I have been a film and popular culture buff for as long as I can remember... from what I have been told, I was a John Wayne fan as a toddler (in the 1980s, mind you!). Female Gaze Productions is meant as a place to examine (primarily!) the film and popular culture from the middle of the twentieth century in an examination of not only the historical significance of the works, but also how these films and series play into where we are right now as a culture. Right now, I’m particularly interested in women working behind the camera in classic TV.

A dive into the TV lineup on Monday nights in 1965. I want to look at the different shows that were airing, in hopes of seeing just why we remember some and not others. Thanks to everyone for sticking around! Bear with me as I brush the dust off not only the channel, but some format shifts, and getting my editing back up to snuff as well! More coming soon! #ClassicTV
Underappreciated Animation and Voiceover Actors: A Top Five
Переглядів 1924 роки тому
A dive into some of the top, but I would argue underappreciated talent work in television and feature length animation throughout the middle of the twentieth century. These are voices which are indeed familiar, but have occasionally taken a back seat to their characters in the years which have passed. #ClassicAnimation Twitter: kpierce624 Facebook: kpierce624/

An Examination: Boys’ Night Out (1962)
Переглядів 1,5 тис.4 роки тому
This week, I take a look at the 1962 sex comedy ‘Boys Night Out’ starring James Garner, Kim Novak and Tony Randall. A movie like this seems inherently linked with the popular culture of the post World War II era and proves to be a fascinating, cultural examination.
Remembering Fort Courage: An In-Depth Look at F-Troop
Переглядів 49 тис.4 роки тому
F-Troop ran for two seasons on ABC, making it very much a blip on the popular culture radar. However, thanks to some lengthy syndication runs and a well-crafted DVD release, the show has remained a popular example of classic TV. How does the series, in which elements haven’t necessarily aged well, fit into the pop culture landscape. #ClassicTV #LarryStorch #F-Troop
Examining Harlow: Red-Headed Woman (1932)
Переглядів 1,8 тис.4 роки тому
A deep dive into Red-Headed Woman from a historical and feminist perspective as a work of pre-code cinema. The movie is a fascinating entry into not only Jean Harlow’s career, but that of co-star Chester Morris as well. There are so many questions to dive into relating to star persona, featuring very against type turns for both performers. How does this movie stand up when viewed through a cont...

Top 5: Underappreciated Female Characters in Classic TV
Переглядів 2304 роки тому
This week we look at some of our favorite underappreciated ladies of classic TV. These characters are just as likable, memorable and relatable as legends like Jeanie, Lucy or Maryanne, but the names and faces might not have survived the decades to the same extent. #ClassicTV #PerryMason #Gunsmoke
Examining Harlow: Bombshell
Переглядів 1864 роки тому
In the inaugural episode of Examining Harlow, we look at the actress’ 1933 comedy Bombshell, co-starring Lee Tracy, Una Merkel, Frank Morgan and Franchot Tone. How does Jean Harlow’s work contribute to not only interpretations of sex and gender in the pre-code Hollywood era, but filmmaking as a whole during the period. #ClassicFilm #JeanHarlow

TCM Classic Film Festival 2020: My Picks!

