What did you use for a motor and speed control?
I like the idea but without a speed control how would you control the temp of brass when you switch from .223 rem to 300 Weatherby magnum? Thanks
@@Hunter4Life. all torches I have seen have a valve to adjust fuel flow to control heat or you could have different slotted cans for different cases. Spaces between slots control exposure to heat, etc. just a couple of ways to control heat
He was wrong. The first step is to hit your thumb. Otherwise, great video.
I haven’t seen printer paper like that for a looong time. Picked up 8lb of Midwest powder equivalent to TAC. Was a great deal.
What Grain Bullet are you using?
@@hunterjager9538 175 SMK
In 1965 I was taught to drop 10% from the maximum charge weight. The show looks good.
About 1 1/4” but you can adjust it depending on case size you work most often
How deep is the sidewall on the rotating drum?
Good video, maybe I have missed it but I don't believe that you stated what bullet or what weight that you were using. I had purchased an 8# keg pf SWPR a few years ago and now I am forced to turn to it and develop a new load due to the fact that I cannot find or afford a pound of varget. Thanks for the review.

I can't find it anywhere in the comments.. what bullet were you shooting here?

I have used tac with very good results, 175 smk, win brass, win SLR primer, 42.5 grains, O.A.L 2.850, crimped, shot from 24"varmit contour barrel savage 1/10. Tac is a little temp sensitive, I have taken the round let it sit in the sun and it spiked a bit. My preference is varget but I will use Tac, 1/2 inch 10 shot groups are possible at 100. And it can definitely get you shooting sub moa at 500. 2700 fps
I normally use target for my 69gr 223 loads. As of late it has been impossible to find a big jug and the 1lb cans are 57$ or so . Bought a 8 lb jug of tac for 295$ delivered. Tac meters better for me , won’t get to shoot it for a bit . Doesn’t have that varget smell I like
Great work. 👍
Thanks 👍 My first fabrication project
It’s quite the noticeable difference when reloading the brass and groups 😊
That's why I started reloading....to get better accuracy than store bought without buying match grade.
Good shooting , thank you for all the information.
Thanks. Hope it helps. Enjoy!
What did you make the drum out of/ diameter/ timeing , also just wondering what caliber is that particular cartridge in the video 8mm ?
the drum was just an old candy tin, nothing special. You can use metal bowls if they have flat sides and bottoms or large tin cans, anything with flat bottoms and flat sides. You will probably need to cut the sides to the necessary depth depending on your cartridge length. My cartridge was a 308. The diameter and number of slots can be changed depending on the rpm of your motor. just put a mark on whatever drum you select and time how long it takes to go 1 revolution.. I determined my slots by timing how long it took my brass to get to temperature, then used that time to calculate where and how many slots to put on my drum. Good Luck!
🎉damn cool!
My experience with Tac is its better suited for lighter bullets in 308win. 130gr Barnes ttsx for example sub moa groups & 3250fps in my mod70 22"barrel. And still 0.7 gr below max according to Barnes load data thanks for the vid
Like your video Sir, mount your scope anyway you like, i like my savage rifles as well as my other actions, your proof is on the target. Keep the videos coming !
Man, that Wisconsin accent! Strong.
Wisconsin??? West Tennessee originally.
:) good sport. My grandparents picked cotton right down in there. Long long ago. Harder times. You sound like family. Keep up the good work here sir it is refreshing and relaxing to me.
My grandfather was a gunner on Lady Lou and said he and another dove through a doorway as a plane hit to avoid it.
My dad worked in both forward turrets so they probably knew each other. The 2nd forward turret was the one the kamikaze hit.
Is that unburnt powder hitting the target about 1.5 seconds after hit? Sounds like something is going on there.
dirt is being kicked up by bullet behind the target. target is in front of a steep slope so dirt is only a couple of feet behind the target.
IMR 4320, I think, is the number of it. It's not to far off from varget. I got several bottles of varget I bought and not using. I bought it to use in my boys 243. They both don't hunt much. I have used Tac in my 204 ruger and 223 rem. It's hard finding the right powder. For my new 280 ackley improve. It's a 1@8 twist. So, I'm planning on trying Hornady ELD X 175 gr. And ELD M in 180 gr first thing.
I see you recently posted part 2 so I wanted to see part 1. Most definitely a great powder in 308. I'm getting 3200fps in a 24" 308 with 130 TTSX
I’m pushing a 175 gr SMK through a 20” barrel which would account for the speed difference. Thanks for watching.
