Viltrox 35mm F1.7 - Another Great BUDGET Fuji Lens?
Big thanks to the folks over at Viltrox for sending over this lens to try out and for giving us a discount code to share with you all.
15% OFF Viltrox 35mm F1.7 until 30th December - geni.us/MacnTeensVisuals35XF
Viltrox 35mm f1.7 - Another Great Budget Fuji Lens? - This week we tried out the 35mm F1.7 lens from Viltrox. As you may have seen in a previous video I tried out the 56mm from Viltrox which was pretty impressive for the price. I'm a big fan of 35mm on the Fuji system so it was nice to try this one out and see what it can do. This lens sells for $179/£165 which for a new lens with an F1.7 aperture is very cheap. Hopefully this is helpful to any of you who are interested in some alternative lens brands on a budget.

The £50 Film Camera You Should BUY! - Kodak Ektar H35 - I'm finally getting around to sharing my thoughts on this quite new (Actually like a year or two old now) little half frame film camera from Kodak. Honestly I didn't think I would ever want a half frame film camera but after seeing some results my friend got with his and just how fun it was to carry around I decided to get one for myself. ...

I have been using my 6x6 Yashica Mat film camera for a few years now and I have made quite a few mistakes. I love square format but it is quite a bit different than other formats I think, certain things don't work as well and I don't think there is as much room for error. There are a few mistakes I have made over the past year that I wanted to chat about and hopefully help you avoid. I am still...

Nikon FE - Best Budget 35mm SLR Film Camera?
I bought the xt30 but I feel that my photos come out grainy compared to the xt30ii :( I don't know what to do
The X-T30 & X-T30ii have the exact same sensor so the files will be exactly the same. Are you shooting in RAW or JPEG, if it's JPEG check that grain has not been added to the film simulation. And this one may sound a bit silly but are you shooting at the same ISO on both? lol
I think it's worth it!
It's certainly a fun little camera to capture memories. A bit on the pricey side though lol
have you tried the 25 mm of TTartisan ?
I have not but I will be trying a lens from them very soon which should be interesting.
Don't the metal carabinas scratch the body though?
Great question, there is definitely a risk of this. I had the little scratch protector things on but stopped using the carabine clips for now as it did touch the top corner a few times. Something to be careful of.
Thanks for sharing your experience with F-Log. If recording indoors, should I overexpose with the key light and other lights since you mentioned that F-Log performs best when overexposed?
Hope it was at least a little helpful haha I have only used it in natural light but yes I would try it a stop overexposed and see how it turns out. In a studio setup the darker areas might be quite dark and noisy so you may have to to a little trial and error to see what works best for your location.
This video is super helpful-Viltrox looks great for the price. Curious if you’ve tested the TTArtisan 35mm f1.8 Mark II? It’s got a metal body, and I love the idea of something more compact.
Cheers Brandon glad to hear that. Overall if definitely performed pretty well now. I actually have not tried the TTArtisan version but I will be trying a different focal length lens from them quite soon which will give me an idea of the quality etc. I have heard good things about a few of there lenses though.
So is it not as good as 35mm f2 xc version? Both are having very similar price
No I mean it's probably not just as sharp as the XF 35mm F2, I am not sure about the XC version.
@MacnTeensVisuals ok, I think optical quality of xc version is the same as non xc... Anyway thanks.. Enjoying your videos!!
@@TravelMap I haven't tried any XC lenses just yet but if they have the same image quality as the more expensive XF versions then I think I should haha Appreciate the support, glad to hear you're enjoying the vids 🙂
@@MacnTeensVisuals I also haven't used 35mm f2 XC but many other reviewers have already confirmed optical quality is the same with non XC but with plastic housing with no weather sealing
I really love photography with fuji, but apparently after having the camera, I use it many times for video also.. so yaa your tips are very helpful, thank you so much
Hey there & thanks very much that's great to hear. It really is a great little camera for both photo and video so enjoy :)
Great pictures. The Nikon SLR is a classic. would you make a video about how you edit the scans?
Thanks very much appreciate that, it is a lovely camera to use. I have made a video editing my medium format film scans but yeah I might do one editing 35mm photos at some point soon 👍
Thanks for the comparison, are you able to confirm if the original xt30 received the newer film simulations in a firmware update?
Hey there! Hope it was helpful. I actually haven't updated the X-T30 in a while but the last update did not have the new film sims.
Does the ii Store white balance on the custom presets? The original x-t30 does not, which is very annoying if you have multiple JPEG recipes saved
Honestly I do not know, I pretty much always shoot RAW so I have not messed around too much with the recipes tbh.
