Nikon FE + Kodak Gold - This is Why I Love Film Photography
Nikon FE & Kodak Gold - This Is Why I Love Film Photography. Join me on a few days in the countryside with the Nikon FE and some 35mm Kodak Gold. As always with film photography I ran into a couple of issues which I chat about and hopefully whether you are new to film photography or an experienced photographer you might learn something from it. Or even better give me some advice haha I must say I do love using this camera and the Nikkor 50mm F1.8 is such a great vintage lens that works pretty perfectly for my style of film photography.

DO THIS Before Printing - Square Format Film Photography Print - In this video I wanted to find out how a 120 (Medium Format) film photo would turn out if I printed it on fine art paper. I wanted to know if there would much difference between it and the 35mm film photo I printed previously. How much more detail and sharpness would there be? How would the colours look? etc etc. I am sure many of...
The MISTAKES of Square Format Film Photography

I have been using my 6x6 Yashica Mat film camera for a few years now and I have made quite a few mistakes. I love square format but it is quite a bit different than other formats I think, certain things don't work as well and I don't think there is as much room for error. There are a few mistakes I have made over the past year that I wanted to chat about and hopefully help you avoid. I am still...

The SECRET To Becoming A Better Photographer
Hey man, beautiful video. I know you put the link to where you get the music from, but do you know the exact track you used?
I recently got back into film with the FM cameras and then tripped and fell and accidentally purchased two FM3As. It was crazy how that happened. I still need some good vintage lenses but usually use the Voightlander Ultron 40 f2 and it’s a great lens to pair with these bodies.
😂 Love it. It is kind of strange because how seems to happen to many people haha Yes I have heard great things about those Voightlander lenses and I actually would love to get a different lens for the FE to mix things up a little. Cheers for the recommendation 👍
My favorite was the spiderwebs, I tend to photograph small details myself and I'm drawn to naturally occurring shapes.
Thanks and yeah I do really like those shots too. It's nice to mix things up isnt it. Adds something a little different to a collection of photos I think.
I would say the photo you took a few moments later, where the light is a tad different. I get what you say, regarding the wind turbine, however, both images are great. My personal favourite from this video, is the Spider Webb's on the gate. Nice shots throughout.
Yeah I think if I had of waited a little longer and got that almost blue hour pinky gradient in the sky it would have been really nice actually. Thanks though appreciate it. I do love how those turned out too it was cool to photography a few more detailed shots. Cheers again!
Why exactly can’t I crop a square to 16:9?
Insipiring frames!! keep shooting film
Thanks very much appreciate that. ✌🏼
Are you a sunrise or sunset kind of photographer? 🌄
24/7
@@tonyhayes9827 Haha Fully committed I like it.
Love the FE but the viewfinder on the FE2 is brilliant!
I actually haven't tried the viewfinder on an FE2. Is it just brighter or does it have a different focusing glass?
@@MacnTeensVisuals bit of both!
I’ve just bought a yashicamat 124g, I’ve heard you can get the ground glass replaced with a split field prism to help with focusing.
Love to hear it Donna, hope you're enjoying it. Yes I have seen that and have been tempted to change mine actually but haven't bothered yet lol
So the X-T30 ii the same as X-T32 ?
Bạn quay bằng màu velvia phải không?
Hey there! No this is all shot using the Astia Soft film simulation 👍
@@MacnTeensVisuals các bạn quay video rất chuyên nghiệp
@@kemvtv916 Thanks very much we appreciate it. Do you have an X-T30?
@@MacnTeensVisuals yes i watched your video i bought xt30
@@kemvtv916 Oh really that's cool. Well we hope you are enjoying it, great choice :)
Pushing it better or not?
Honestly I never tried it so I don't really know. A little bit more contrast would have been nice for some shots so maybe pushing would look nice but at the same time it is easy to add a little contrast in post.
Great tips. Prints are fab
Thanks very much, love how it turned out.
Great video. And I also have to say that your videoquality on this video is top notch!
Hey there & thanks appreciate that and glad you liked the video. Hope it was helpful in some way ✌
Is this mark 2?
