Most of what I've heard about tape repair has been tape like you mentioned or using tape to hold the fabric in place while you seal it up on the other side with some sort of silicone or super glue or a cloth patch depending on the material the tent is made out of.

For the dog food I dunno how wooded the area near you is but I know camping old camping advice was to tie up the food on a rope and toss it over a tree and tie the rope around the base of the tree to keep it safe/out of the tent as well.

I know my friend used to look up videos on great depression era cooking when he went through a rough patch himself, not the greatest advice or lead but maybe it can help? I'll be prayin for ya man