@@southernexposure1205 Yes I saw you were using a much heavier bullet. I just wanted a light wt hunting bullet in my 308s
I have never found TAC to be anything close to match accuracy
Oh man I did. 130 TTSX, Winchester brass, 210 match primer, 50.0 gr TAC, first in a factory stainless Tikka 308, 3170fps, then modified that rifle, added a 24" #3 Brux 4 groove 10 twist, AG Composite stock, same load 3200fps 1/2 or less at 100. Built 2 more rifles with Defiance actions, #5 contour cut rifled Benchmark barrels, 24", McMillan stocks, TT triggers, tried that same ammo, again quarter minute to 5/8" also around 3200fps. Slays game easy to 500 yards
I have found SW Precision to be as accurate as Varget in my 6 Dasher with Berger 105 Hybrids. I'm now working up a load for 6BR as well.
I had a situation like this with h4895 and some honady sx beans tweaked my seating depth and came up with a load that shoots bug holes I thought I completely missed the paper my second shot then I opened up the hole with my third just for proof
Don’t trust your chrono trust your paper use the center load and tweak your oacl cardboard will lessen the tear out I load 1 hole groups for all my rifles with many different powders
This is coming from a guy who doesn’t even trust bubble levels plumbobs never lie
You may tweak the oacl and see if that tightens up your extreme spread
Technically, no a 5th shot won't, not by itself, but 4 or more groups of 3-5 (gun cooled down like you would expect it to be each time you go to the field) WILL make a difference in your assurance of accuracy. You said that flyer was you, but did you know that when you let off the trigger? Too many shooters take the blame for what's actually statistical noise. Hornady episodes 50 & 52 (entitled respectively "Your groups are/are still too small.") cover the truth about statistics in determining accuracy. The only thing small aggregate groups are truly valid for is weeding out bad loads or identifying other issues.
Thanks for watching!
The PRS guys have been using SW Precision for a number of years now. Usually, SD and ES are lower than with Varget. BTW; Those rings are entirely too high.
Thanks for watching.
Reloader 15 N40 They work . Try lapua brass , quality bullet .
Thanks for watching. I don’t disagree that I could probably get better results with Lapua brass and maybe Berger bullets but unfortunately neither are within my budget. I am not a competitive shooter and I don’t have any sponsors so like most other people, I try to do the best I can with the components I can reasonably afford. Thanks.
I used to pay 20 per pound for this powder, but thanks to u-tube videos it's 60 dollars a pound or over!!!
Sorry to hear that but it is a supply and demand issue. When powders start being hard to get prices go up. Government pressure to take away rights causes people to buy and hoard which causes shortages and more demand. Just wait if you think prices are high now.
There's a high volume of artillery and small arms propellant use driving the market right now. It's the exact same material composition, just larger, slower stuff in the cannon and mortar world.
Nice video. Consistent powder. I think that it helped with those longer bullets with good bearing surface.
Thanks for watching. Be sure to like and subscribe to help the UA-cam algorithm
No velocity readings, no standard deviation, no grouping by charge loads. Not a good sale pitch.

Seems like nice powder. Left is Left. Right is Right.
nice my range goes out to 720 yds.
Was buying this for 20 bucks a pound, now it's 60 to 70 bucks. That's how panic buying and hoarding drives the price gouging from the companies.
I came to love Shooters World powders years ago. Excellent performance and very low cost. In the early days, the biggest problem was load data. Availability is still an issue, as it seems that they only import it a few times a year. Unfortunately, the cost has skyrocketed, bringing it very close to the cost of more mainstream powders.
For load data, you can always contact them.
You can't have grouping with only one shot you could use any powder of any amount and it will still put a hole in the target, one shot tells you nothing.
Evidently you didn’t watch the entire video.
Maybe he didn't know what round Robin means.
Bullet weight and brand? you may have said somewhere in the middle I missed it.

Varget is always at the store I've never seen your powder.
I typically order it from Midwayusa or Powder Valley.
@@floridagunrat1625 about 3 years ago it was almost impossible to find or order Varget which is why I started testing alternatives
@southernexposure1205 Oh yeah, those were terrible times for getting any powder. Unfortunately, I think we're heading back into that kind of shortage here soon. Varget is a favorite of mine, and I would love to stock up, but Gee it is getting expensive!