No this is the original X-T30 but it's literally the same camera minus a few film simulations 👍
I got that lens last month. It's holding up pretty well for me. I've kept it on the camera a lot longer than I thought I would. Before that, I'd been using almost solely the 35mm f1.4, so this gave me a slightly different arrangement. It turned out well for me.
Nice one Chris. Yeah I am the same I love the 35mm but it is nice to change things up with a longer focal length from time to time and the images turned out pretty nice too.
My first day with mamiya c3 and this was definitely on my mind
Haha well hopefully this helps. Enjoy the new camera ✌
I really love the phone booth photo. May I ask what lens did you use on your Nikon FE
Thanks appreciate that, it's probably my favorite too. I used the 50mm F1.8 for these shots. 👍
@@MacnTeensVisuals Thank you, I just bought the FE with a 50mm 1.4 and really enjoying it.
@@phuocdoann Great choice and glad to hear you're enjoying it. I never really shoot anything under F5.6 with my lens I find it's the best for overall sharpness and getting enough in focus 👍
All came out great but the shaking head is was awesome
Thanks appreciate it. It was a fun one to shoot.
Can only agree; love that tree photo and the portrait of you looks just amazing imo! Just gonna test my first Kentmere 400 roll in a Bessa R. Love your style and videos. What ISO did you shoot this at? Box speed 400? Any tips for developing?
Hey there & thanks appreciate that, glad you like them. We just shot this at box speed 👍 When it comes to developing we sent it to a lab so can't help you much there lol Enjoy though ✌
Lovely
Thanks very much :)
Is there a difference in color rendering between xt3 and xt5?
Hey! Tbh I don't actually know. I would imagine things probably look pretty similar but it is a different sensor so not sure. The X-T3 is great and I imagine the X-T5 is too lol
nice ❤
Thanks very much :)
Hi, did you use tripod to stabilize the shots or did you stabilize it in post? Thank you ❤
Hey! Some of the shots were handheld and some using a tripod. For the handheld shots I used warp stabliser in post 👍
Some nice tips, thanks!
Thanks James appreciate it ✌
Hey what cable and mic should I get for audio for xt 30ii.And I heard that xt30ii doesn't support mic without battery,is it true.?
Hey! We have been using the Rode Video Micro since we got the camera and it's been great, doesn't have a power button so when it's plugged in its always on, so you never forget lol Not sure what you mean about the battery but the X-T30 does need a mix axulliary adapter because it has a 2.5mm aux slot instead of 3.5mm 👍 Here is the link (It's our Amazon affiliate link btw) - amzn.to/3khi9cB
can you share the setting of your camera? i also have xt30 but the footage not sharp and hard to color grading
Hey there, I actually made a video about the settings I use quite a while back but everything is pretty much still the same. Here is the video, hope it helps 👍 ua-cam.com/video/m9FRfI5YpxI/v-deo.html
the actual video is breathtaking... almost more than the beautiful photos. The yellow green grass, red-white dress, yellow trees, clear sky. Looks almost fake it's so pretty.
Hey there & thanks very much we appreciate that, glad you like it :)
Where do you like to get your prints made?
I used The Print Space for the last few prints and they turned out great 👍
Best couple's ❤
Hey there, we appreciate the support 😀✌
I like the features on this lens, but I saw ttartisan seems to offer similar specs at a lower price. Has anyone compared the two?
I have also heard good things about the TTartisan version but I have not tried it myself. There are a couple of comparison videos though I think.
beautiful shots! The bench with the mountain in the background is my favorite. Despite the focus issue, the lens looks super clean and sharp! I have a yashica mat 124 and the lens is a bit foggy. It still looks cool but yours look very clean!
Thanks very much appreciate it, that's my favourite too actually. Yeah I have changed a few things with how I focus etc since then and the images look soo much better now. The lens is great and super sharp. I did see when researching these cameras that a lot of them do have mold on the inside of the lens glass, you can check by opening the back obviously without film and then holding the shutter open on bulb mode. You maybe already know this but just in case you don't haha
Wow, this is amazing. I knew the higher level printing was impressive but I've never really seen these steps before! I just do my edits in Lightroom and print my photos via Shutterfly.... 😔
Hey man & thanks! It definitely takes a bit more preparation but the final prints do turn out great. You can certainly still get decent results from the more basic quick print places but for more reliable results on premium paper it's hard to beat the higher end print labs lol
Have you printed your own photos? 📷
nice photos, id love to try square format if i can get my hands on a minolta autocord
It is a really nice aspect ratio to use, I love it.