Well, this year is kind of a weird one and those of us who are regular attendees of the TCMFF were distraught to hear that the festival wouldn’t be going forward with the current state of the world. Are You a Bad Girl: Where the Boys Are (1960)
The promotion for "Ozzie and Harriet" in Reader's Digest that fall claimed "The Nelsons might just go on forever!" 1965-66 was the 14th and last season the Nelsons were on the air... Clever artwork for the opening to the Chrysler Theatre (which I never got to see since my mom watched "Peyton Place" and "The Long Hot Summer")
Nice thxs for remembering us about the sitcoms back then
What I did not know wow 🤯 ❤
What's sad is when Brett passed away, People Magazine had a very skimpy tribute accented with an unfocussed terrible tiny picture...while Kardashians received covers after covers.
lots of great info...thank you👍👍👍👍👍
I remember watching F-Troop. Unfortunately it was well after it had gone off the air. Just wondering, do you do any deep dives into any shows from the 70's? I could suggest one of the shows Emergency!
Your voice doesn't sound as loud and strong as your clips. Very good content Thanks!
How about Gail Fisher of Mannix?
All great shows!
Patty Duke and Donna Douglas were so pretty!
I can’t help but smile when thinking about The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres. Two of the most consistently funny shows I remember watching.
Thanks for the memories. Enjoying this segment to relive my childhood memories ❤🙏👍
I was a Honey West fan. Talk about the female 007 ahead of its time. Also loved seeing I Love Lucy and The Andy Griffith show with Don Knotts. ❤🙏
Loved Lost in space, the Patty Duke show. We met Robert Culp while riding an elevator in an apartment building on our way to a bridal shower.. he was the nicest guy.. also Ozzie and Harriet with Ricky Nelson was another show. I used to look forward in seeing just to hear Ricky Nelson sing at the end of the show. . ❤🙏
Interesting that many prime time shows were still in black and white.
at 9:58 on this particular monday night in 1965-- Screen Gems unveiled it's now infamous "S FROM HELL" ending logo at the end of both Hazel (CBS) and Farmer;'s daughter (ABC) > Since Hazel was such a flop on CBS-, they did not air any Screen Gems shows until 1969 when they started airing the Monkees reruns on Saturday mornings.
Also Bewitched brought back that famous Screen Gems logo “the infamous S from hell ending logo. Such superstition attached to it. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Bewitched with Dick York as Darrin. ❤🙏
In addition to its prime-time airing, CBS was also running a daytime version of To Tell the Truth at this time that aired at 3 p.m. Eastern, opposite popular long-running soap operas General Hospital and Another World.
One thing that I never understood about Patty Duke:How could two tall parents raise a short girl?
Recessive genes?
The show was self-effacing satire. Something today's crybaby generation will never understand.
They were prisoners of their own skulls
Thank you!
fascinating!
Great stuff. Thanks.
Good job honey
the lady speaking on helium ffs
You didn't mention that the last season of Ozzie and Harriet that year (which was the 14th) was broadcast in color!
Ozzy and Harriet was the longest running sitcom of its time. The Dick Van Dyke Show is my all time favorite sitcom.
Jerry Van Dyke turned down Gilligan's Island and The Andy Griffith Show for My Mother the Car.
The Man For One Season
@karma432 He started in another show called Accidental Family that also only ran for one year.He costarred with Andy Griffith in Headmaster which was cancelled after 13 weeks. He was considered for the role of Tom Hagen in The Godfather, but Robert Duvall got the part.
Producer Aaron Spelling didn't want to change Amos Burke from a police captain {"BURKE'S LAW""} to a "top secret spy". But ABC wanted a "spy show" for the 1965-'66 season.....and Four Star Television {whom Spelling produced the series for} backed them up. Despite Aaron's warning that the idea was a bad one, "AMOS BURKE- SECRET AGENT" lasted 17 episodes before it was cancelled in January 1966.
I find it strange that so many of the leading comments on this are negative.
Thank you for makıng a vıdeo on one of my favourıte people!
Can't believe ppl actually liked Jack Klugmans unattractive wife. Such a ham who was not funny. Loved Charles and Betty though
"State Fair" opens in theaters on Thursday, November 8, 1962 with Pat Boone, Ann Margret, Tom Ewell, Alice Faye and others which didn't do well at the box office for Disney. This was Jose Ferrer's final film as director before his death in 1992. This was Alice Faye's final film with Disney before her death in 1998.
That woman's voice is so irritating
I can barely understand a word she is saying! Is it AI or just a shitty voice over?
Moms was around in the 1910s? Are there still images of her from then?
I can recommend the book "In on the joke" which has a chapter on Jean Carroll.
I agree with all the others who've said Brett & Charles, without them match game wouldn't have been as funny or successful! They were the best of friends and ironically enough died within a year of each other...They'll be missed!
Lost in Space was and is great!
hello from Hollywood Joe
Great post! Liked & subscribed x
Lighten up Karen
F-troop was great. Better than ANYTHING today!
@femalegazeproductions6278 It's worth normalizing the audio for this video and republishing on YT. The dB drop between the (well chosen!) clips and your commentary is a bit drastic--a disservice to your review of a troubled & troubling film that reveals an era & context that some commenters here may feel inclined to disbelieve & dismiss.
I’m surprised the studio greenlit such a project in the early ‘90’s. Lucas, as usual, was in his own world.
But that's not necessarily a bad thing, as long as he didn't make his world about him (cough Joss Whedon cough).
Both Henry Morgans were born in 1915 and neither was named Henry Morgan at the time.
Mamas family is fittingly also owned by Warner Bros. Like F Troop is.
From what I heard F Troop got canceled because the new owners of Warner Bros. seven arts thought it was wasteful for a sitcom to be filmed on the Warner Ranch
Me personally, I love this movie! I bought it on you tube . And saw this in the movie theater. It was also my first date with my wife.
Ken Berry past away the same day of George Bush Larry Storch also was on Married with Children as himself
Heard he was always cranky. Had little to do with only son.
