods and the writers just had to do what they say..

    • @crispie_
      @crispie_ 2 місяці тому

      yeah that's the feeling i got as well. I have no ill will towards the writers they were likely pressured over making it as safe and consumable as possible.

    Listened to the audio before, but rewatching this for engagement! I didn't see the movie, so I don't know if anything you said was accurate, but I agree with your point that a movie about the emotions of a young teenage girl should include proper mental health help (like having friends you can rely on) and other stuff important to young teenage girls like periods. Also there seems to be a general trend where movies are just playing it safer and safer, not selling to the audience but to advertisers. No risks whatsoever.

    Thank you for sharing your experience, Crispie. It's comforting to know that yet another journey like yours was built purely on trying too much and not focused on _just_ modern-day internet-time engagement points. I've seen cases like this, and knowing yours makes it even better! Having been on the internet for all these years, I think it's time I start trying, too! ...And speaking of statistics, the way I found you, was through your post on r/india! Came via that post, and stayed for TIATA ("The Immortal and The Assassin"). _Thank you!_

    I love this video, while I feel so called out I also feel so seen? I expected the normal 101 run down of “make a script”, “do your storyboards”, “have a schedule” but ended up hearing someone actually talk about their own experience making a comic. I also have always had trouble socializing, I chase the dream of my creations being well liked and praised, I want my art to be seen. But hearing you talk about how after getting popular, likes and comments became meaningless touched me in someway. It made me wonder what will happen to me once or well if I get popular. Would I also lose interest? What is my life without creating? This made me think a lot and truly at the end of the day we all want to be patted in the back and told that we did a good job today. But like everything being praised too much makes compliments lose their value, everything should be balanced. Im gonna go rethink why I create, is it cause I love to? Or am I too caught up in the fantasy of wanting my stuff to be popular. And when it does, are my own creations gonna lose their value? Sorry for ranting, I love this video so much thank you for posting this!

    While I've heard people say "You'll always have time for this or that", I'd say it's such an advantage to have that "running out of time" mindset as early on as possible. I can't think of a reason why you shouldn't at least try something out as soon as possible. Before you know it, you'll be in your 30s thinking, "Man, I could have easily done this in my 20s...". Time will go by, faster and faster.

    • @Nocmora
      @Nocmora 7 місяців тому

      developing a mindset of running out of time is a great preparation to spend a ton of money in therapy later on - it's just anxiety turned productive. Do things because you're excited to do them, because they make you so happy that you don't want to wait to do them, not because you're running out of time.

    • @Nocmora
      @Nocmora 7 місяців тому

      (I agree that doing stuff now is better than constantly putting it off and that time runs much faster as we age, but i firmly believe that the way you go about doing things is extremely important and purposefully giving yourself anxiety is a short-term solution with major consequences on the rest of your life)
