Completed the same swap on mine last year with a later 1mzfe. I also relocated the fuse box and coolant overflow into the boot/trunk!!
is it a lot cheaper than the 2grfe swap?
I’m not really sure what that swap cost. I know when my sister looked into it to have it just professionally done. It was gonna be around 10 grand I think all in with the purchase of the motor which we just bought a entire car probably 4 to 5 grand but that’s with me doing all the work and no labor charge
@@joshlogan5233 it's a 6k swap if you do it your self.
it was for me yes but i also have years of doing this kind of work and a lot of tools
Thank you
GOOD JOB
Hi Josh I put a 1MZ-FE into the rear of my Metro using the MR2 running gear and chassis. Using the original rx 300 intake box, question I have is all the carbon/breather tubes wether I have them too many or even in the right place. Currently using both rx 300 canister and the MR2, any thoughts to share. PS I take my hat off to you for managing to put the engine in from the top
sorry i not sure which box your talking about air filter box or the carbon canster if its the carbon use the one for the engine your are using is a good starting point
i just... know... knuckles get bruised working on that motor in that tiny compartment xD
Shitty video
Those seats are so damn mint 🫣
Thank you for the helpful video. I would say though, from what i know it is not common to have a CP3 pump failure at such low miles. Much of the info I have seen leans towatds them lasting a long time. My original has 290,000 miles and is still going. However i have been running an air dog lift pump for the past 100,000 miles. As someone else did mention in this comment section, it is good to run a lift pump on these trucks even if they are stock. It keeps the CP3 and injectors happy. Edit: also running a good fuel additive at every fill up for cleaning and system lubrication. I use hotshot diesel, "everyday diesel treatment".
You don't have to time the pump ? Just install no marks ?
No, it’s just a high-pressure pump. The one for mine had no timing marks or anything that needed to be lined up for timing purposes manual injection requires timing. These have electronic injectors, Bosch style computer controls when they inject the fuel.
wow
Will be doing this soon to my MR2. Great video! Thanks!
I like the music from the era z car era z32
Can we use the stock mr2 flywheel for the swap????
Nope Hass to be onethat is been modified for the crank
Woodsport is the one I used for this car
Did you find out why the 8 plug got fouled so bad to begin with? I understand cleaning it will clear the misfire issue, but isn’t that only temporary until it fouls up again?
That vehicle actually had two bad direct injectors that needed to be replaced
Fantastic vid, im part way along the same swap just saving up for the woodsports kit, any chance of a short vid of how it sounds on the road? Most 1mz mr2 swaps here on youtube seem to be the non vvti engine which sounds quite different!
Yeah, I can try to do that sometime in the near future
Hmmm
Its PAUL WOODS from Woodsport in the UK. He is extremely Knowledgeable and helpful.
Thanks that is him at time of the video I had a hard time remembering and yes he was very helpful
This is automatic transmission? Do the manual transmissions have the same tcm problem?
No they should not do to the fact that they lack the TCM controller
thanks for the straight forward vid man, this is my second TL and on this one I'm doing coilovers, I had done it before some years ago so just needed to remember, upon taking my bottom one out that middle bolt for it was gone and I also discovered there's some sort of water leaking there making the bottom part super disgusting
I hope you find that leak if you do post it under your comment
@@joshlogan5233 I ended up finding it, it’s the rear glass itself, the seals are messed up causing to leak itself, to make it worse whoever had this car before put a small funnel taped up so whenever it overflowed it would leak all over, mainly inside the trunk but also where the rear seats were
Id love to do this swap further down the line to my mr2, would you mind doing a cost breakdown of the entire swap? Sounds amazing!
I’m working on it see what I can come up with
Decent video, My '05 LLY has made it to 741,000 miles on the original CP3 and still going. I did the injectors (with new ones) about 610k but I am on the second FPR and have 2 spares. Anything in the valley is tough to get to.
Thanks for that little tidbit of information. I would love to know that I don’t have to do my CP three every 120 it’s nice to hear that one made it and it’s still going. If you don’t mind me asking what was the reason you needed to do the regulator
@@joshlogan5233 the regulator develops a sticky spot (the plunger inside moves constantly) so at idle the pressure can shoot from 4k to above 6k which causes the engine to surge. Mostly annoying at first but I havenheard of others having to hold the brakes hard to keep still at a light. I replaced it with a cheaper one and it worked fine, now after several years it has a random slight surge when cold... but for the savings I have 2 extra on hand. They are either really, really good copies of Bosch regulators or real ones wholesale. I do add a bit of 2 stroke oil and injector cleaner every several months. The fuel lines did have a decent amount of buildup inside after 610k miles so the injector cleaner is a good thing regularly.
@@joshlogan5233 By the way, it is impossible to diagnose the fuel pump or injectors with a bad regulator, it will throw off balance rates and other tests. Asmper the oem manual, you must first establish a steady fuel pressure.