I actually couldn't get past the first minute (TOD 0:51). "Filim"
Accents are a wonderful thing
I used to shoot a lot on square format, mostly a Mamiya C220. But I didn't take square pictures. I'd crop it to either portrait or landscape format, according to taste - sometimes trying both from the same negative. Luckily the Mamiya had a separate shutter-cocking mechanism so it was fine to wind on after taking a shot, then just cock the shutter when actually intending to take a picture. Occasionally after walking around with the shutter cocked for a few minutes, if no interesting scene presented itself, I'd cover the lens with the lens cap, then release the shutter. That meant I still had that blank piece of film ready to use another time. (There was supposed to be an idiot-proof mechanism to prevent multiple exposures on the same frame but that caused as many problems as it solved so tended to disable it).
What u think about the xf 35mm f2 lens by the way the video is 🔥
Hey there! Absolutely love the XF 35mm F2 it's my current go to lens, super sharp and really well made, highly recommend. Thanks very much btw appreciate that 😀 Happy New Year!
I have used one of those SONY cameras. It produced great colors. Maybe it was a CCD sensor. Nice images all.
Thanks appreciate it. No longer have it but it was a great camera tbf.
Great idea to keep a jpeg up on the screen as a point of reference when editing raw images. It is easy to go overboard when editing.
Cheers, thought it would make a nice comparison. Totally agree it's very easy to over do it.
Nice. I love the look of film photography. Digital tends to look too detailed and with any processing - like looking through a sheet of tinted plastic. Try the Yashica 120 twin lens reflex camera if you haven’t already. I think it would work well with the pictures you make.
Yeah me too it just has a great look when you get it right. I do love digital too though but some edits can look terrible 😂 I actually have a Yashica Mat TLR and love it, need to get it out again very soon.
What is your favorite in camera film simulation for outdoor and images of people? I just found you channel - great content. I especially like the outdoor imagery and outdoor portraits. Your color is very nice - saturated color but not overdone.
Honestly I shoot RAW 99% of the time but I do really like the Astia Soft film sim for video. Thanks very much appreciate the support and glad you like the edits. It really is a fine line between getting it right and over doing the colours haha
Did you use the film emulation or color graded the videos? Looks beautiful
I use the Astia soft film sim and then make a few adjustments in post. Thanks appreciate it, love how it turned out myself 😀
I was waiting for a review like this. i have the 35mm f2 which is gettin pretty old and with all the good reviews online of the viltrox, i was wondering if it was worth it still even if i have the f2. I think ill hold off, the benefits of an aperture ring, weather sealing and as u stated better sharpness, i can probably hold off for now. Thanks.
Hey there! Honestly I am not sure how they compare when it comes to focus speed etc but the 35mm F2 obviously has some benefits with build quality and weather resistance as you mentioned. It also has better performance with vignetting etc from what I can see. For the price though the Viltrox seems like a nice option.
hi sorry i'm just got my xe-3 recently, i have a question how do I play / preview the captured videos i have in my camera?
Hey there, I mean I assume it' just the same as other Fuji's just press the button that looks like a little play icon and then press down on the d-pad/joystick to play 👍
I purchased this lens to use on my Fuji, primarily for street / documentary photography. I also it discovered is was quite apt for portrait as well. Considering, the high cost of Fuji Lenses, the Viltrox is a great lens for the price. Enjoyed your video content and photography. All the best for 2025.✌Peace.
Totally agree I look forward to trying it out more and it definitely works nicely for portraits 👍 Thanks very much appreciate that, Happy Holidays and New Year to you too ✌
Hi. Is the petal lens fine to use with a 35mm apsc lens
As far as I know yes, I would like to get one of those lens hoods myself. Love how they look.
Was wondering if this would pair well with my XE1. Thanks for the video
Hope it was helpful. It is a bit bigger than the Fuji 35mm but it is light 👍
Would this be a lens you would consider for your own kit? 📷
Love your work, I’m actually waiting for my X-T30, so excited !
Thanks very much appreciate it. Great choice, enjoy!
...In 1975 I shot a promo film for the Irish Board of Tourism in conjunction with Air Canada...The film was 16mm and all still shots were 35mm , which was required for television at the time.....I always wanted to return and do a medium format study for myself with a Bronica S2A...As well, my roots are in Tallanstown , Louth ( Armagh Archdiocese ) ...I was never able to return....I also owned a Yashica 635 in the 1970's....The landscapes take me back , for sure , and I can still see my wife and I touring in our old TR3A doing a photo journey while enjoying ourselves immensely...So sorry to ramble on , but at 78 I think I'm allowed...........John, (west coast, Can.)
Deciding between these two lenses for my a6700. The Viltrox has the bigger aperture, but is it worth the extra cost when TTArtisan performs just as well? Especially if the bokeh is smooth on both.
Honestly I haven't tried the TTartisan version so I couldn't say. If the TTartisan has an aperture ring that might be something to keep in mind. The Viltrox version is a really nice lens for the price though is all I could say 👍
The photo of the horse is tremendous. Yes, a wooden fence might have given it a more rustic feel, but the wire fence with remnants of foliage sets the scene nicely, and the line of it really works for the composition.