Great video! The Fujifilm Kit lens is truly incredible, and this video has inspired me to start using it again on my XT3 😊
Thanks and love to hear it. It is a great lens especially for filmmaking 👌
Do the camera has a stabilizer on it?
No the camera does not have IBIS but the lens has stabilisation 👍
Yep Fujifilm make the best cameras out there, this proves it.
Haha thanks appreciate it. We do love using them :)
Wind screen indoor 😂
Loved the horse image: the barbed wire fence is perfect
Thanks Tim appreciate it. I do love how it turned out :)
This lens looks good. Have you tried the TTArtisan 56mm/f1.8? Any suggestions on which one I should buy?
It is a pretty solid performer for the price. Unfortunately I have not tried the TTArtisan version yet but I have heard good things about it too actually.
Thank you you answered my question. It's got apature preview, like my Nikon F80, I was wondering because I am waiting on my FE coming from ebay, I hope it all works. I love the look always have so I bought a Nikon Zfc so now I have to have one. By the way practice using the apature preview, you will know exactly what's in focus and what is not, trust me your photography will be even better
Glad we could help haha Hope everything is working smoothly with your new camera. I have kind of got used to knowing what aperture I need for certain scenarios now, so I never really use aperture preview but I'm sure it's helpful at times. 👍
very nice story and places! Which lens did you film the trip on? And did you use any film simulation for filming or LUTs in post? TY
Thanks very much Riccardo! We used the XF18-55mm for filming everything and we always use the Astia soft film simulation with some tweaks in post 👍
@@MacnTeensVisuals thank you! I really appreciate it. If you come to italy let me know, we should hang out together
Great advice, thank you!
Hope it helps, cheers ✌
Great content! Keep it up!
Thanks very much appreciate that ✌
I need a 50/56, dont know which one to take (56 f1.2 mk I, 50 f2, third part one...). Can't choose. Thanks for the review 👍
I would probably go with a 50mm because you can always crop in a little if needed. 👍
my computer can't handle 10bit 400mbps footage 😮💨 which one should I sacrifice? Recording in 8bit or 200mbps?
Definitely drop down to 8-Bit and just use the 200mb files honestly they are great and it's what we use 99% of the time for our videos 👍
I found and XT3 + battery grip (with og box, even the flash) and an XT4 in a similar condition for about 60% more expensive. I've thought about it many times, the advantages over the XT3 are miniscule when I 'put a score' on them. The battery life doesn't matter because where I am, the price of the NPW235 is literally twice the price of an NPW126s, which is about the same ratio of it's capacity. The flip screen isn't a must, and I do like the screen being around the camera body, I don't have a camera yet but I took photos with my phone that would work well with the vertical and horizontal flip of the screen. And for the most part I will be behind the camera. Mic input directly on the body is nice, and the removable port door is nice for rigging. (Never had IBIS before, and usually the lenses stabilization should be good enough, and when there is none, the wide aperture and fast shutter speed should overcome it) Overall, my opinions match yours. :)
Cheers for sharing and I totally agree the differences with most newer cameras now is minuscule and really only makes a difference to people who use them professionally and really benefit from the latest features. Which is very few people i'd imagine. If you don't need the features there is no point paying a lot more for the latest camera.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
😃✌
I have an Yashica LM, which is an older TLR from the 50's, and has a cocking leaver detached from winding mechanism. SO after each shot I'll ALWAYS wind the camera for the next shot, and cock the shutter just before taking a photo, without the fear of screwing the focus or moving the camera...
That is actually a really handy feature to be fair. It's just too easy to accidentally press the shutter on mine especially if you put it back into the camera bag after winding the mechanism.
@@MacnTeensVisuals If I remember correctly, later models, like Mat 124G, have a lock mechanism in form of a ring around the shutter button. Yours doesn't? 🤔
