Just a note: Rothenburg odT WAS bombed during the war, but the main damage was to the eastern parts of the city and it was obviously not that badly damaged. It is a wonderful city, though maybe overloaded with tourists. Pity that you seem to have missed Dinkelsbühl on your way to Nördlingen. I hiked from Würzburg to Austria, large parts along the Romantic road and loved this slow way of experiencing the countryside. It is not for everyone, certainly not if you are pressed for time but as I am retired that was not a problem. Btw, "ö" and "o" are pronounced differently. "ö" is more like the vowel i "church" and "ü" is the German "y", like in "mystery". This will help you with names like Nördlingen and Füssen.

We did pretty much exactly the same places with them back in 1991. Nothing seems to have changed much.

That's one of my favourite stretches of the SWCP. We are camping this summer at Constantine Bay.

Another great trip - thanks for sharing, really enjoyong your progress. So, did you know that that smell was seals or did you realise only when you saw them? What do seals smell like? My assumption is fishy and salty. Would be great to add smell to sight and sound.

I would highly recommend you drive east from Kamloops to Lake Louise Alberta. From Lake Louise take the Icefields Parkway north to Jasper then continue north. The Icefields Parkway is one of the most picturesque drives in the world.

Fantatsic trip! I am planning my own channel island adventure this summer so great to see some of the pilotage for real. I was half thinking of heading to Cherbourg first rather than a narrower tidal window at Bray, but you seem to have timed things beautifully!

Great video. I sailed there from Portsmouth Harbour in 2021, stopping at Falmouth on the way out, then Newlyn, Helford, Fowey, Dartmouth, Studland on the way back. I think you were brave to do it in September. The advice I was given, was no later than early July. Planning going back next year.

Hi - I really enjoyed your video. It's all very familiar as Sarah and I are also late to discovering sailing, and we did Competent Crew on the Solent, a sailing holidays flotilla (when you din't need Day Skipper) and then Day Skipper earlier this year. Again, with Sailing Holidays and out of Gouvia, so your other video contains some very familiar places! We're off to Greece again in May, and hoping to do some short charters in UK waters in the Summer. (I also go to Le Mans for the 24 every year 😀 )

Really enjoyed this. Just this weekend walked from Lynmouth to Barnstaple (day and a half walk onwards from Woolacombe). The climbing per day is not to be underestimated - you never get up to amazing heights but you spend the entire day going up and down, it really adds up!

'Greatest location for a YH'. A debate in its own right. I suspect that the Glen Affric YH would have something to say about that. 3 hours walk from the nearest car park. Surrounded by Munros. No Wifi, no phone reception. Idyllic. Gairloch sands YH might lay claim to the best view. Having said that, the Tintagel one does look a great location.

Thanks Darrell - glad you enjoyed it despite the rain. We did Crackington Haven to Tintagel in one great (but tough) day. The stretch to Port Isaac is also great.

Good question Mark, we do use OS but on both our phones via a subscription. I use OS on my PC to plan each sector to get accurate views on the amount of climbing and length on a given day (you can set your own speed settings!) and these routes are then automatically on the OS phone app. It's saved us a couple of times including our walk from Crackington. Generally the route is very well signposted, but some sections less so and knowing via GPS that we're off track has saved us. We've never had a problem with battery and this isn't the mountains (where I'd definitely have a paper back up) and it's worked really well. You can see all traditional OS maps as well as other views. Have a great time planning your walk...we've been loving it.

I'm enjoying these posts. Have you had to use an OS map at any point? It looks like the path is very clear, well signed, and the obvious aid of the sea. As a hill walker my instinct is to always carry one, but when I do the SWCP in September, I'm tempted to not take one.

while your trip was Awsome, you could make it much interesting watching, if you included some of your interesting stopping places, and what you found to do in towns, etc, some interesting characters you encountered, , places you ate, and different menus, etc..

That looked a bit up and down but some spectacular bays. Nice crockery in the tearoom!

Well done both. It is an under rated section of the whole route, but not one to be underestimated. Some gruelling sections with some big climbs. But you have some amazing days ahead as well. Good luck with the remainder of the route, and everything else. All the very best and thanks for sharing.

I used to live at the Buckinghorse lodge literally across the road in a camper year round.

Really good video. It gives a very good insight of this leg of the SWCP. I haven't walked this leg yet, but other. And the video prepares me for this walk when I will be walking it some time later. Thank you and subscribed.

Great video, really enjoyed it. As a West Somerset lad, a lot of the beginning route is my regular stomping ground. However, my girlfriend and I are planning to do this whole route to Woolacombe in the Summer, so it's really helpful to see how you did it and get some tips. Good luck with the rest of the path.

I have to say had to trip that I hope to make some day and not too distant future but I don't love to pitch a line in and a few spots to see if I couldn't catch a fresh trout for dinner or breakfast it's all good next time see if you can get out there and do a little fishing in the in Alaska for some rock or sea bass or fresh salmon it won't disappoint 🤠

Really enjoyed your video account. I started in Minehead Mid April 22 and finished 30th May. I used the Paddy Dillon 45 day option. A fantastic walk and I would agree, if you keep it to 10-12 miles maximum it is more fun. Good luck with the rest of the trail.

I thought it would have been an amazing contrast to enter Anchorage, with its highways, airports, tall buildings, etc. after all that time pounding down the empty highways and past remote hamlets. It must seem astonishing to find oneself in a real city.

Thanks for your video it was a nice trip down memory lane for me! In 1999 when we drove round trip from Los Angeles, Ca to the Alaskan Highway then Homer, I didn't have a digital camera or Samsung Galaxy cell phone like today, back then all of our still pictures were taken with good ol' Kodak film!