Thanks for the info on that I will keep a look out for that
I just had someone do this with my car and the wiring harness looks like spaghetti in a bowl. I am so tempted to drop the engine and redo the harness myself.
Yeah, I get it. That’s why I spent the money and had him combined the two harnesses together with his experience. It was well worth the money.
Hello. Where did u buy both ur injectors and injection pump
I bought brand new Bosch injectors, and a Bosch pump. Also brand new from my local AutoZone. I have a commercial account with them and they were able to get me the new updated injectors.
I never would have found those bolts!!!!!!!! Thanks.
What ECM do I order
It would be a TCM, not an ECM. Ecm is for your engine management not your transmission management.
Took my dumbass awhile but if anyone cant find that 10mil under the seat you can find it between the seam of the upper and lower seat instead of going for it below. Also, you must tilt the rachet up or youll strip the bolt, and you should probably use an extension lol
Thanks. For the great advice it all helps
Thank you for not playing music while you talk!
👍
So basically what I've gathered from this video is either I spend from dawn till dusk doing the work myself praying to God I don't screw it up (I prob will). Or, I spend equal amounts in labor as in parts to pay someone else to tackle this headache? 😂😂
That is a really eloquent way to put it. Hopefully people read this comment.
Yup, pretty well sums up everything under the hood on these, and most vehicles these days. I’ve done my water pump, injectors, glow plugs, FPR…which is when I SHOULD have done the CP3 with my mileage, and now I’ve done my CP3 also. I just get all the known needed parts and tools gathered up and set aside a cpl days so I don’t have to rush and in case something goes sideways I’ll have time to address it. I’ve save THOUSANDS in labor costs. GM wanted 7500.00 to do injectors, I bought brand new, updated Bosch ones a,d a complete kit to install from Injectors Direct for 2500.00. That’s a savings of 5K right there! I did the passenger side over a weekend, that’s all my back can take at my age, drove for a week, then did the drivers side, which was more involved, but I was more confident now, 2 more days over a weekend and it’s been perfect. So yeah, spend time or spend money, at least DIY you know what was actually done and how well.
Hey josh, wanna come help me do mine LMAO
That’s why I made the video cause I know it’s just easier now, but also confusing enough to be one of those ones where you’re like. I don’t know if I should do this or not. It’s not really as bad but that’s why the videos out there.
hi mate I have missfire down the whole bank 2, 5,6,7,8 all showing missfrire, I swapped out spark plugs, but to no effect, few weeks back it was only 5.7 misfiring, the coils look ok, did this after the coil change not come back as either intermittent or complete missfire ? I have a intake runner code to saying stuck open but its on bank 1 so I doubt that is the issue
Misfire is a slowing of the crank speed seen by cam and crank sensor plugs help do you smell unburnt fuel out the exhaust? Also check for power at coils
I have purchased one recently it starts up misfires then turns off
What codes are you getting anything in particular or have you already figured out the issue?
Hi. I did relocated tcm as you recommended last year and I must say did fixed tcm acting up. This year on first worm day 27'C started again. Worst thing is by the time car will cool down and I will take it to tech codes are gone and no tech can tell what the problem is.
Check for historic codes or maybe generic OB D2 might keep a record of them. Other option is stop by local auto parts while the code is on and have them pull the codes for you really quickly it’s normally free.

Had this happen to me this week on my 09. All the tires including spare had proper inflation. I tried to reset it with disconnecting the battery but it illuminated immediately open restart. Took it to Discount Tire direct where I bought the tires and they found one sensor was dead and one was weak. When they pulled in the bay they checked again and a different tire stopped reading. Ended up replacing all 4 sensors (not the spare since that would have required a new tire due to being the original spare) and of course now the light is off since they had the fancy scan tool. Unsure if there's a way to do it without having a scan tool.
Damn brother. You made that look easy.
One of the only videos I've seen the actual tear down most just show replacing the belt wich doesn't include the tear down especially for a first time timing belt job I'm not new just never done timing belt so this video will help very much thank you for posting this I'll be doing 05 Acura mdx 3.5 wish me luck lol 😆 😂
Does this also work on a 2010 Acura RL, the seat configuration is similar?
I puked and passed out. 😢 thought I could handle it. Reported for violence and abuse.
For me it has to be a 2002 Acura tl
Hi my friend ware you are
East coast usa
It fails today at 170000 miles
Thanks brotha
How many miles was on the original pump?
110,000 which, based on some research I did was about the average life of them, unfortunately
I am just going to wait until it fails and hope there is still a replacement part available. 180k no problems yet
I really appreciate having someone show this off. Rescued an Accord about a year ago, this sounds well worth the money.
Thank you brother life saver
What rebuild kit did you use?
Got it from ecs tuning
SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ...
You never show the actual removal of pump.
My apologies once remove the retaining bolts it comes out pretty easy the hard part is getting to all of them