Thanks very much appreciate that. Yeah I agree, I do still really like how it turned out even with the wire fence. The light was just super nice too.
Did you shot in auto? :)
Yes I pretty much always have the camera set to aperture priority 👍 The light meter has worked pretty accurately 95% of the time i'd say.
With the M-12 motordrive, its a brick yet the grip then is great
Yeah without the grip it feels a little sketchy to hold without a wrist strap but the grip really improves things 👍
Brah gotta be Irish. Sounds like my bro from Belfast.
I am indeed Irish, did the hoodie give it away 🤣
cool vibe and lovely images, thanks for sharing!
Cheers appreciate that :)
That's a half frame?? Where do I get one?
It is indeed. I mean most camera shops would have them now i'd imagine 👍
I'm not a fan of the look these types of camera give. I'd sooner use the watch list feature on eBay and wait around for a cheap deal on something like the Canon Demi EE17, if I was into the idea of half frame. Alternatively just go around the charity shops and pick up something with a zoom from the big manufactures for under £25 and spend the other £25 on cheap film like 4 rolls of Kentmere 400.
I don't disagree with you at all and I considered doing the same thing. I would still like to go around charity shops and grab a few fun little cameras like this. The main reason I think this one is still a good idea is because it's a cheapish plastic camera that you don't care about really. It has no features to get in the way and if you lose it it's not the end of the world. Normally I would prefer a nice vintage camera with better quality but for nights out etc I think this little thing is perfect.
With film being so expensive, I would not want to waste a roll in this. However, interesting video nonetheless.
I totally get that tbh, I just find it makes me want to take more photos when with family and friends etc so I don't mind the cost. Especially with the 72 photos. Thanks though appreciate it.
@@MacnTeensVisuals Fair point
crappiest photos i've ever seen have come from this camera. I took my butt down to the camera store and bought a Olympus Pen S instead with full manual controls, zone focusing, and a nice sharp lens. Kodak should be prosecuted for selling this for $50.00.
Oh there is no doubt you can take some terrible photos and get some terrible results with this camera at times. I certainly wouldn't recommend it if you want the best final results. I like the look of those little Olympus Pen cameras but they aren't really just a point and shoot because of the features they have and that was kind of my point with this one. There are probably better options out there with sharper lenses etc but If I buy a nice vintage camera I don't want to lose it on a night out for example 😂
LOVE THIS VIDEO also in love with this Camera been using it for a couple of months
Hey there & thanks very much :) Glad to hear you're enjoying the camera, it's nice to just take photos and not worry about too much about things isn't it haha
Hello, can I use my custom recipes I use for photos on video on XT30ii? I cant seem to find the custom recipes when I toggle to video mode
That's a good question and honestly we haven't tried it. We use Astia soft for video and shoot RAW for photos 🤔
Would any of you guys buy this little camera?
@MacnTeensVisuals Jumping back into film this year I bought the H35(N) primarily so I wouldn't immediately go off the Pentax 17 deep end. Been a lot of fun and getting some occasional stunners esp with Ultramax 400.
@@borispresley Hey Boris, love to hear that. I do want to give Ultramax a try in this little camera just haven't got around to it yet. The Pentax 17 just seems way to expensive for what it is I think.
actually no. whoever is interested in half frame cheap camera should at least get the H34N
Well the H35n does have some extra features which some people might like but with a camera like this I think the less features the better. Nothing else to think about but point and snap 👍
Great work.
Cheers Tony appreciate man :)

Just got my Yashica-C a couple days ago. Sad that I can't find that much videos of the Yashica-C in youtube, unlike the other Yashica's
Nice one enjoy! Yeah some cameras just aren't as popular especially when there are quite a few variations of those Yashicas. They are all very similar though really aren't they?
I was thinking of upgrading my XT30 for video, now I know I don't need to
Glad to hear it. It's a great little camera especially for video ✌
Absolutely loved this! Thank you and keep that energy going. Can't remember when was the last time I found myself smiling watching some tips and tricks. You guys rock! Long live the Zeeeebras!
Hey & thanks very much we really appreciate that, glad you enjoyed it and hopefully there was some helpful stuff in there haha Got to love those Zeeeeebras 😂
Sorry if this is a silly question as I am only starting in my filmmaking journey. With this camera, it says it has a recording time set at 15 minutes in HD. Does that mean I can film multiple 15 minute videos in one outing with the camera or is it I can only film up to 15 minutes of video overall and I'll have to transfer the video/videos off the camera before I can film more? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!
Hey there! Yes you can film for 15 minutes multiple times you just need to hit record again. The number of times obviously depends on how much memory your memory card has. Great camera choice by the way and enjoy 😀
Hi
Hey there ✌
