January 13th was a pretty significant 24 hours in the life of Donovan Gingrich. The standout athlete at Conrad Weiser reached 1,000 career points and committed to Bloomsburg for football. "It was crazy," Gingrich told SV Sports' Paul Roberts. The 6'1, 200-pound senior guard scored 18 points in a 54-52 win over Twin Valley on Monday. Gingrich is averaging a team-high 17 ppg. this winter with 28 triples. During the fall, he threw for 1,545 yards with 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Gingrich completed 67% of his passes and also led the Scouts with 557 rushing yards. He added ten more touchdowns on the ground while averaging seven yards per carry. Conrad Weiser finished (10-1) after going (2-8) in 2023. "I still think about it every day...really coming together in the offseason and being able to go (10-0) was the year of my life," said Gingrich. The Scouts rallied from a 21-3 deficit to beat Cocalico 24-21 for the Section 3 championship in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. Gingrich had three TD passes in that thrilling victory. He was named the Outstanding Back of the Year in Section 3. Conrad Weiser fell to eventual state champion Bishop McDevitt in the District 3-5A quarterfinals. The transfer portal has made the recruiting process more difficult for high school football players including Gingrich. His advice to other athletes is be patient and persistent. "Just keep reaching out to coaches. If coaches don't answer the first time, reach out again," he stressed. Gingrich chose Bloomsburg over Kutztown University because of his projected career path. He wants to study physical therapy and athletic training. Gingrich knows that the PSAC features a high level of football. "I'm super excited. I never really thought I'd be in the PSAC. Being able to be there is gonna be a dream," he replied.
